I welcomed Quiet Luxury because to me it meant exactly what I always loved - classic, elegant styles in top-quality, natural-fiber fabrics. Apparently this term had a lot more negative connotations for most people. I’m not interested in looking trendy, only in being well-dressed, according to my own standards and preferences. That doesn’t mean I don’t like trends, I love many of them, generally the less-extreme, more classic ones. This last year that’s meant collared Polo knit tops and contrast-trim items, in the best fabrics and quality I can find, are my favorite trends. I buy wardrobe items for life, so they have to be as timeless as possible.

Sometimes I think women can actually age themselves by sticking to the style rules. I feel if you look good in it and you feel good in it wear it. I’m going to be 60 next year , people usually guess me around 38 or 39. I believe it’s because I don’t follow the rules. I think you look amazing in the strapless vest. So wear it with pride ❤

I agree not to stick to style rules and I am also going to be 60 next year (11 months). No one believes my age when I tell them although I am not getting guessed at 20 years younger like you, I am told I look to be around 10 years younger than I am with people guessing me in my late 40's. I would wear a strapless vest if I found one I loved.

I'm sorry, but there's nothing they can do to a Bermuda short to ever look attractive..they are not feminine or complimentary. ESPECIALLY if your petite and or short. I'm 4'11 and 105..even if we can no longer wear "short" shorts, next best thing is mid length shorts, I think like a 3-5 inch inseam. Much classier that shortie shorts, but much more feminine etc than Bermudas..thank you! And i hope I didn't offend anyone..

Thank you for another interesting and educational video. I have always been inclined towards quiet luxury. It is elegant, timeless, minimalist and most of all, it is forever stylish as opposed to temporarily fashionable..I compare it to wearing a school uniform that I can personalise and jazz up with accessories.. Whereas, no uniform, it's about wealth and rich kids dressing better. Also, one is inclined to buy garments in quality fabrics that are both long lasting and versatile. There are lots of minimalist influencers on RUclips and Instagram who still manage to look unique and outstanding without fashion's bells and whistles.

You have me questioning the meaning of the word TREND. I think it is a word that requires context. And an ambiguous amount of popularity is implied. Also "TRENDING" implies an increase in popularity over a previous period of time.
It seems that trends on this channel are pulled from the context of runways and fashion photography, but I am not clear on the frequency or popularity or changes in popularity. I suspect that some style features are called "trends" when in reality, they are fresh style ideas that are showing up in more than one magazine or runway show. So, is that truly a trend?
I believe a true trend is when a significant percentage of people within a context embrace a trend. So if 20% of people in an office start wearing washable silk blazers instead of tropical weight wool 2-piece suits, that's a trend. So when you talk about trends, it would be helpful to know the context of the trend like what are women wearing to go to musical theatre performances? What are women wearing to 4-star restaurants? What are women wearing on the streets of New York? How are the trends different in Tokyo, Milan, Sydney or Toronto?
I have been fascinated by the YT videos of people walking the sidewalks of Milan's upscale shops. Half the time, I am looking for fresh new ideas and not what's already trending. The other times, I am trying to get a feel for norms and expectations so I don't feel out of place or out of style. It would be helpful to know if those sheer skirts would make a nice party dress for a wedding or if they would look like you were dressed to go to a beach cafe on a tropical vacation. And we should all have an outfit or two ready for a funeral. What is acceptable now? What is the range of trends for business casual vs. formal business? How high can we elevate our outfits to go to the grocery store without looking out of place?
Your comments are the most valuable part of your videos. I am asking for a little more advice framed in useful context.
BTW, I have never seen a person wearing legless pants or sheer skirts in the wild except at the beach in the Chicago area. But wide leg trousers have been widely adopted. Low rise (muffin top) pants and skinny jeans look out of place and are rarely seen. Leggings are only seen at gyms or when people are outside exercising or playing sports. Neck gaiters that can be pulled up to cover ears or control hair are also popular while exercising. Sun dresses seem to be the norm for grocery and outdoor festivals shopping in summer. Those are the trends I see.
I have not been to a wedding in a while. Any advice on what could look elevated without looking like something weird that fell out of a magazine?
Thanks for all your commentary. It's a lot of work and it's appreciated.

