    Elvis, that’s one BEAST of a chipper! These new fangled ones with all that gingerbread bullshit can’t hold a candle to these well made yet simple powerhouses. Most now are diesel but the gas ones seem less expensive to maintain.

    As a suggestion to improve productivity and also save on fuel, move the brush next to the chipper so you don't have to walk back and fourth to pick up stuff while the it sits idling.

      I've been fascinated by chippers since my childhood in the early 1960s. The first one I saw was an Asplundh operated by McCoy Tree Service in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They were a line trimming contractor for the power and phone company and I could hear that machine running all around town.
      I even gave a lecture in my 4Th grade science class on how the drum running at very high RPM stored a huge amount of kinetic energy and large branches could be run through after the engine is shut off.

      They are a huge help that's for shore. These Waynes have a huge steal disk as well on the other video you can see that side it also serves as a fan to add weight to the drum the laud sound is a rapid series of sonic booms as the blades pass the bed knive inside the hopper.

      I believe Mitts & Merrill was the first to use an external flywheel on the blower end and also 12 knives 1/3 the width of the conventional type and helically spaced around the drum which weighed 650 Lbs. The idea was to make the cutting process smoother/quieter and produce smaller chips. They also offered a torque converter instead of clutch plates.

    Hi can you do a quick video on your chip truck trying to figure out how you set yours up. I have a 72 f350 and I'm not trying to go broke on a chipper box.

    Thats hard work man!!
    Eye protection is a good idea. Also you are supposed the engage the clutch at low RPMs - unless you want to buy a new clutch soon.
    If you have been using chippers long enough, YOU WILL FIND THIS OUT THE HARD WAY.
    Fuel will be saved if you have more than 1 guy feeding the machine.
    I have 3 chippers and I grew up feeding asplundhs -similar to yours.
    Who is the guy raking at 13:00 - 14:00 and (22:10) -what a WASTE of time and fuel!
    I really starT to get pissed at 16:33
    1 guy should use the push stick and the other guys feed. AND the old guy Stays OUT of the work zone!
    I tell my clients to stay out of my zone unless they want to help AND sign a liability release!!
    I have had spectators hit in the face bleeding with chippers and a stump grinder!! Stupid old people.
    Work smart not hard.
    - WITH THE BEST INTENTIONS - GOOD LUCK.

      @@josemedina-dw9re Evidently not, ProTrees is right, your always supposed to engage the clutch on a chipper at idle or near that. Even with our mowers we engage the PTO at 1/2 throttle because it does the same thing if you kick it on at full blast.

  • @elvistreeclimber
    @elvistreeclimber  9 лет назад +2

    watch the video again notice I throttle down before I engage the drum chip a couple branches then throttle up the governor takes over from there. clutch plates cost 25 bucks and I can change it out in under 1 hour.....and and altec wtf man if your going to go modern get a brush bandit intimidator and pull it with an international s1900 this a piece of American history god old wayne with a chrysler 318

      hey james how does the wood chipper tell you that its hungry how do you give it a full truck load of wood chips and how do you calm it down after eating some trees

  • @CrestwoodRocks
    @CrestwoodRocks 9 лет назад +1

    I don't think I will have the throttle up that high if I ran that. I probably will have the throttle similar to what the Altec Models go to

    Dude please stay safe at least buy yourself some safety gear a helmet with built in ear defenders and a face guard, you have to look after yourself doing this kind of work because nobody else will.
