@@lancerevell5979 Yeah, people _never_ read signs. I had an employee who would never see anything posted on the wall. One day she tried to take her two young boys to daycare only to find out it was closed. Apparently they had a sign on the wall for a week or more that she never saw even once. LOL
@@AngelaVEdwards Some of that is just the way the human brain works. About 30 years ago I worked in a convenience store we were renovating. We had put a sign on the front door saying we were closed and why, and covered the doors with newspaper. We had to leave the doors unlocked for safety reasons and because we had to keep going in and out. People still kept coming in. They claimed they didn't see the sign or newspaper, that it blended in with all the other signage on the front (soda, cigarettes, drinks, etc). We turned the closed sign upside down. That actually stopped 99% of the people from coming in, because with it upside down, it was different enough from the rest of the signs then, that people stopped to actually read what it said. With it right-side up, it blended in too much.

I remember this from my days in the navy. At sick call a woman came in and demanded immediate attention. The personnel tried to explain that the que was by the seriousness of the illness. When she tried to pull her husband's rank to jump the line for something very minor. Unfortunately for her one of the women waiting her turn was the base commander's wife. She then pulled her husband's rank and position right back. She stated that she would be next to last with the Karen following her. The story was all over the base the next day. And it wasn't a small base. I was there and saw it all first hand. I was a base driver and supplying transport to a patent.
@@francit4856 Good military spouses know how to support their spouses' careers. At the very least, don't flash rank. Much better, be of service to the military community. For nearly everyone involved, military service is disruptive and stressful, and working to be helpful both alleviates your own stress and makes the whole facility work better. That actually works for the rest of society too - it's just more intense with military.
That’s so classy of her (the other lady/commander’s wife). She could’ve easily just kept her place in line and demanded the Karen go to the back, but instead she chose to lead by example AND humble the Karen!
Commander's wife was definitely a class act and I would have LOVED to have seen the Karen's face when she was shown how far down the totem pole she really was!!😊😄🥺😆
I’ve had two minor IDWHL moments which were not Kareny enough for Reddit but amused me at the time so I thought I would share. Firstly, in the UK we have a nationwide chain of convenience stores called The Co-op. Their staff often wear grey fleeces. I have a grey fleece but it is completely different in style. Theirs is thicker and quilted. A couple of times I have been mistaken for an employee but this one time, I was in a store that was not my local one. A woman asked me where something was and I replied that I had no idea. She said “Don’t you work here”and I say no. She said that maybe I should wear a different jacket so people don’t get confused. I tried to quip back that does she expect me to carry a selection of shirts and jackets when I go shopping so I can change in the car park before I go into each shop. However, I must have sounded brusquer than I intended because she looked absolutely shocked. This caused me to have a fit of giggles which was infectious and she started giggling too. I flagged down an employee and we went on our merry way.
The second story was when I actually did work in retail for a large UK supermarket who’s motto is Every Little Helps (though many believe that the initial letter E is superfluous). My store was in a small town outside Chesterfield, England and I could often be seen manning the self service checkouts. It was my day off and I went to the larger store in Chesterfield itself to get some bits. I went into the self service area and was scanning my goods when a lady in the next lane turned to me and said “Excuse me” (in a polite manner). I turned to her and she looked at me and clocked that I wan’t in uniform. She looked half confused and half embarrassed. I told her not to worry and said that she’s probably seen me in the Clay Cross store. Recognition then dawned and we laughed. Sadly, I didn’t see her again and I resigned soon after.
I'm pretty sure that in most western militaries, but especially in the US, using your spouse's rank to get favors is a surefire way to get said spouse a disciplinary hearing. It's treated exactly the same as the spouse misusing their authority.
At my last Navy assignment at Norfolk, Va , a female enlisted coworker in my shop was married to an Officer. She caught Hell from the other officers wives, for the crime of being () an enlisted! It's one reason that relations between enlisteds and officers is frowned on.
