A local trail hike with the kids. For publication in our local paper- The Union www.theunion.com Music: Instrumental Guitar by local musician Jonathan Meredith
love your adventures with the kids as grew up in sacramento and reminds me how we explored ever waterway also enjoy your other flights cuz i have so much experience with boeing 10 yrs doing landing gear on 737, ty for all you do
Another great video Juan. Another day out with the kids, a memory they will cherish for ever. You and your wife are doing a great job of raising your children!
Beautiful !! 1200 feet down and then back up. That's a days workout.......Years ago we did the Bruce trail end to end. Carried our oldest about a third of it. We'd look at the days hike and decide which end was lower and park one car there and then drive to the higher end and start there.
Your on-going trip/adventure has made me remember how beautiful Northern California is. I am going to have to take a few days from Sonoma and retrace your trail. You and your wife's kids are wonderful to watch and so "normal" in their exploration of simple things.
Did the kids go to bed early and sleep that night ? Remember "The Ten Essentials" by the Seattle Mountaineers... The Day Pack (or book bag) with "The Ten Essentials" will keep you safe overnight and bring you home the next day. Started taking short day hikes (one to two hours only) on flat ground for the past week and misplaced a few pounds... by the ditch bank and/or Rio Grande. Thank you for the video ! tjl
You're scaring me with the kids that far ahead of you on that narrow trail. Almost lost mine on a trail like that when he was about that age. Luckily, a fellow hiker snagged him at the last second. Never let him get too far from reach after that. Also cringed at the creek crossing. As I recall, those rocks can be slick as snot if any algae grows on them. Learned that the hard way. Don't live out there anymore, and I sure do miss the area.
Such Beautiful & Precious children you have there. Wonderful to see A family of LOVE on an outing together walking such a beautiful trail. Something that is so simple & yet will bring memories that will last your remaining lifetimes. I sure miss the times when my own children were young at home & I & my Wife could do things like this. GBY & your wonderful Family, & Thank you SO MUCH, for sharing this day with us! Love them Babies while you can, because they will be grown & gone, with their own families before you know it. But memories of days like this will be with you all LONG AFTER THEY HAVE LEFT YOUR HOME>
What a lovely family you have there, what fun! You make me envious, I would go through it all again... in a heartbeat! THAT is what life should be all about, family friends and fun. Thank-you Juan.
Have a friend who has a Robinson R22 and a piece of property up in that canyon. It was very marginal with that little Lyc io-320. The trout were literally starving. The kids will be so bored at Disney World. bp
I don't know if it would be possible for your kids to get any cuter. Tell you something they sure are getting some great adventures and learning along the way. Teach them young. Skills and great memories to last a lifetime. Nice footage.
there's a lot of dis info going around again about the dam .. cant wait for a new update .. by all means enjoy your family , i sure enjoy the daily vlog format ..
I'm dissapointed you didn't run the KTM down this trail. ;-) Maybe next time. Thanks for sharing......................... and YES, I know this is a hiking only trail.
"Watch yo' step" is RIGHT, wow! Thx for sharing this wonderful family bonding experience, Juan. Appreciate the history tidbits. Seeing things thru the kids' eyes is a special treat too. Always a treasure to view your videos! Happy Trails to you all 😎👍
That's a gorgeous hike! As a parent, it's also a SCARY hike! If Pete were MY five year-old he would be wearing a harness and would be attached to my belt loop by a ten-foot nylon rope! However, I'm sure that your way promotes Pete's sense of independence more than my way would.
Always enjoy your videos and narration. I am a Southern California native but have never explored that area. So great to see the family really enjoying the great weather too. A big shout out to guitarist Jonathan Meredith on his rendition of an oldie but goodie "The Mama's & Papa's" "Dream a little dream of me " if I am not mistaken. Keep 'em coming.
We need many more beautiful and charming interludes like this in our world that is so frequently awful. Thank you, Juan Browne, to you and your whole family, for sharing this with us. It leaves a lasting, warm glow!
It looks like Juan's daughter has the knack for explaining and teaching too. Except it looks as though she's into ichthyology. It's also nice to see kids being taught how nature works, in nature itself. It makes them smarter and stronger and tougher.
Great video Juan,I love the Stephens trail.used to walk it often, bout the only people we ever saw though were miners and those who like to hide, either from law enforcement or just from life.a friend told me that mine has a vertical shaft in the floor of that main tunnel.so be careful in there.not sure of the truth in it though, but this friend knew I don't enter old mines period,so I'm sure he wasn't telling me to try to scare me ( wouldn't have worked anyway) lol
Outstanding video. Always good to get the kids outside in the fresh air, with a good helping of dirt, bugs, and creek water. I about fell over laughing when you said "Chinamen". I'm waiting for the Sensitivity Police to come haul you away for Political re-Education! Of course never mind that it's an authentic term, which the Chinese miners & workers coined themselves in the early 1850's. 😂
Terrific hike, great family time, and I love the Breitling hats - truly a pilot's family!! Thanks for sharing your precious family time and a beautiful place.
OK, It's a question of balance: too much protection VS not enough. Obviously what you achieved for the children was brilliant as they had a wonderful and safe time. And, judging by the comments, most of your viewers have a similar intuitive "common sense" regarding children's safety. I'm guessing that safety has been part of the children's outdoor life forever so that no new discussion was apparent this time out. Can you tell me something about this? I would probably be overprotective and it's time to go into the forest with my grandchild now that he's 4... ?? Thanks
The "Instrumental Guitar" is *_Dream a Little Dream of Me,_* a song dating from the early 1930s, though the version I'm most familiar with is sung by Mama Cass Elliot of the Mamas and the Papas, recorded in the 1960s: ruclips.net/video/fJwjLYRPxJY/видео.html And both the Mama Cass and Meredith versions are lovely, aren't they.
Looks like a lot of fun , a day on the trail . Just being out with the family , enjoying the great outdoors! I want to know Juan, did you make the 4 mile trek ? lol! Thanks again for another great adventure, cheers.
Nice to see kids allowed to explore their capabilities. Most parents today are sissies.

Does Pete know how lucky he is?
A lot of us do...
These little children are as sure footed as mountain goats. Lovely wildfowers, spectacular Juan, thank you.
Pete's hat was on straight, his head was turned the wrong way. Nice area, nice video. Tx.

I’ve done this trail about a dozen times but as I get older I realize how dangerous it is, so I don’t do it anymore.

That's a nice trail, we used to ride down there and go swimming 20 years ago before it was overrun with people
Never been on Stevens trail, but I spent a lot of time down on Yankee Jim, and Shirt tail canyon.
Beautiful. Thank you for these journeys into places I never got to see :)
Outstanding video. Always good to get the kids outside in the fresh air, with a good helping of dirt, bugs, and creek water.

Is the river accessible right now? Looking to do this hike this weekend and worried about the trail being cutoff with recent high temps.
Yep!
Awesome, how fast was it flowing? Possible to get in for a quick dip before starting the hike back to the car?
It's ragin' cold and clear...

Juan, link to the musician's music?

so Nice...the Juan Family hiking in The Natural Beauty of Northern California is AAAAAAA+++++++++