Bermuda shorts yes, denim cutoffs no. I’m sick of my fellow Americans love affair with super-short, ragged, butt-exposing denim shorts. I wore those in as a teenager in 1974, time to give them a rest.

I'm one who has loved Bermuda shorts since I was a kid. I'm in my 60s. Although the dark blue denim ones that I ordered from Agolde didn't work out as they were too big, I did find a light blue denim pair from Mango by YNG that was great. And also a dark blue denim pair of Astrid Longline Denim Jorts from Urban Outfitters which have also worked out well. It's easy to style them. Plus, they're cool in hot climates.
I love those metallic jeans that you were wearing, but they would be too long on me as I'm a little over 5'6' (171cm). And the maxi skirt would also be too long. But, there's the shorter more midi skirt that might work although I'm not thrilled about the drawstring waist look. I like fitted waists with zippers. But, maybe I'll give it a try.
    Greetings from Los Angeles

Not doing trends. They just confuse me and add junk to my wardrobe. So important to look for clothes slowly and with method and purpose otherwise you get a wardrobe full of clothes that you don’t wear. Lifestyle lifestyle is a key starting point. Remember there are some trends that become classics along the way. It’s only junk if you purchase low quality junk, so try and purchase some better higher end, classic pieces, and just a few interesting more stylish, mid range pieces that add some personality, and pizazz or you may start looking a bit matronly, and oh dear, nobody wants to go there, especially the older we get. Have some fun and add a bit of sparkle to your wardrobe😉👠👡🥿👛👓👗🥿👢🧣👒💍

I love the fringe, I am a country girl. Regardless I do update these pieces. Luv crochet, the transparent stuff, I’m too old for, but I did wear it back in the day. I collect / thrift antique clutches, I do wear them, but pass them on to my daughter, shortly thereafter. I do luv a good cross body, or slouching bag. I’m 61 & never followed any fashion rules. I wear what ever makes me feel fabulous. That’s becoming more difficult these days, lol.
I congratulate you on far you have come along, I’ve been following you for a long time. I’ve seen your growth, kudos to you.
A unsolicited advice, maybe do a thrift store haul. Some of your sponsors are way up there in prices. Most of use these days, are unable to afford these items.
If you think you may like to offer a cheaper way to obtain fashion I believe your audience may appreciate it.
Many blessings & luv to you and congratulations for coming so far in your community 🎉❤

I don't own many of these. I do have a polo style knit top that could pass for crochet. It's basic and very versatile. I love the idea of bermudas, but I haven't found the formula that flatters me yet. Most people who look good in them have very thin calves and I don't think I do. The key is fooling the eye into appearing to have thin legs--for example if the shorts are at all tight on my thighs it looks frumpy, and where they cut off is key as well. Still trying to make it work.

From memory I think what I was meaning to say but obvs didn't explain myself well enough on that point was that I find pastels so predictable and for this reason I feel they can be ageing. There is often a feeling that as we age and our skin changes colour, pastels are more flattering. While this is true, I feel if you want to create modern, more youthful outfits you need to go a little against the grain and opt for something less predictable. Sorry I didn't explain myself better. It's always hard trying to keep my videos down to a watchable length without rambling LOL

I think you would have to be taller to wear those jeans, or they would look rather frumpy, unless you put on some serious high heels!😂

@@Thestyleinsider.Tall is great. Insults aren’t funny. The pants are too short and dint look right period.

When you transition from summer to autumn outfits when is the last time you'd wear sandals? Also if it gets cold then warm again in late September or early october woud you go back to wearig sandals?

Personally I always go back to wearing sandals if the weather is warm enough but I suppose it's an individual thing really.

I have always felt frumpy in burmudas. While I am slim, I am a bit pear shaped and I feel they are not the most flattering on me. My legs are very toned from daily walking and exercising 3-4 times a week and I always thought a mid length short looked better on me. That being said, I want to give them a try again as I have not tried to wear them in many, many years. There are a lot of cute ones out there that are making me think I should give them another try. Maybe there is a pair for me? I was a bit heavier in my young mom days when I tried to wear them so maybe they will fit me better now?

They def won't be everyone's favourite short but I do think it may be working trying a few pairs on again. Maybe even some of the denim options?
