I got to use one of these old fast chippers when I worked a temp job for a tree cutting firm, and I will tell you, the last thing you want is for your cloths to get caught up in the branches or something. These old machines are much faster than the newer ones. It's amazing how you can take a small log and turn it into small chips in just seconds.
The golf course I used to work out had two of these old chippers. Never really had any issues with them other than replacing the belt. Both originally had the 318 Chrysler engines. One of them still has the original engine, but the other one blew up one day for no reason and we couldn’t find a 318 anywhere to replace it so we ended up swapping on a 4-71T Detroit diesel. We ended up having to do a lot of fabrication to make it work and create motor mounts to support the extra weight. But it works quite well and doesn’t quite suck as much fuel as the 318 but they are still both pretty thirsty engines but they get the job done.
My chuck n duck has a 383 in it and has no foldable hopper. I use it by myself around the farm. Have not been hurt yet. The most dangerous chipper I ever used was a Sears home chipper. It jammed up, broke in half and spun around on the ground while I ran away at full speed.
This is great..I got this same chipper I use it as a back up now and will never sell it .its got a 318 I. It and it a beast all day strong. I know I have owned it for 15 years now and it was my chipper for years tell I got a self feeder but I take it out if iam crazy busy and got two crews running around. Just hook it up and down the road. Love it
Started treeremoval in 1992 and bought a 12 inch drum made in 75, have another 1968 model 16inch aswell as 2 disc chippers.. THE beauty of this two old drum chipper... NEITHER HAD ONE WARNING LABEL ....II went and made one for each machine about 5 years ago with my lazer printer.... "WARNING: If you are an idiot stay back 300 feet when this machine is on, 50 feet if machine is off" If you want the REAL history of these chippers and who made the first one....in1949 Asplunadh After his name
Seriously thinking of acquiring one of these beasts! I'm a mechanic turned tree guy and I love older equipment. Do you strongly prefer the V8 to the 6 cylinder models?
My Dad bought a 1968 in 68,we was doing a lot of city contracts for dead elms and others plus clearing for the telephone company.we put 10" chinese elm butts up to 25' long ,pulled it way down but rarely died.I sweet my butt off many a summer and beyon.! year later a wane stump grinder.Really dirty at times.
I've seen every wood chipper video in this one's like the best one for his age it's a lot better than the newer technology ones are so expensive that are real slow
new ones have that bar that stops the feed if it gets jammed wow nobody is wearing any safety gear no gloves nos mask no protective gear and why does he have to talk through the whole thing
Do you know if they made any with a 4 cylinder engine, I've got an older machine im having trouble figuring out who made, but it looks very similar to this one?
Awesome crew feeding that monster! Great job . One question. Is it hard to replace the belt? Can you just roll it off the pulleys? Keep up the hard work 💪
If u ever have a problem with your ignition system and it's just not showing up in the boxes or just in the old wires ect I did a efi one lead distributor and it fixed all of it period. It starts bang and run spot on best thing I ever did ..its on Ebay for 65 to 85 bucks ...it the 50 k one u just have to put the gear on the new one for the governor easy np ....
NICE!! I'm looking into a WC126A diesel. They also came with gas Ford's. Maybe I should look into gas considering parts prices, gotta be easy to find parts for automotive gas engines!
Yikes those old gassers were from a time when god gave boomers free gasoline... plus they pump a bunch of carbon monoxide into the area around them and who wants to pay road tax on the fuel lol
Yup, found this 3 years later. There is an old Wayne for sale by me now. Engine parts as you said should be no problem. I would think bearings would be sort of universal, no? My buddy had an old unit, he said there was a part that required oil that failed and cost quite a bit, I don't recall his brand.
Too cool for safety gear I suppose…I’ll never understand the goofs out there that don’t wear ear plugs and safety glasses. It is nice to see that companies operating like this is becoming more rare.
Well like I said I got mine as a back up or use it when I got two crews .dont think I ever get rid of it dont eat anything and its worth more sitting thire then the few dollars I get from selling it. Think u make a mistake letting it go. If the new one goes down your out of business
been down... think it was a wife from this guys home state..( made a movie and a book about it ) I put 2 dead deer through one when they were left on a customers lawn...just saying
you prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can stream all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my gf during the lockdown :)
Does 1970 wood chippers are a lot better than those modern day technology ones either ones or just a lot better there faster powerful and they're better I like these ones I'm just blown away
Why don't you back up to each pile of branches, shoot them into the truck then dump it where the customer wants it. Looks like alot of wasted time dragging the branches so far.
Danger! Amputation injury no Put Hands Foot into The Chipper while in operation keep away from rotating blades contact with blade may pull operator into chipper leading to serve cuts death injury this tree chipper Iz not El toy but Dangerous Equipment
You have the gift to gab. Interesting and informative commentary about a chipper. You should do a podcast!
An old Chuck and Duck, great tool and still going, Thanks
This video was posted on RUclips way back in 1976. Amazing 👏!

Great video thanks. Thanks for Shareing❤❤
I'm a fan of the 318 industrial motor. I had a Dodge van with one in it and zero trouble with that motor and it had plenty of power.

Don't worry, you'll never get 'hurt'. You'll just get 'vaporized'.... LOL

At 6:15 the crew chief sounds like he's introducing fellow band members
Very good job of professional and quality, with good moment in video, the class. I love the job.

Do you strongly prefer the V8 to the 6 cylinder models?
Unbeatable

I'm now just seeing this and that chipper is no joke
Hey, I've got one if you're still interested. I'm in WNY though. Long way from Florida.
I have a M9 Mitts Merrill. Awesome chipper. 330 ford V8
I just bought a old cmc chipmore 16inch wide drum
What makes that buzzing sound on the chipper?
The drum
These are much safer than the new style ones. Drum is farther away and lot less moving parts
new ones have that bar that stops the feed if it gets jammed wow nobody is wearing any safety gear no gloves nos mask no protective gear and why does he have to talk through the whole thing
@@staintedcards a mask?
Do you know if they made any with a 4 cylinder engine, I've got an older machine im having trouble figuring out who made, but it looks very similar to this one?
Do you have a video of the box on that truck?
How much do your people make?
there like any old wood working machine you have to respect it
I just bought a Old 1962 Fitchburg 915 . It needs an engine , I am thinking about putting another Ford 292 or a Dodge 360 .
Thats awesome. What is the power plant running the chipper?
Chrysler 318 V8 industrial. He mentioned it a few times in the vid.
318 dodge
What size log is the max you can put thru that?
Awesome crew feeding that monster! Great job . One question. Is it hard to replace the belt? Can you just roll it off the pulleys?
Keep up the hard work 💪
I need help finding parts or suggestions

How do you know no one is using ear plugs?
And I never knew people who either are or act like homeowners try to tell pros how to do their jobs
Question drum bearing life how many years
That has to be loud.
seems like your output snout's a little loose!
tighten er up a launch then chips!
I've got 7 of them!! But I'm in united Kingdom
You shouldn't have broadcasted that talking about that family and that little boy horrible
I'm sure that family prefers to have the message pushed than hear about another incident in the same way they lost their baby.
Wood chippers are only as dangerous as the people using it.
I see it as a way of killing people
Chuck & duck

been down... think it was a wife from this guys home state..( made a movie and a book about it ) I put 2 dead deer through one when they were left on a customers lawn...just saying
the crew is being aggressive with the machine
