This is why Chris came up with and brought this story to the music video for this song. To not only bring awareness/shine a light on mental health/illness, but also put a spotlight on the loved ones who stick by their friends and family when they're struggling mentally. Hence the meaning of the song, like "fire away with whatever you have. It won't dissuade or push me away from loving you."

    • @ImThe5thKing

Also, it means "fire your shots at me. I can take it. Try and hurt me and not yourself"

The only thing worse than suffering from depression and mental illnesses (suicidal thoughts) is watching someone you LOVE suffer through it...you are there with them.

The only thing equal to maybe, but not worse. Being that person, is horrible, as is loving that person. But I think the person living it is in more hell than those loving them who have a detachment to the actual feeling cos they don't have those feelings.

I’ve actually dealt with this to the point where, it has become tragically the norm. Wasn’t till re-watching this video, you realize how much energy, love, emotion… Everything That you put into caring about someone in this kind of situation. Which one is worse? For both parties, it seems like it’s so apparent that there is no great answer, but for the caring one, it is close to impossible to figure out the right thing to do to make things better. I hate that anybody has to deal with this.

This song hits me so hard! I'm her. I've been there more times than I want to admit! Luck for me I ran into an old friend from school. I was back in town for my great grandmother's funeral and my 15 year high school reunion, my mom talked me in to going and me and my old friend spent the whole night talking. He went his way and I went back home. Went through some more crap and lost my mom. I was way far gone in a dark dark place and 2 months after losing my mom he called...12 years later with my husband and finally getting meds right, I luckily haven't gone to that dark side. Years ago I would have never been able to say that I'm bipolar manic depressive with suicidal tendency, now I'm just bipolar with manic episodes and no thoughts of suicide! Meds work, but having someone in your corner and being that support system makes it so much easier! Thank you for reacting to this song, it is a hard subject to tackle!!

I'm glad you are doing better. Videos like this and comments like yours really help shine a light on depression and/or mental disorders. Things like this are so taboo still and many people just keep it all in because they are afraid of what other might, do, say, or think. Keep fighting, keep being strong.

@@Ming3484 you are definitely right about mental health being looked down upon and treated like someone is faking every thing. There is a company that makes memorial plaques for fallen soldiers. They also make metal bracelets with a soldiers name and all on it, and t-shirts. I have a t-shirt that says mental health awareness on the front and break the stigma on the back. I love the company, they do a lot for vets and mental health, ptsd, and the plaques for the families. The company it Till Valhalla. But thank you so much for your sweet reply!

@@dellakimbertk444 Thank you! You'll get there. But the most important part to getting there is your support system, I'm glad your husband is there for you, but also have another person. It is hard on them too. It took my husband a long time to understand that my swings could be caused by something or nothing. I'm surprised that he put up with my crazy!! But it was very trying for him, because I didn't have anyone else. Like I said though my meds are working and my lows for the most part are gone or not as intense. I still have a good bit of manic episodes, my husband says he never knows what furniture will be moved where. I already clean like crazy and I'm OCD and my manic episodes make my OCD worse...daily...daily battle!!! Honey if you need to talk any time just message me on Facebook. Its Micki Rainey and I think my profile picture is me with Santa Claus. But I'll give you my number then. If you need to talk, just sit there not talking just knowing someone is there, hell even if it is having someone to help hide the body...I got you🤣🤣 Just a joke for everyone who reads this wrong!!! But good luck to you and you got this!! Prays for you too!!

She wasn't drinking, she was bi-polar, going from being happy go lucky to dark depression in the blink of an eye. There are a lot of videos of Chris performing but he doesn't do "music videos". His label kept pushing him to do one till he finally agreed but only under some conditions, one that he does not appear singing or performing, {he is in it as the bartender}, that he writes the song, and that he has say in picking the actors and in the direction of the video. The result is Fire Away. He wanted to focus attention on people with mental health issues and their loved ones who stick with them and try to make it better.

  • @seaneendelong8065
    @seaneendelong8065 2 года назад +17

My bff is bipolar- and it took a major crisis at 26 to realize she needed serious help to get the swings under control...
5 years later she got pregnant for the first time and had to go off meds- it was harrowing, then she did it again exactly 2 years later. Amazing she got through it all, but her kids anchored her enough to hold on.
Now, decades later, just missing ONE pill in the morning and by lunchtime whatever chemical imbalance was fighting to take control at that moment surges out and seizes her mind and emotions... be it hyper up or suicidal down. I have abandoned work or family to rush to her house and grab her meds to bring her the missed pill(s) even, because waiting might be catastrophic like this video...
Nature is cruel, and sometimes humans are built broken in hidden ways. Modern life just allows them to live much longer than in the past and mask the problems better 😐 so you may well know someone suffering but on meds to keep it in check.

He feels like he is getting better. We're in this marriage for better or worse, and in sickness and health. I won't ever walk away. There are days that I get resentful, but then I pray, and realize that he doesn't want to be this way. If he could wish it away he would be his old self. 😢

I still cant leave the house without thinking I will come home and see her hanging from our bannister on the 2nd level of the house. I wouldn't leave her alone for years. She will turn 21 this October and thank God, she found a good psychiatrist and an even better therapist and with the right medications, she is such a different person today. Welcome to country music. It explores ALL of life. Love found, love lost, the highs and lows that our paths lead us through, everything. This is one of the most heartbreaking songs and videos I've ever seen. But that's country music. You go to a concert and find yourself laughing, shouting to the band, then crying and total silence reigns. Chris can take you there, just like the old school singers like George Jones and Charlie Pride (perhaps the most famous black country singer way back when they were not common). True heart and soul poured into their music.

To anyone going thru a difficult time, know that you are loved, know that you are not alone, and know that even though things look bad at the moment, that will all pass. Don't be afraid to speak up. Who ever you talk to may get sad when you talk to them but they will be 100 times more sad if you pass away.

