SIR NIGEL HAWTHORNE RIP Nigel was a close friend since I was 13 years old. He was my mentor and helped me when I joined British Actors Equity. In the 1970's he lived opposite me in Witherington Road,N5. During the many years I spent as friend I met many great actors including Kenneth Griffith. Who told me many great stories of his life and his journey from Wales. I am blessed in many ways. I had tea with Nigel and his then partner Bruce who worked as a set designer on THE MUPPETS SHOW. I saw Nigel in Shadowlands at trhe Queens Theatre and the last time e met was on RICHARD III film. When he appeared at the Barbican as KING LEAR I sent him flowers for his first performance. Miss this great and lovely man.
He lived in a different world, a different era of respect and integrity. I wonder what he would make of todays world. He was perhaps lucky to get off it when he did.
The first time I witnessed Nigel Hawthornes great talent was in the original production of Privates On Parade as Colonel Giles Flack in which he absolutely shone. I have seen many productions of this brilliant play since and nothing has come near that RSC version which was perfect in every way. Nigel Hawthorne was one of our most gifted character actors who finally achieved world recognition in The Madness Of George III in which he reached the pinnacle of his craft. A masterclass performance etched in my theatre going memory. He left this world far too soon but left behind a substantial body of work for us all to remember and admire.
I saw him in the London, West End run of this play. He was absolutely magnificent. He should have done the movie instead of Anthony Hopkins. Check out Nigel Hawthorne’s other work in TV’s Yes, Minister & Yes, Prime Minister. Also, the TV series “The Fragile Heart”. All available for free on RUclips. A phenomenal actor.
Hahahahah!, My goodness, I simply can't stop seeing and hearing Sir Humphrey Appleby, (from Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister), getting an award for best actor. God Bless Nigel Hawthorne, he was a fantastic actor.
I love Demolition man and I read why Mr. Hawthorne was in it. But I always find it bizarre seeing a celebrated stage actor like him appear in a movie like that
He struggled for 30 yrs till he got his big break in yes minister.... can you Blive 30 fking yrs...... he just couldnt turn down a job especially in a hollywood film
@@anuradhajoshi7389 While I am sure that's all valid info, for him it wasn't a matter of passing up opportunities. He did Demolition Man as a means to get more exposure in Hollywood, and maybe even help him gain more popularity to play the lead in the Madness of King George movie. Regardless of what his reasons were, seeing him in Demoition Man just seems out of place. Nevertheless, I love Demolition Man
He hated Demolition Man, thought the two leads were egotistical and pretty lousy actors. The way they treated the set and crew by all accounts was shocking.
There were enough hints at it but the social climate was very different. The pre-Social Media age was wonderful, I just cannot stand attention whores and (sadly) they're an ever growing menace.

You are a lucky guy to meet a legend.
Grew up watching Yes Minister in the 80s. Amazing series. Brings back memories. RIP sir!
RIP Sir Nigel Hawthorne (April 5, 1929 - December 26, 2001), aged 72
You will always be remembered as a legend.

Madly miss this man!
He really nailed it in the Madness of King George! RIP Nigel! And of course Yes Minister
Nigel Hawthorne was the most amazing actor to see on stage.
(And Courtney B Vance was amazing in six degrees of separation.)
What a good acceptance speech. And so good of him to make a prominent mention of his co-star, Jane Alexander, who wasn't even nominated.

Marco Molbeck
I see Giorgino from Mapp and Lucia.
That's because he played it so, so well- he owned that character. Such a fine actor x
All class Sir Nigel Hawthorne, a phenomenal actor, should have worked more in the US than he did. R.I.P Sir Humphrey Appleby, Doctor Baranovich
Is there any way to watch Shadowlands? I love cs lewis and nigel hawthorne and would be a dream to watch it.
R.I.P. NIGEL 😔😔
In Loving Memory Of Sir Nigel Hawthorne AKA Professor Archimedes Q. Porter (1929-2001)
He should have gotten a Saturn Aware for his performance as Raymond Cocteau in Demolition man
He does voices of Fflewddur Fflam and Professor Porter
Tarzan Is My Favourite Disney Film
He went too soon.
Stefan G. Bucher 😞😞😞💔💔💔💔💔💔
Looking at the photo, I thought it was Mel Brooks.
Humpy!

Even in the 90'ties they were normal and charming, who would guessed they a few decades later should turn into disgusting, hateful lunatics?