True. Sometimes even those in the higher enlisted ranks try this nonsense. When I lived in base housing my neighbor thought she was queen bee of the block. The deflated expression on her face when she found out my husband actually outranked hers was a thing of beauty to behold. 😂
Costco story: Well done by the brother/manager for delivering a permanent ban on Karen! Big orange home improvement store story: Well it's been awhile since I've been there since I have two big blue home improvement stores that are closer to me. But the last time I checked, big orange's uniform was an orange bib apron with their logo on it. PX story: For those not in the know, an O6 actually is a high-ranking officer, just a step below the Admiral and General ranks. In the Navy or Coast Guard it's a Captain. In the Army, Marines, Air Force and Space Force it's a full-bird Colonel. You would think by the time someone actually reaches that rank they would know better than to pull that type of BS! And being dropped two ranks to an O-4 (Navy Lt. Cmdr., Army Major) is a huge demotion and blow to the career path and paycheck. Not to mention what it would do to any hopes of making flag rank and retirement. Hospital story: Please tell me Karen managed to break her phone despite its case!
The Costco my sister works at, immediately cancels the membership of badly misbehaving people. They can't say anything back because they agreed to it when you purchase your membership. They can't shop there anymore.
Story 2 reminds me and my husband’s superior’s wife (military). So basically we bumped into each other at a shopping mall and the superior a nice guy he wouldn’t let my husband salute him in public as they’re bunk buddies back during recruits. So anyway the wife felt offended and told my husband to salute her husband anyway and told me to address her more formally as she’s the superior’s wife. Me: why should I? Both of us not belong to the army, we’re civilians. Karen: well I’m superior’s wife so I’m more superior than u even tho we’re civilians. Me: well I’m a civilian government officer and u are ranked below me as you’re just a govt clerk. I outranked u in our government 😂
OMG! The nerve! You outrank her in the civil service hierarchy, but she has a big air balloon head because of her hubbies rank. Way to go to deflate her ego!
Some spouses seem to have a bizarre sense of entitlement. A couple months ago I had one behind me in line at the Subway on Base and she was right on top of me and kept swinging her shopping bag into my leg. In addition to the literal physical contact I'm immunosuppressed, so I asked her to back up a little, explaining that she kept hitting me. She sarcastically responded with "wow, that would be really rude of me" and she wouldn't let up with the sarcastic remarks until I was done paying. I wish I'd had the nerve to tell her off.

P.S.- Karen and her husband are definitely going to need discounts now as getting knocked back TWO pay grades is going to make them feel a little bit of a pinch when it comes down to spending time!! The dependapotamus does it again!!
Story 3: The military has a code of conduct that all personnel are expected to uphold, even when not on duty. Breaking that code is a serious offense and can 100% get you in big trouble.
It works in stupid situations, too. A friend of mine, A, a nurse, joined the Medical Corps and was sent to a training base in Canada, with his wife, also a nurse ( but a civilian!). His wife discovered that the Base Commandant's wife was a close friend from school, so of course got together with her. So a Sergeant visits Private A, and says "Your wife is friendly with the Commandant's wife" "Yes, says Pte A, "They are old friends from school" "Not any more, they aren't" says Sergeant. "I'm not going to tell my wife she can't talk to her bestie", says Pte A. Then in walks the Sergeant Major... Long story short, it rose up and up, until it got to A's Commanding Officer, and A still insisted that his wife had every right to talk to an old friend, and was nothing to do with the Army. Even the Base Commandant's wife was defending her right to have chats with her old friend... So Pte A was busted out of the Army.
Story 2 To be fair, that Karen had great survival instincts. Always run, don't walk, away from anybody who tells you that they're not scared to go to jail.
I am constantly amazed at Karens and Kevins who confuse customers for employees. I am an Army retiree, live on Massachusetts' Cape Cod and wear a kilt 7 days a week Spring, Summer and Fall. I also have combat-connected PTSD. To my knowledge, a Scottish kilt is not in any store's dress code but I myself have been shopping and have had Karens and Kevins accuse me of being a bad employee who is refusing to do my job and assist them.
