Well, I think they are paying attention to what happened in the Ukraine. Ukraine expected an increase in their standards of living after the EU association, but it turns out that nobody, except Russia, wants anything to do with them.
Same with Belarus. If they detach from Russia, what are their prospects? Do you think the EU will buy their products or will the EU look for ways to sell them their products?
@@bobak5126 For a country to increase its standard of living they first need to invent and produce something or many, many things that the world wants to buy. Then they need marketing geniuses to convince the world that they need to buy it. Ukraine and Belarus produce nothing that the world wants. Even if they did produce many things that the world wants, they would have to be able to outwit their competitors on the world market. Take the country of Malta for example. Long ago they were poor and had a low standard of living. They had nothing as far as resources and labor go to produce things. What did they do to become a wealthy country? They offered a tax free haven for international investors and corporations if they set up shop and worked from there. This brought in billions of dollars. They made something out of nothing and did not blame other countries or governments, which would have been the easy way out.

It has more Russia behind it than China. Lukashenko was very warm with China in recent years and was wary of Putin and even accuse Russia several times of interfering in his nation. China will lose more if he is remove from power. While Belarus itself has nothing against Russia and many liked Putin.
Russia might say they will support Lukashenko, but in truth they are hoping he will fall and the nation select someone who is more willing to do business with Russia. They are practically neighbors. But Putin will not allow the West to interfere.
