    12 classic tracks on an album is the way to go, 2 sides of 6, well balanced and you flip the record over then side 2 blows you away. Classic vinyl experience.

    I'm actually glad Chisel didn't go Worldwide. They are a hidden gem and everyone around the world that I've introduced them to have been blown away. America in the 80's had no idea about this unique blend of rock . They were Australia's premier band without a doubt.

      yes, yes and yes. So many huge songs, but all the fillers are classics as well.
      Never Before should have been a single...ITA ...(which i had the dubious honour of singing to Ita ... from the sidecar of a speeding motorcycle , both of us drunk, speeding up William st in the cross. We were beside ITa and her hubby in their swish BMW. IT seemed like the right thing to do !!

  • @shakespeare_hall4788
    @shakespeare_hall4788 9 лет назад +14

    Ah yes !
    Australia has produced some of the most kick arse bands the world has ever and will ever see or hear !...AC/DC are perhaps the most successful world wide and are still going they are up there with the rolling stones for world recognition !
    but aca daca have a niche of heavy rock !
    then we have COLD CHISEL they were and still are ( IMO ) Australias nunber one premier band their writing production and performance were unmatched ! not to mention their ability to reflect the Aussie soul so accurately !
    Yes there are a few who could stand toe to toe with them like INXS , rose tattoo , and perhaps the Angels or hunters and collectors .
    Just tonight i watched a show on TV and this music producer from Atlantic records in the USA said back in the 80's there wasn't an American band that could come close to an Aussie band !
    Ah yes Cold Chisel coloured my youthful years ! they were the rhythm and the passion !

    Amazing talent along with creative and personal tensions created driven and timeless music. So what if the rest of the world were somehow deprived of Cold Chisel? Their loss!
    Don Walker is a genius. Ian Moss is amazing. Steve Prestwich was a star and Barnesy is one of a kind. Together with Phil Small they were, and are, so much greater than the sum of their parts - incredible as this may seem.
    Listen to Last Wave of Summer - almost as good as EAST.

      ***** Saw Cold Chisel live over here in New Zealand at The Dunedin Town Hall on September 24th 1983. I was about 5 weeks short of my 20th birthday. Went on a bus trip with a mate and it was one of the best I've had in my entire life. I was really in to Cold Chisel and 2 other Aussie outfits; 'Icehouse' and 'The Angels' of whom I also saw at the same venue in '84 and '87. I so preferred Aussie rock bands to Kiwi rock bands. However nothing beats seeing Pink Floyd live at Wembley Stadium on August 6th 1988 when I was in London on my big O.E. (overseas experience from NZ). That gig blew my mind and I was straight and sober for the first and only time I was there (6 months). I also saw a favourite band of mine 'The Screaming Blue Messiahs' at a local pub venue (September 2nd Harlesden Mean Fiddler, London) just around the corner from where I was dossing at a Kiwi house/flat. That gig was so loud I could barely hear for 3 days afterwards...Fate struck me down in 1990 when I had my near-death motorcycle accident back in NZ at the age of 26 that resulted in me becoming a hemipelvectomy (entire left leg amputee at the highest level i.e. left hip joint and left side of my pelvis was amputated). V. fortunate to live from that fall from grace. Still love motorcycles. For once I had failed to apply the creed' 'Live to Ride, Ride to Live. I had a heavy addiction to the need 4 speed. Crashed at over 200 clicks (km). Though as Billy Joel sings; 'Only The Good Die Young'.

      Big Fella In my last year at high school (1980) I 'went out' with my first high school girlfriend - she was in my home class in Form 6. I played on the wing in the 1st XV, won the school cross country, and was athletics champion. I was a city slicker and she was a country gal. Lasted 10 months. I took her to a live gig from New Zealand band Mi-Sex held in the Invercargill Town Hall. We were both 17. Man did that gig go off. Mi-Sex keyboards player and also from Invercargill, Murray Burns believed it was one of their loudest gigs ever.

      Paul EJ I think smashing up the set of the TV Week Rock Awards in 1981 did them no favours in terms of commercial success. But it did cement a fantastic 'bad-boy' reputation. Can you imagine INXS doing something like that?

