    The Wii U is definitely a neat system, I loved it but am also aware of the flaws it had. I remember the first night getting it and thinking it would have been perfect if the console was the gamepad itself, which is essentially what they did with the Switch. I still need to mess with all the emulators out there for it but I recently had a spin at some Sm4sh mods for it, character swaps are hilarious and the tools to inject everything are quite easy to use as well.

Write a linux framebuffer driver for the vita. Write a audio driver. Poll the button registers every 1ms. Compile the kernel. Compile android for arm. Copy all that to a memory card. Use the exploit to kexec the linux kernel from the vita kernel. to have android running on your vita without breaking its os. If You can please reply to me it will be cool to have a working android emulator or some other software to make it run.

      3DS is also great to hack because you can put GB/GBC, GBA, NES, and SNES games on it and hacking it is fairly simple using a flash cart which will usually cost around $10, plus you can put DS games into the flash cart making it a handheld system that plays pretty much all handheld Nintendo consoles it’s pretty neat. there’s apps out there too that let you easily put in custom themes straight from the custom themes website (just scan the QR code with your 3DS camera and you don’t even need to take out the SD card!), recording by sending footage through your router and straight to your computer so you can record gameplay without a capture card, and there’s an app for custom badges so you just drop some images into a folder and run it and it gives you badges for the home screen of the images

      I wonder how it handles as a media player, I had some mvk/avi players on my Wii but it couldn't really keep up and would be very jerky and out of sync, it's possible the Wii-U would handle 1080p MVK with ease.

      I actually do own a 3ds with CFW, and am a part of the modding community. The only issue I have is the lack of N64/PSX emulation. This is the exact reason why I'm picking up a psp very soon.
      Yeah, I can agree having the ability to scan QR codes easily to install software is really handy.
      I'm still looking at the switch homebrew currently, currently nothing is optimized, but due to the hardware of the switch, the emulation scene could be really good for the console. Plus the switch being a portable console, you could play Wii games on the go, which would be awesome.

    @themriron2391 5 лет назад +7

    Great video - the Wii U is an incredibly underrated all-in-one homebrew system nowadays. One thing about Wii64 - enabling framebuffer textures fixes a lot of issues and as the Wii U is running at an unlocked CPU speed, it doesn't have an issue (in terms of performance), and with the recent Wii64-RICE (which is still experimental, so it's not perfect) N64 on Wii U is honestly very good.
    Don't forget about the fact that Wii games, with a WiiVC injection, can be played with gamepad controls too - it emulates a Wii Classic Controller - so it is definitely a preferable way to play! Speaking of forgetting, I also forgot about PPSSPP on Wii U until now, so thanks for that.
    The Wii U is definitely one of those overlooked systems which is worth any console hacker's time.

    You didn't even go over one of the best aspects of doing this imo. You can inject your own Wii and Gamecube games into the Wii U's memory, and store them on a Wii U formatted drive. I find this particularly useful since I want to keep all of my installed Wii U games bundled together with the Wii/GC games.

      I think it's a real shame it's a cool little console, but he's probably right about it being poor marketing, they should have sold it as a 'new console' not a 'HD version of something you already have' , I bet that's what turned a lot of people off of getting one.

    Love it. I'm a big fan of the WiiU. The poor marketing and clunky hardware kept people from an amazing game library. As far as exclusives go, it blew the competition out of the water.
    One thing you didn't mention is using it as a streaming box. Sure, everything does Netflix nowadays, but nothing handles those services like the WiiU. The second screen lets you navigate while you're watching, and on some services gives you access to additional details about what you're watching.

    I have the WiiU for over a year now, and I absolutely love it. I think it is very underrated, but it has its flaws too, especially on the gamepad. If there were a button to turn off the gamepad completely it would have been great. It tends to discharge very quickly in a few days, I use to disconnect the battery from the gamepad everytime I don't use it). Another big flaw is the screen, with a resolution too low for it. I dream about a revised gamepad with 720p ips capacitive screen... But of course this would never happen. Another hassle is about the power delivery of the USB ports, which is too low. Hard drives and even the ssb GameCube controller adapter have to use two USB ports for them to work!

    I definitely love my hacked Wii U, but my biggest complaint is that there's no good media player (something like Kodi/XBMC) for the homebrew. I get that the Switch being broken pretty wide open has probably pulled the vast majority of the talent in that direction--and that's not something I'm complaining about given that I have a hackable Switch--but I'm always wanting to recreate the glory days of the OG modded Xbox with XBMC on it. After those amazing times, it's hard to settle for less.
