One thing that I found helpful is to let the mother/calf run back to the herd after doing some damage and the herd is far away. An injured calf is far more slow than the mother and usualy stays behind. You need to be careful and fast though, as the calf can turn around and hit you
One thing I've found a bit helpful is when the calf is hurt it becomes gradually slower than the mother. So what you could do is move away from the elk and let them begin the run to the herd again. Once the mother is a pretty safe distance from the slower calf it is much easier to strike the calf and hold on longer until the mother comes running back. Hope I made sense. :3
@@HollowHiraeth that's true although around 50% of the time the elk calf is not able to kick you until the mother returns, and the elk turning around to face you off in a last-stitch effort is actually helpful, as it presents you with an opportunity to grab the throat.
Oh! Didnt know the calf runs! What I do is go in for a false bite and the mother tends to bolt leaving her calf defensless. Then I go ham on the calf as it usually takes the mother elf a bit of time to turn around to defend her calf.
The fact that you are this amazing at this on accurate, yet i somehow died to a elk on challenging difficulty while i also had a +2 health wolf and a mate-
I usually just go in circles around with the calf and bite the farthest side (not the leg, the shoulder area) so that the mother has a lower chance of hitting me. I also time my bite so that the mother is facing the opposite direction of me. sometimes I don’t get hit at all when hunting, other times i get kicked at least 3-1 times. awesome video.
I’ve been able to hunt low health spikes and cows on accurate mode with some luck and skill. The tricky part is finding a severely weakened one in the herd without taking too much damage testing different elk. My strategy is to make the herd run for a while, and then test the health of an elk that stumbles or falls behind the rest. If you can tire the elk out first they do less damage to your wolf.
Thanks to you I killed two elk on accurate!…but I got lucky..both of them tripped and fell and they were already weak to begin with.. but I killed them.. with little damage!
I was considering making the jump from challenging to Accurate because I found Challenging too easy after taking down two Doe and a Spike Elk in 5 minutes but after watching this I don’t think I’m ready 😅 I have a stellar mate and I usually half cheat this system by correctly picking a weak calf but then allow my mate to do most of the heavy lifting with the calf while I keep the mother from injuring my mate by attacking the doe with Throat grabs and things. This is a fine strategy for Easy and Challenging if you have a bold and energetic mate like I do, as they are rearing to go when it comes to helping with the hunts and totally fearless. You can still end up pretty battered this way if you aren’t careful though since your in range of mama elk’s hooves the entire time in order to keep her from getting to your mate as much as possible.
The first time I played the game, I was using an old pc that took 3 hours to load in the game. I chose accurate mode because I was reckless and thought the people who played accurate mode on RUclips were just being too skittish. Once I loaded in the game, I noticed I started off with 50% hunger. So I went out and found a mother mule deer and a fawn. I went for the fawn first, but got mad at the mom attacking me, so I attacked the mother back. So I switched back and forth from attacking the mother and the fawn, until I died. And that’s why I never played WQ again in accurate until I got a better computer, so it’s worth it to load in the game and die.
Great video! Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Thanks so much! I spent a lot of time on this video so I'm glad the team likes it!
Yeah I definitely agree I watch this like 3 times a day XD

Second attempt at surviving in accurate mode, and I made a successful hunt instantly YES!
Me who literally dies when hunting an adult elk with age perks in challenging mode: *Interesting.*

Sometimes the Elks head will be tilted back and that means they’re badly injured

I’ve been playing WolfQuest for a while now and I know this is how your suppose to take a elk down but I still die...
Always practice, I make practice wolves sometimes so I can learn the basics of the hunt
I’m going to attempt surviving in accurate mode and even try to raise pups! Thank you for the advice on hunting!
Lol I forgot the mother elk could do damage 100+ XD