    • @wighto73
      @wighto73 7 лет назад +1

      tbh I reckon it probably did the boys better. Despite being a much better band and producing superior music Chisel are still sane and the majority of them still alive. Fame internationally does have a big price and takes a lot to handle. I'm sure the boys have a life of luxury and enjoy it immensely. They certainly give the impression they are content in their lot. Look at the comparison INXS went out of fashion when grunge came in and Michael went solo and what's her name took control and he ended his life very sadly. Chisel had I don't know exactly but I reckon a 20 year hiatus and got together and now play together with fresh vigour and as mates!

    1980 was one shit hot year for albums in Australia. This probably the best , and we had Radiation by the Radiators, Back in Black -AC/DC, Dark Room -The Angels and the classic Bird Noises from Midnight Oil among others.

  • @andrewreynolds3133
    @andrewreynolds3133 5 лет назад

    this really is a great Oz studio album, and in terms of production value, right up there with Flowers' Icehouse, AC/DC's Back in Black, Hunters' Human Frailty and The Triffids' Born Sandy Devotional, even given the contrasting music styles. However damning all post-internet music as Justin Bieber crap really does show a lack of awareness of some of the great modern music out there. Gary Clark Junior has been one of my great recent finds, together with Vanessa Fernandez - esp. her Zeppelin covers which are astonishing. Now I guess it's normal to think things were better back in the day, but in many respects, things were worse, a whole lot worse, especially for women in music, including the roadies. However as a Melbourne lad, what I do miss is the vibrant pub music scene. Things probably aren't worse now, just different. That's life. Personally I've been a Chisel fan from the start & still rate their eponymous first album as their equal best, together with Circus Animals. But I still have a place in my heart for the East album & still have my copy on vinyl and a crappy record player to enjoy it on. And yes, I rate Mossy as Oz music's best guitarist and one of our best singers and Don Walker as probably our best songwriter.

    Australian reggae/ska is weird innit? Nobody ever talks about it but fuck it's the whitest of white reggae. I kinda still don't get it after 46 years of living but hey Aussie Crawl, The Models, Men At Work, INXS & many others had a bit of it and they're all great.

      Hi Mrs Frisby, Welcome to Cold Chisel heaven.
      Your analysis of Jimmy Barnes is interesting. From rumours he was blessed to be born with 2 sets of vocal chords which allows him to abuse his voice for hours beyond what most people are capable of at high pitch and volume. Interestingly, his son was lucky enough to be born with the same gift and uses it in a more sublime way on Broadway musicals.
      Enjoy the music

    I like how you can look at the cover and pretend that's what Barnesy is doing in "Never Before"

      I don't think so. Stay tuned, though. Since you've asked for it, I'll try to find it and see if I can upload it in its entirety.

      I only uploaded the initial piece, pal. No bonus tracks. Sorry.

      ***** Don't apologise. Not really a big fan of the 'previously un-released bonus tracks' tacked on the end of a classic album. If an album is ever re-released, it should be done so in its original form, in my humble opinion. Thanks for uploading.

      Duane Ferguson No issue, then. I'm glad I did the best in my upload. Cheers, pal :)

      Ahhh bonus songs! Sorry guys, been through 2 copies of the album and they both had them on there so just presumed (do have the original on vinyl but it's beings used as a poster in my bedroom). Don't be hating on the songs though. The party's over is a beautiful piece of music! :) Thanks all the same for the upload!

      Not a problem. In looking up the information for you, I've only just learned about the 'International' version of the album, which included 'Khe Sanh' in the track listing, and dropped 'Ita' and 'Four Walls'. Read on, learn, and enjoy :)

    From the era before internet and all bands sound the same. Cold Chisel were the pinnacle. Skyhooks were more innovative. Half of these songs are Ian Moss. Back in the day, you could say a song was Yank, Pom, or Aussie. Now they're all Justin Beiber or Beyonce crap. No difference between the lot. And not a scrap of talent between the blanket load of them. Shit. time i sat down.

      Most if not all of the early stuff was written by Don Walker not Mossy

      Peter Nicholson Not familiar with your tastes but give Angus and Julia Stone a listen. Real songs. Great live. Harmonies. Great muso’s. They tick all the boxes for me.