I have a similar story with the O6. I had friends in security forces. They told me of an officers kid had climbed on the roof of the school on base. The kid refused to come down because his daddy was a Major and there was no thing they could do to him. The dad was called. Instead of taking it out on the my friend he yelled at the kid for being an entitled shit and told him to get down. He then told my friend that whatever punishment they want to pursue he would cooperate with them.
What is it with Karens being unable to read signs or extremely clear instructions? The number of times I've been in a retail place where some Karen is demanding to know where something is, and there is a big neon glowing sign with arrows pointing at the damn thing within easy view is astounding.
My husband is (now retired) military. The only thing your husband's higher rank earns you is a responsibility to look out for the wives of the younger, lower ranking guys, and those young guys themselves. My husband was an E7, a big deal in the Navy, and that's what it meant to me--I needed to look out for his guys just like he did. It did NOT earn me special privileges, just responsibilities. I hated wives like that 'person'. She didn't earn that rank; she didn't earn any privileges.
Story 3: Wow, so not only is Karen the type of person to sic somebody on innocent people over petty drama, as well as attack anyone and everyone, but the husband was so egotistical that he really thought he could get anyone demoted because of petty drama as well. Glad he'll never be a leader again, he does not deserve that power.
The husband was probably also put at the very bottom of every promotion list along with his demotions. I doubt he'll have much of a career in the service after all of that (as usually once someone is passed over for promotion more than once, they are usually mustered out, or they have been in the past).
She was what we in the military called a "Dependapotamus". They like to "wear" their husband's rank, which is a no-no, THEY are not military. This can and does sometimes result in the actual military spouse getting in trouble, losing rank and pay, sometimes worse. 🤨
Yep, O-6 (Full Colonel) is as much a political job as anything in the US military. They don't bust people at that level down to major very often, it's a scarlet letter of fuckwittery and the kiss of death for your ambition.
You grab my arm, you will be meeting the floor and will be held there until the police arrive. I didn’t get a black belt in judo for no reason. I wanted to finish it but it was to actually have something physical to do to help with my PTSD after service.
I bet Karen and her man-child husband are probably playing the blame game with each other after that fiasco and the husband being demoted, and it serves them both right, in the end.
The story involving the man in orange. That lady would lose her mind in colorado. From aug thru jan its hunting season. EVERYBODY walks around in blaze orange! (That's what it's called) 🤣🤣🤣
Story 1: Always. Press. Charges. Never let anyone assault you and get away with it. Make sure they know that any time they do this they will be arrested. Story 4: Technically O6's civilian dependent committed Attempted Extortion. O6 committed Conduct Unbecoming. OP could have formal charges made.
This is why it is so very important to be careful of the company we keep, especially spouses. Guilty by association isn't just in law enforcement, bad company corrupts good character. Better to be single, content, and honorable than married, miserable, and disgraced.
Story 2: A number of people have zero respect for employees, considering them subhuman. They'll grab people, yell at them, and jump to "I'll get you fired" over minor inconveniences. Karen committed assault and excused it as "Teaching someone manners," yet when OP was trying to push her away from OP's husband it's 100% assault.
Someone is going to tell a Karen she’s going to be wearing a yellow jumpsuit if she continues to harass people and in extreme cases putting their hands on them
I too wear orange shirts and frequent Home Depot a lot. I've often been asked for help. Since I knew the store, I could usually point them in the right direction. Never got a true Karen, but a number of people were confused why I didn't take them to their item. Got a lot of nervous giggles when I explained I was a customer too.
I'd respond similarly if threatened with jail: "I have nothing to lose, so, yes, Karen, PLEASE have the police take me there again!" Although, I'll probably never be confused for an employee thankfully. I do kind of feel like I'd be liable to have a day when I'm yelled at for doing drugs/being intoxicated (due to wearing prescription sunglasses for light sensitivity I was born with, as well as speech problems and certain mental things at times), harming myself for attention (due to volunteering at the local Animal Control and getting scratched by claws on occasion) when in public by a judgemental Karen with nothing better to do, though. I hope that never happens either, and for their sake, they should probably also hope it never happens, especially if they want to try getting physical.
