The President of the USA is the commander in chief of the armed forces. That position should have the same rules as the generals in the military have in terms of age. A general is not allowed to serve beyond the age of 68. This rule should be for ALL elected and appointed federal officials.

My dad at 80 who was suffering from Dementia and Parkinsons thought he could still drive, he had no business driving he did not even know where he was. People suffering from age deficiencies do not realize their own condition.

I feel for you. It is hard. I also had to take car keys from a dementing family member, but what Biden has, is a speech impediment, which he has had for 50 years in public life, and not dementia. I have taught students with speech impediments and dealt with dementia two very different things.

The polls show Kamala is very close (and in places ahead) of Biden; additionally, she immediately turns the "too old to serve" in Trump's face. I love Joe Biden to death. He was my commencement speaker and gave a hilarious speech. When we interacted with him later he was sharp as nails. When my uncle, who is a famous neurologist, saw him a year ago he took one look and said the guy has Parkinson's disease. Any semi-competent neurologist would come to the same conclusion. He observed that for a person with such a progressive disease stress is the #1 cause of disease acceleration. Biden's family are doing him great disservice by not allowing him to step down. On surface it may sound good, but, lots of people don’t travel abroad all their lives and don’t have a passport, and many don’t have their birth certificate. Drivers license doesn’t prove citizenship. So it could used for voter suppression of poor people and also would tax government offices who would have to provide a lot of birth certificate copies which can take an incredibly long time due to red tape. I’m a naturalized citizen. I misplaced my naturalization certificate once and applied for a new one. That was more than 20 years ago, and I remember it took like 9 months to get a copy!!!! Likely it’s gotten faster since then, but, you’d be effectively preventing legitimate citizens from voting, many of whom would have to wait months for a copy of their birth certificate. Fast passports cost extra and normal passport applications take not an insignificant amount of time. It’s just a voter suppression technique. Same as when they had reading and writing requirements before in history to keep blacks and other underprivileged from voting in the past. Just another hurdle. Just my opinion - my guess why some would be against it.
It's better for Democrats when the vote is not secure. The bill passed the house without them. Now it's up to Schumer. Let's see what he does.
