You people are the first company that I’ve ever heard of that doesn’t cast aspersions on other manufacturers but rather you tweak and improve on their designs and in doing so you make an already good vehicle a truly fantastic vehicle and that is for me a sign of a great business model. 👍
You’ve taken a good product and made it so much better, and I finally see how you access the ladder with those foot pegs. Looking forward to more modifications
Thank you so much for listing all of the components; some of the van build narrators rattle off the various accessories but refer the listener to a website where it's hard to figure out what components went where. So appreciate the helpful information with links!
spectacular and it is much better when the person who does it likes to do it is a retailer I truly congratulate you,,,,,,,, as soon as I have the money I go to your workshop to have you make my camper van
With so many other bits that hang below the body line, the exhaust side exit is minimal at best. I would think Winny's reasoning is not so much fumes at rest but when underway. There is a large vacuum at the rear. Air moving through interior venting causing a vacuum inside the body opens the possibility that any leak at the rear would suck in. By exiting out the side the exhaust is put out into the air stream and dissipated. Just 2 cents.
Finally decent solar panels, thank you! Companies that install 30W panels please note, they dont do shlt except for your marketing so you can say you have solar.
Nice upgrades. My favorite one is the bull nose with the Winch. Inside I would like to upgrade the solar package and replace the propane range with a recessed two burner induction cooktop
Spared no expense except for the cheap master lock on the spare tire that my uncle with nerve damage in his hand could pick or you know use a small bolt cutter. Get a Sargent and Greenleaf Model 951C not only does it look amazing a lock smith couldn't open it and with the ceramic plates good luck grinding through it.
Love it. I drove a Sprinter for HVAC service for 12 years and fell in love with it capabilities. Mine was a 2wd model, but doing heating service in New England, I found it difficult to get stuck in whatever amount of snow the Mother Nature dumped on us. Mine also had a little diesel pony motor out the cab, under the front seat. It's sole purpose was to heat the water jacket faster. It would not run if you were low on fuel, but it really helped on cold mornings and nights.
GREAT tour - it felt fast, yet was very details (and not much shaky cam)! I do like the composting toilets, in theory. I do not like the liquid separator container (standard). I have seen vans, similar to this where the owner made a "yellow tank" or yellow water tank, so the liquids were much easier to handle, less smell and spill issues and having to empty much less often (more inline with the saw dust/compost - maintenance). I often think people in vans are nuts. I mean they really have no good place to do their "business", ever. The wet head/shower is not a bad trade off. My goal is really to find a nice 40' ++ sailboat with TWO heads and at least one "dry" head + shower setup. Even a separate show + separate head and then another (backup?) head is a good idea. It could even be fore guests. I never am a fan of the black water tanks - so composting, even if on are on a heavy lean (monohull, sailboat), is feasible, in theory. I could not imagine having many overnight guests in a 23' van or truck. 45' + sailing vessel - no prob for short stays!
Eddy currents due to a pressure drop at the rear of the moving vehicle (a horizontal flat surface) produces greater resident times of exhaust gases at the back door compared to discharge from the side.

Beautiful build. I watched without sound....so I didn’t catch any commentary. I can’t help but wonder the cost. $150K for a Revel, plus what looks like $30-$50K in upgrades. I was just happy to install KO2’s on my 4Runner. These dream builds both inspire and depress me.

@@owloffroad so, how does the process work, does the customer have to turn up with the Sprinter van and you customize to the client's spec.? I'm glad I went back and watched this video for the tip @4:30, which is exactly what I'm contemplating. 16" or 17" wheels? Do you still feel the 16's provide more tire options? I'm wanting a look that fills up the wheel well better than the factory 16's. But not if it hinders the performance. I recently had you guys install the VC suspension mod, which I do love, but these factory 16's (Kumho Crugen's) gotta go. Thanks in advance. Owl Van Fan, Bobby T.
It would be interesting to hear your thoughts about why you chose to start with a Revel base as opposed to just building out a blank cargo van. Everyone has different reasoning behind this decision - would be interesting to hear yours.
We chose the Revel for a variety of reasons. First, we are not an interior company. While we have small items for the interior, we don't do heats, insulation, wiring etc. Second, the Revel has become one of the best selling platform and we wanted to make products directly for these vans. We felt the only way to do that well was to build up our ultimate Revel. This is not to say there aren't other platforms out there that aren't as good or better. The Storyteller Overland has really nice fit and finish and Freedom VanGo does some of the best electrical work of any builder.
the exhaust pipe , should bend over towards behind the rear wheel. If you leave it straight and decide to put a trailer hitch box or bag on the back it will burn , melt it.... experience knows ~peace~
Q. How heavy is that floor jack mounted up on the roof. For some people the act of bringing that baby to the ground may lead to vehicle damage or someone getting hurt
Is it normal to have a little bit of wavy sheet metal above the window? Not sure if all are like this or if the one we are looking at was a bad window cut
Most side ladders- allowable 3 points of contact, reasonable step up height, comfortable egress, can use in inclement weather, can use any footwear as treads are wide and sometimes deep. Owl ladder- yeah but it contours to the body tho...
Anyone know if there are any plans to bring out an extended wheelbase Revel ? I'd like to see some more room inside for long term or fulltime living And room for more solar as well as lithium batteries for longer off grid time. Also a 2 burner conduction cooktop and bigger deeper sink with more galley space, other then that i love it, but a bit small for full-time use. ???
Winnebago has the 170" Bodlt but 170" vans need to be a 3500 (dual rear wheels) for weight compliance. Unfortunately, 3500s are less ideal because they have less interior room and are worse off-road than an equivalent SRW van.
Owl Vans Engineering So do they make 170” wheelbase 3500 Dualy 4x4 that could be lifted ? Wouldn’t that give you more space in & out for more solar, lithium etc ? Or your saying that creates more problems ? I’m trying to figure out how to get 1,500 watts of solar panels & enough lithium to run a/c 24/7 if needed. Maybe with a diesel coveting hot water heater & heat & everything else electronic ?
@@amarsa1961 You can lift 3500's but most people prefer to have a single rear wheel vehicle for off-road. Also, I am no solar expert but running an AC for 24/7 isn't feasible with lithium + Solar. You would need a generator or a second alternator.
Owl Vans Engineering . Hypothetically, If you did have a solar panel system where you did have 1,500-2,000 watts of solar & say 15 lithium batteries on a diesel vehicle with diesel water heater & inside heater, wouldn’t that do a/c & everything else ? I know having a generator for the a/c would be way cheaper but for the sake of max off grid I guess it could be done but make more sense in a cabin as you’d need gas or diesel for the vehicle , when it runs low you’d have to find a fuel station. But if you could have enough solar & battery you could stay by the sea in Baja for example & stay till you got sick of fresh fish !
Do y'all sell the "flooring" that goes with the roof rack separate? I have a roof rack on my jeep and I would love a material like that to add on the roof rack as a 'floor'
Nice work and equipment. I would add the fat hellwig rear sway bar. Make sure to add the larger bolts to secure it. Made a worlds of difference driving in crosswind. Off-road on chucky/rutty dirt roads may cause the axle to pull up due to its strength relative to original thin sway bar.