I have a suggestion for all the ops who are still getting mistaken for employees when you're not, wear yellow vest with a sign sewn on the back that says in large black letters I DON'T WORK HERE!
By the logic of the Karen in the hospital--she also works at the hospital if she's seen OP there so many times--she's also there with the same frequency.
The last Karen oh my yelling at a woman in the hospital that you've never talked to before just because you have seen her before then throwing her phone at her I'm pretty sure she's Only Allowed in the hospital if she's unconscious lol
Omg why do people think they can pit their hands on other people I am waiting for the day for someone try and put their hands on me. Fluff I have learn so much all these years from you.. I call it dark fluff 101.❤❤
That 06 ( lieutenant colonel ) being demoted to captain (03) is basically career suicide. Thus he has 2 options, either retirement or being mustered out.
Story 1 - I’m with you there. If that Karen, or anyone for that matter, was stupid enough to grab me like that she’d be on the ground with a broken hand/arm. I’m a 1st degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. For the record, I’m not a violent person but I also don’t take crap from anyone.
I work for the Big Orange store, and you cannot imagine how hard it is to find people who actually want to work. Probably half of the new hires quit before they hit the 3-month point.
I work for that store too. Half of the new hires quit before they’re even through training and on the floor. Half of what’s left don’t even make it three months.
story 2: op acting crazy was what made karen quit tbh. saying you would love to go to prison for teaching a karen lesson? karen decided it wasn't worth it and that was awesome lol
The Home Depot thats in the area im in actually has a decent amount of employees and they’re very nice to answer your questions where items are never had any problems with them
My Big Orange (totally not Home Depot) store is great. There are a bunch of employees and most are veterans and handyman (sorry, handyperson) types. So, you not only get the help you need, but you get some great conversation if you ask about how to do something a little easier than you are trying to do it.
Story 4: it annoys me that no one turns her story on her and says something like “ma’am, every time you’ve seen her here, you’ve been here for an appointment too, unless you’re saying you work here now based on how much you come to the hospital?”
If I had to deal with a Karen upon entering the hospital under those circumstances, I feel like I would be at risk of self destructing. It is good to hear that they were able to tolerate that Karen and move on.
Karen: [Taps me on the shoulder] Hey do you have this in Size 14? Me: No, I wear Size 12 so I don't own ANY clothes in a 14, however, if you talk to that Employee over there, they are paid to help Customers like you and me... 😄😁😆😅😂🤣
As someone who was in the military, I am glad I never had to come across entitled people like that wearing their spouse's rank on their sleeve like they earned it in story 3. But the horror stories I heard made me count my blessings and thank my lucky stars for it.
I was at a hospital for an appointment and while in the waiting area a machine identical to one I repair at my place of business happened to fail and the hospital tech was having an issue fixing it. I commented to him I work on those and stated how to fix it and at almost same time a nurse called name for my appointment and when I headed there she wanted to know why I was heading there I told her that she called my name and she was confused. I explained I happen to repair that item at work and saw him having issues and explained the fix. The nurse thought it was odd that anyone would do that
Under the state law in my state, if a Karen grabbed my arm at a store I could then unholster the little 380 semi-auto that I carry as my concealed carry pistol and point it straight at her head. And under my state law as she does anything past that point to make me feel threatened I have the right to use deadly force under our stand-your-ground laws
If this sub has taught me anything, it's that when a Karen puts her hands on you, what you need to do is scream "Assalt!!" and drop to the ground like a limp noodle. Gotta be one step ahead of the crazy! Plus, this works even if you're an employee. Bonus points if you can cry on command
Karen and her 06 hubby sound like a match made in heck. Two clusters of bees that found ... love? Or codependency? Either way, good riddance. I guess they don't screen properly for PDs in the military these days.
Costco Story: What I'm wondering is does getting Banned from one store only prevent you from going to that store or does it automatically get your Membership Cancelled and block you from entering ANY Costco store?
