  • As the Celestials role expands in the MCU and Marvel's current Judgement Day event, it's an interesting time to consider how they've connected to mutants and the X-Men, and what those connections tell us about stories to come.
The Celestials are one of Jack Kirby's most fascinating contributions to the Marvel Universe (and it's a long list!). The enigmatic alien space gods - more modular robot than Greco-Roman deity - entered relatively late in Marvel's Bronze Age as part of Kirby's Eternals, but have subsequently been integrated heavily into the fabric and foundations of all of Marvel's shared universe.
+ Did the Celestials create mutants? Why does it matter?
+ Are any mutants closely connected to the Celestials?
    And more!

one of the things i was hoping marvel would do more of is stories of the kree and skrull eternals. possibly some kree deviants or do they even exist?

Skrull deviants exists. There the current species of the Skrull empire. Apparently they won the war against the skrull eternals. I have not heard anything about the kree deviants but I knw a few of the kree eternals. I don't think the shiar has any

I remember 2 other connections between mutants & Celestials.
I forget which issues, but in Uncanny X-Men there was a story where X-Men first discover a group of mutants within the Skrull race. I think this story is where they discover that Celestials would go to various worlds early and make three different groups= deviants, eternals and one smaller group that had the potential of mutation. First two would go and make their own civilizations outside the main race that spawned them, while the later would rejoin the main race to 'seed' it for change.
There is one story I hope we see that it has some ramifactions in current Judgement Day ... but I'm not holding my breath on it. there was a time a handful (or perhaps 2 handfuls) of mutants were exposed to one certain Celestial object that changes one to their cosmic potential. I'm speaking of the Black Vortex. Most mutants changed by it, later on rejected the powers and was "returned to almost normal". I say almost because this object was said to be able to change the person somehow in a more permament way even after rejecting the power. This change could be mental or some aspect of physical.
Young Jean mentions this when she says that Young Cyclops has something changed mentally, yes that was after he no longer had the Celestial power-up.
At end of this story arc, only two mutants still had the Celestial power-up=
Young Angel= who had energy wing
Kate (still Kitty back then) Pryde= whose cosmic level power allowed her to transend the multiverse and gave her a more ethereal form.
we saw Young Angel with energy wings several times after this. I'm not sure if the power faded away as it did with Gamora, or he still had them when the young X-Men went back to their time.
Kitty was never shown with this pwoer again and no reason was given. Fans just assumed it faded away despite the comics never saying that, but then comics never mentioned her having cosmic level powers again.
What is interesting about Kate, beyond being the last person to use it, though is something Gara (the first being to ever use the Black Vortex) says= Despite the Black Vortex existing for 12 billion years, and countless beings using it, Kate is first person to use it that stayed pure, she didn't loose herself to the power and go on a power-trip.

It's pretty criminal that Apocalypse hasn't appeared in AXE. He's just about the most powerful mutant, immortal, has history with the Celestials and Eternals, AND he currently is chilling with his family and a near-infinite demon army, but no one even tries to suggest contacting him.
I loved Cable/Deadpool, but the Apocalypse stuff makes absolutely no sense.
Glad you mentioned the 2 issue Hulk arc, those are absolutely amazing.

i don't think we're going to see Hulk at all in AXE Judgment Day, he's on bad terms with all the heroes and SPOILERS FOR HULK VS THOR SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Hulk vs Thor ended with Thor telling the other avengers that Hulk was dead and Hulk flew away to distant space
