The magic of RUclips never ceases to amaze......your movie about the Matchbox kit catalogue from 1984 was like a blast from my past! I was part of the team at the art studio in London that put together the catalogue for 1982 which was very much bigger as it included all the various languages. The artwork for 1982 has been 'carried over' in your movie...what great memories!
Thats amazing.. ive had comments from others who really enjoy seeing the catalogues they had as children and wishing they had certain kits.. I have 1982 in the stash somewhere.. I drag it out and film it at some point. Glad you enjoyed the video If you have a minute Classic car illustrator, can you please subscribe to the channel.. It really helps us with the youtube algorithm.. Happy Modelling
My dad would have loved this catalogue! He loved all of these models! I remember that he did a few with my brother. As his eyes aged, though, he stopped doing them, but continued to admire them!
The Boeing P12-E, Armstrong Whitworth Siskin, Dornier Skyservant, and Noorduyn Norseman. These are a few of my favourite things. I don't think that the 1/76 scale Paratroopers were ever released (I'd have a box if they were). Happy memories from seeing this. Thank you.
absolutely classic. This takes me back to simpler times. I love these remind me a bit about Amelia Earhart writing this. Thanks for sharing this with us. Hope to see more from you after this my friend. Let's stay in touch
They were simple to build and reasonably detailed. I was helping my cousin with his builds cause he was younger than me. But at that time I moved up to building Tamiya kits.
Oh, wow! Just saw this video. I got this catalogue free when I bought a copy of Scale Modeller International in late 1983, I've still got it somewhere in the loft probably! I build a few of these, Hurricane MK11, Corsair (disappointed it was in Korea colours, I remember painting out the red insignia bar!) F86, BAC Jaguar with the strange missiles, Skyservant, Sordfish, Me 410, Lightning (can't remember which one, think it was the T5 with overwing tanks) Hunter (really poor cockpit shape on the T7, didn't look right at all) and the Panther. Haven't built a kit since the late 80s... I feel that's about to change!
They do bring back the memories :) Thank you John Kelly for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't as yet.. It really helps the channel grow.
I was probably still being potty trained then or running around the house shouting He-man and the masters of the universe.. 80's had the best art music comedy and generally just awesome. Really want that airfix Tyrell I sat in that car at good wood.... when I say sat I jumped in and got mrs to take a quick picture 🤣.
Liked that they had some "unusual" subjects: the Norseman, Twin Otter, Skyservant, Alpha Jet, 1/32 Puma. Not too long after, they released an HU-5 Wessex. Glad Revell Germany has released some of these. Still hoping to get the Twin Otter and Puma someday....
I had the Privateer kit and that was lovely, and I remember admiring the Victor but not having the courage to buy that one. Didn't know Matchbox had its own range of paints as well - IIRC the painting guide in the Privateer listed Humbrol paints. I bought that kit new in 1989, so maybe those Matchbox branded paints were out of production by then? I think Revell Germany reissued that Privateer kit a few years ago.
The purple range used to be 75 Pence each, when I was buying them - I actually built the entire Purple Range back in the day apart from my Bogie kit, the Fairey Seafox. That one I finally built this year during Lockdown 1 from an actual Matchbox boxing - not the Revell rebox ;)
I liked matchbox kits they were a good alternative to airfix, they did 3 colour kits which you could just build then apply decals 😁 also i liked the tank kits which came with a little diorama base and sometimes figures
