I owned a 2015 base Cayman with optional sports suspension. Wonderful car. I am now in a 2016 Cayman GTS and it is def no more fun than the base Cayman. Go base and safe $$$!!!
I love my brand new 2015 Boxster S PDK (981) since day one. Fast forward 9 years later (5,100 miles) and still put a smile on my face every single time I get behind the wheels. Love driving up the those curvy roads in the rockies…
True that! For me the 981 has also a much better sound than a 911 base model. This car simply is an antidepressant and gives you an instant smile on your face when you turn it on!
I test drove a Boxster and 911 at the dealer and bought the Boxster (6 cyl.). I have been to two Porsche track days, swapping between a 718S/911S and the performance difference wasn’t at large as you would expect. The 718 felt confident in the corners and easier to drive fast, most of the 911 owners felt the same way. Let’s face, for a lot of drivers, the 911 is the dream car, Porsche knows it and charges for it.
I was going to get a 996 when they were cheap as dirt a couple years ago. Missed that. Then I thought about a nice 944. But why do that when you can get a really nice older Boxster for not much more. I decided that I just have to vacation with my BMW because I obviously can't fit the Lady and the 50-lb dog into a Boxster but I have to have a Porsche with a flat 6 behind me before I die.
Just got 2014 981 Boxster Base PDK at $35K, with no major option packages but just Sport Chrono at 60K miles. Single square exhaust tip and halogen lights look horrible, but I'm extremely happy with my very first 2 seater mid engine convertible sport car and enjoying driving after work every day with top open to feel direct sun light, wind, speed, and flat 6 sounds roar behind me. Thanks!

The Boxster is an honest car. It doesn’t pretend to be something it is not. It is true to Porsche’s roots. The first Porsche was midengined and early cars like the 550 relied on lightweight rather than a big engine. Buy and enjoy the open air. Don’t worry about what others might think.
Agree I bought base...had 5months it get so many looks being 8 yrs old. Thinking getting S now cause I like speed. But it's a great car handles well around corners...sometimes I just want find reason to drive it.
@@thefreedomguyuk ok..have you drove a 718? I wonder how much faster it drives. I put the sprint booster on my 981 base and it accelerate much quicker, major difference.
@@jamesf3801 i test drove almost all 718 versions including the GTS 4.0 - the 718 feels faster and better handling in almost every model even the base 718. the lighter 4cyl engine and the turbo make it really fast. the 4.0 with a ridiculous 4 liter 400hp engine destroys almost every 911 outside the GT or turbo region it's ridiculously fast. however it is the only 718 model i'd take due to the fact it's the only 6 cylinder. the 4cyl versions simply do not have that porsche vibe for me.. simply doesn't sit well with me, i will rather keep the 981 until it rusts away or i die since the 4.0 GTS is too expensive for me.
I have a '13 981 Base w/ 6sp and as far as I'm concerned the 981 was the sweet spot in the Boxster lineup. My dealer tried to talk me into a 718 but I encountered turbo lag and that killed any deal. The "S" was better but we could not agree on price while they low balled me on my 981. So this car has a permanent place in my garage. This year I added wireless AA/Carplay and a backup camera
Take them through the twisties, that’s what they’re designed for. Chrono, sport plus with Porsche sports exhaust would have you explaining those options are needed.
Enjoyable review, thank you. Am completely with you, owning a 2013 S fully loaded, I swear it is a blast to drive and would never be replaced by a 4-cylinder 718 no matter what. Here in Germany we say, the Boxster is 100% fun as is the 911 but @ 50% of the cost only :-)
Liked and subbed. I hope your channel takes off because you have a nice honest way about yourself that is refreshing. You summed up all my thoughts on the Boxster range having owned several. They excel at everything and are all about the top down driving experience. Performance to spare and looks that kill. The perfect car.
Well humans are not there to make you happy rather to be themselves which can be the extreme opposite to happiness, 981 Porsche is their to make you happy p, pure antidepressant.
I have a 981 Cayman which is more than enough to get into trouble get your license suspended all that good stuff on the city and in the canyon. Would that said to really enjoy the S, GTS GT4 GT4 RS etc those will be need to be driven on the track. Simple as that. On the freeway in traffic or in the canyons wide open our max speed matches their max speed. End of story. On the track we lose but we still have just as much fun 🤙
3:00 i would not 100% agree on that. It surely isn't fast compared to let's say a GTS or newer turbo models - but i wouldn't say it is not fast - i think that depends on what you are used to. if it is your first sports car or even your first car with a bit more hp than what i call a "i have a car"-car - then it surely will feel quick for you. also it is not very heavy and handles good which tricks you into thinking it is a lot more agile for the hp it has. if you know what i'm talking about
Fun watching this video. Sadly, I hardly drive my 2016 981. I put 120,000 on my 2003 987. I don't even have 24,000 on my car. Have base with the S wheels, navigation, and PDK, as I used to drive the 101 through downtown LA daily, and I thought maybe it's time for no shifting in stop & go. Miss the manual transmission now that I'm not driving much. But PDK and Manual shift in Sport produces nice farts when I lift off the gas. Moving to Europe after some structural repairs to my home and want to take my car with me, even though I really don't need it, but I'm having a hard time letting go.
Correct me if I’m wrong... 981 without PASM does not stiffen the suspension by pressing the Sport button. I previously owned a 2013 Base (No Chrono, No PASM, No PSE) and currently have a 2014 S (Chrono, PASM, PSE, PCCB, etc).
Yes, I think you're correct. This Boxster doesn't have PASM but it does have PSM, which I believe is enhanced by engaging sport mode (according to some forums out there). Thank you!!
I bought mt 2014 Cayman Base 3.5 years ago. Everything he says about it is so true. It’s not fast but very quick and nimble, so functional too. Driving is so exhilarating and the sound is intoxicating. I am planning on having the PSE installed. It has PSM and believe you can feel it too
Man your narrative is so good! I can listen you for hours! Thank you! I am between 987.2 boxster, 981 boxster or 997 911 cabrio. Which one would you pick? After this video looks like one of the boxster =))
I would argue that the Boxster S is the better overall sports car but also take into account your own preference. In the end, both are solid sports cars.
It’s funny how people justify getting an inferior product because of personal preferences, then attempt to convince everyone else that speed doesn’t matter in a sports car.

As a driver's car for challenging twisty roads, the Boxster and Cayman beat the 911. It's sports car perfection.
The car specs out the same as the 911. I didn't hear about air cooled problems. Should be fun enough on the mid cape. Has a good sound.
Perfect review. Just the right amount of information and personal touch. Thanks!

Balanced handling is everything. Which is why most people can drive a Booster faster than they can drive a 911.