This is why it is so important to check on your people. I mean like REALLY check in on yoyr people. Sometimes people suffer in silence and wont tell you something is wrong so you gotta watch for clues. The ones who are ALWAYS happy, are the ones who are most likely suffering the most. If you're hurting, reach out to someone...anyone. There are people who love you and who are willing to help. Hell, send me a message. I'll do whatever I can to help anyone. If nothing else, just know that you are loved and you are important. ❤

This video always hits me hard because it reminds me of my wife and all the amazing memories of her and love we had she had the most amazing smile that i miss so much. But at the same time she also mirrored all the same struggles shown in this video and I had alot of the same experiences portrayed in this aswell. She found me when i was at my worst and pulled me out of the depths of hell and she saved me and I tried so hard to save her but in the end I failed and for that ill never forgive myself. She was only 31 years old I went to work and when I came home I found her no phone call I had to make the calls. She made the world so much briter with her in it, the gods made a mistake they should have taken me not her so now It just leaves me waiting for my turn for tomorrow not to come for the chance to hold her again. I miss her so fucking bad every second of every day. Great words for those going through mental health issues and those around them. Talk to the person, listen to them, come along side them and support them as much as you can. Let's take the stigma away from those suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, etc.

I'm with you on this one... this and Brothers in Arms are the two most powerfully emotional pieces of music I've ever seen. There's no coming back from something like this. Too often if they are determined, there's nothing you can do but love them and hope they find a way out of their pain.

This is a amazing way to bring to light that people have depression/ mental issues. You can help or protect them as much you can but you can't protect them from themselves. A sad but great video.

I don't know any other song who views mental health from the one loving the one with mental distress. This song could be sung from the spouse or parent or sibling. It's hard to love someone who is manic-depressive or bi-polar. But, the singer says "fire away"

As someone who suffers with bipolar depression daily, I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you spoke your truth with this reaction. We DO need to do better as a society to help those who suffer from illnesses that we cannot see with our eyes. We need more LOVE IN THIS WORLD, AND LESS HATE!
For those who suffer, I can't speak for anyone but myself but, I think our biggest fear is being forgotten by the people we love; the people who say "I got your back through whatever" and the sad realization that they don't. Our minds, our thoughts, our actions can be downright ugly as f*ck; then there's days we can be "high on life" and feeling invincible, then one small thought, one simple misunderstanding can catapult us into such a dark spot, that it feels impossible to get out of. Society as a whole needs to come together and step up our love and open our hearts. You never know what somebody is going through, so be kind with your words; who knows? Maybe a simple word/act of love and kindness can help improve someone's mood.
LOVE the reaction Greg, thank you for doing this song. You should check out Matt Cannon - The Call. Similar message, amazingly underrated song.
    Much love fam. 💜

Greg, this was the first time watching your reactions and I must say this one was great. I am a mother with a son who has been diagnosed with PTSD, bi-polar with psychotic features, severe depression, Generalized Anxiety disorder and ADHD. What a combination. I noticed a change in him when he was 13, I got him counseling and we had family counseling as well. He was 15 the first time he cut his wrists and the first time he was placed in a psychiatric facility. He got involved with drugs and became an addict. Psychiatrist said he was self medicating. I can't tell you how many times I had to do a 302 on him or had to take him to talk criss at the hospital. When he was 21 he finally opened up and told me the worst news a mother never wants to hear. Between the ages of 8-12 he was being abused by a neighbor who was also the younth minister. Has always blamed himself but because of his bravery coming forward the perp is in jail serving a plea deal of 12-42 yrs. Once my son finally came forward it was discovered he wasn't the only child. My son has attempted suicide at least 8 times that I know about and has been placed between 10-15 times over the years. In his mid 20's he did put himself into a program and got himself clean and still does his best to stay that way. I can tell you that it is so hard watching someone you love so much to struggle that way. I worry about him so much. He doesn't have the closest relationship with his siblings because of everything that happened when we were living this nightmare when he was younger. It's hard trusting or mending those fences. They do know what happened and know what he suffers from but they still are distant from him. I have tried to make it clear to them that I am not going to be around forever and when I am gone that he's not going to handle it well and they are going to have to step up to the plate and look after him or they will lose him too. It's just not easy. He's 32 now but he still struggles. What I do hate the most is how people with mental health get treated. I would say that 99% of people never take the time to understand what the person is dealing with. Same as when someone is abusing drugs they don't take the time to try to figure out what's behind all of it. They just want to write them off as crazy or an addict. This world needs to wake up and realize ever action has a reaction. Just sometimes you need to figure out what the action was that caused the reaction. The answer may shock some people. My son could always draw and wanted to be a graphic designer but I have learned he will always be fighting this devil inside him and won't ever be able to keep a job due to the fact that some days he can't even get out of bed to other days he so hyped up he can think straight to days he can't control his anger. It is very draining on the ones who love him but I know I couldn't bear losing him.

@@cjturner370 Thank you so much. I do what I can. I have had to do things that I never thought I would ever have to do but the alternative wasn't something I could handle. I do hope you have someone you can open up to and I do hope you can find the strength to put the bottle down before it does damage to you. My son's father passed away from cirrhosis of the liver. It wasn't a pleasant site to watch let alone the pain he was in. So please find a way. You can always talk with me if you wish.

It doesn’t have to be about a partner. I lost a friend. He made his own exit. My mother struggles. I’m afraid she will too. Some of her struggles she passed on to me. I think about that too. The point of this song is awareness and empathy. It doesn’t propose a solution. It highlights awareness and empathy. Sometimes that’s all it takes. Sometimes they succumb to the illness. All we can do is love them and try what’s in our ability to deliver.