Story 2: ugh military spouses are the worst level of entitlement, using they're husband's rank to bully the public into giving her what she wants, I know being a military spouse is hard, but I'm not gonna address you by your husband's rank, HE earned that rank, not you. Also a lot of people in the military seem to forget that military spouse's actions reflect poorly to the spouse, actually serving, at best they get to clean toilets for a month or so, at worse, they get dishonorably discharged
The most stupid thing about Story #2 is that EVERY employee I've ever seen working there wears a big orange apron with the company name on it, so....wtf lady, lol. Also, I was a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps and boy can I say it was appalling to hear the story about the friggin' O6 and his wife. I literally NEVER saw anything like that in more than a decade of service. Glad it worked out, though.
I had a moment the other day. Had my Amazon driver vest on in a Giant Foods and got asked where some stuff was. Nothing happened from it but was weird to actually happen.
I was in a Staples once, and was asked by a random lady of I could look in the back for an item she wanted. I had to tell her twice that I didn’t work there. She eventually left the aisle I was in but kept looking over her shoulder at me to see if I would change my mind and confess that I was an employee. I wasn’t and didn’t.
1story: Just because someone knows a employee personally it doesn't mean they are one themselves, use your eyes & check for tags or uniforms with the story name.
So you think I'm an employee because I was talking to one. Using your own logic, you are talking to what you think is an employee, so therefore you are also an employee. In that case go find your own crap.
You do NOT pay tax on items sold on a US military base in the exchange stores. Fast food sometimes does charged tax since they are open to non-ID card holders.

Don’t these people know that there are security cameras in the store?
They’re not bright enough to notice 😳
They're too focused on being violent psychopaths than to pay attention to security cameras.
When I was in security guard training, we were told "People never look up, and never read signs". I've found that is often too true. 🙄

Commanders wife was a class act.
At least both your stories are fairly wholesome, unlike most of the IDWHL stories on Reddit. I liked both of them.
I live in the U.S. and we also have a chain of stores that are named CO-OP. Ours mostly sell farming and pet supplies.

Story 2
To be fair, that Karen had great survival instincts.
To my knowledge, a Scottish kilt is not in any store's dress code but I myself have been shopping and have had Karens and Kevins accuse me of being a bad employee who is refusing to do my job and assist them.
the moment a Karen puts her grubby hands me, is the moment she will lose fingers.
I think it's safe to assume they can't read at all.
The dude of story 3 would have been the type of ''leader'' to put half his unit on firing squad for the dumbest thing back in WW1
Story 3: Karen literally destroyed her husband career in one go.... good for you, KAren...
To be fair, he wasn't exactly helping his case.
He did that himself by encouraging her. This is the final straw, not a one time thing, which he clearly is part of.
He got off lucky, he should be dishonorably discharged
Yep, O-6 (Full Colonel) is as much a political job as anything in the US military. They don't bust people at that level down to major very often, it's a scarlet letter of fuckwittery and the kiss of death for your ambition.

Story 4: Technically O6's civilian dependent committed Attempted Extortion. O6 committed Conduct Unbecoming. OP could have formal charges made.
As a former employee of Home Depot and an employee at a place with sign issues, i completely believe all of this.
Oh boy, that last story is something else. And poor OP! Thank goodness the nurses were kind to her and that Karen witch got taught a lesson!
This is why it is so very important to be careful of the company we keep, especially spouses. Guilty by association isn't just in law enforcement, bad company corrupts good character. Better to be single, content, and honorable than married, miserable, and disgraced.

I'd respond similarly if threatened with jail: "I have nothing to lose, so, yes, Karen, PLEASE have the police take me there again!"
Although, I'll probably never be confused for an employee thankfully.

Now that I think about it our state laws in Nevada are probably why karenitis never reaches pandemic levels around here
I was at a hospital for an appointment and while in the waiting area a machine identical to one I repair at my place of business happened to fail and the hospital tech was having an issue fixing it.
I commented to him I work on those and stated how to fix it and at almost same time a nurse called name for my appointment and when I headed there she wanted to know why I was heading there
I told her that she called my name and she was confused. I explained I happen to repair that item at work and saw him having issues and explained the fix. The nurse thought it was odd that anyone would do that
It must be nice to be able to physically protect yourself from being manhandled.
