Wow. That brought tears to my eyes, beautiful video. Truly shows how amazing the CrossFit community is and all that it stands for. Nice job media team!
Oh, have Josh Bridges commentate and interview athletes since he's not in the games. He'd be a great personality and people would watch just to hear him commentate, thank you.
A little over 3 and a half years ago, I would have watched this video and not understood why it was so powerful. A little over 3 and a half years later, I watch it and I am filled with so many emotions by it. Thanks for making me cry like a baby, then look crazy by laughing and cheering, followed by tears of joy, Crossfit!!!
Fantastic video. I am a crossfitter also. Seeing this makes me proud and honored to be a part of this truly amazing athletic community. 3...2...1... GO!!!
If you asked me to watch this a few weeks ago, I would have laughed and not taken it seriously. I used to be a Crossfit hater. That all changed when I decided to try METCONs and Crossfit WODs. I also can appreciate the Crossfit community and how they all encourage each other. Crossfit is here to stay, whether people like it or not. I like that it will :)
People talk about Rich Froning all the time. But Josh Bridges has inspired me the most. With Rich, he makes everything look ridiculously easy and impossible for others to achieve whereas Josh makes it look possible for people like me who aren't genetically gifted and will have to make their way with sheer hard work. Really sad that Josh did not qualify.
Yadu Shekhawat Lmao dude. I'm not sure why you think he isn't genetically gifted? He was at the top of the game last year. He may be a little short, but he is by no means lacking in genetic potential. To be at the top like this you have to have the correct composition of slow and fast twitch fibers, specifically in certain muscle groups, you need lactate threshold potential, VO2 max potential, etc. If you don't think Josh is gifted beyond belief then you are a damn fool. The people at the games in the top 10 have been genetically selected by CrossFit itself. The closer you get to the top, the more genetically similar everyone becomes. Now, if you're looking for somebody to give you some motivation, you may could find someone at the bottom of a regional standing that is slightly less gifted genetically than the majority of the field. No one, I repeat, no one gets to the top of any sport without loads of genetic potential. Whether its CrossFit or Table Tennis.
Buzz Killington Chill bro. I was just saying that in comparison to other competitors he has lesser means. But he has the heart of a lion. And i strongly disagree with you on the point that no one gets to the top of any sport without loads of genetic potential. If you don't have heart, the genetic potential counts for nothing. But anyways i don't mean no disrespect for Josh Bridges. And I don't need anyone else to motivate me, Josh Bridges is enough.
+Magdalena Grzenkowicz That is Brent Fikowski. He missed qualifying for the Games by one spot for two straight years. It almost made me cry just thinking of what he went through. I hope he gives it another go next year. The guy has an engine for days.
Crossfitters! I mean no hate whatsoever and greatly enjoy watching these competitions, but I have some concerns that have always held me back from Crossfit that I'm hoping someone can positively explain for me. 1- Why are all nationwide WODS set to a standard lifting weight and not based on a bodyweight % system? It seems that certain athletes have HUGE advantages in certain events strictly based on their size. This is a big deal to me personally because I am highly competitive, but don't feel I'd have any chance with my current physique at 5'11 and 154ish lbs. 2- How are partner deadlifts a good idea, and can I substitute anything else for certain "WODS"? The sight of seeing 2 individuals at differing heights, body-weights, and usually gender is fuckin' awesome visually, but the risk/reward ratio appears massive to anyone less than an advanced crossfitter. Thanks in advance for any responses. - Curious weightlifter
***** Thanks for your response, Charlie, but unfortunately that isn't quite the answer I was shooting for. Rather, I was referring to the heavy weights and advanced lifts. For example., I saw the first regional of Frasier and Froning, which was epic, and at the very end Frasier missed his last rep at an insanely heavy weight. I'm not aware of their exact body measurements, but if I recall, Frasier is significantly smaller than Froning and most athletes. However, he is still measured to the same standards. Why are there no weight classes or adjustments for fairness? Frasier is an absolute MONSTER if you look at his weight lifting volume vs. body weight %, and I'm convinced he not only IS "the fittest man in the world", but WAS even last year.
***** So, what I'm essentially getting at, is that I think my numbers could at least be regionally competitive % wise, but no way will I have be doing Olympic lifts at over 330 lbs with my current weight. (Which I'm very content with, not in like a cocky way, but I tried bulking and have 100x more energy at this weight.)
Edmund Ong You do make some valid points, Edmund, but I still think it is unbalanced. These are just a few examples based on my limited knowledge- 15.5 men use 95lbs, women use 65 lbs., 15.4 men use 185lbs, women use 125 lbs., 15.2 men use 95 lbs, girls use 65 lbs., 15.1 men use 115 lbs, girls use 75 lbs. So, that is 4/5 open events that rely on a standard weight. Now, I completely understand these are weights MOST people can healthily manage and it gives incentive to push your limits, BUT in a competition where numbers and times are LIFE, even these light numbers will have a DRASTICALLY larger effect on athletes' endurance overtime. All I'm saying, is that I'd feel a lot more inclined to compete if I felt it were a TRULY fair battle.
Edmund Ong 15.3 was the only event strictly based on bodyweight. So, if they mixed bodyweight WODS to olympic lift WODS anywhere close to 50%, that seems to be a bit more fair as well.
Julie Foucher clip and the Josh Bridges clip. Had me to tears. So well done Crossfit!
Josh Bridges......so many of us are going to miss you this year.
My heart breaks when I see his face after
He killed it this year, especially in Murph!
Wow. That brought tears to my eyes, beautiful video. Truly shows how amazing the CrossFit community is and all that it stands for. Nice job media team!
I think every good athlete can sympathize with the emotions that bridges was feeling in that clip.
For those of you wondering, the song is called
Rise by Tony Anderson
Oh, have Josh Bridges commentate and interview athletes since he's not in the games. He'd be a great personality and people would watch just to hear him commentate, thank you.
