I remember watching this in 1992 and it gave me chills. No one can match Freddy but no one can deny that Nuno and Gary knocked it out of the park on this one.

I'm not going to mince words here. I am not now nor have I ever been a fan of the band Extreme. But I remember seeing this live as a kid and realizing that Nuno Bettencourt was then (and is still now) a master guitarist. To transpose Mercury's piano part so seamlessly to the guitar sold me completely.
I agree Nuno is a bast guitarist but Brian May already transposed the piano to guitar long before Nuno did. (just do a search on RUclips). Nuno did put his own twist to it though..
To everyone saying that Gary is "out of tune" during Love of My Life: Why don't you try getting up on stage in front of a crowd this large and putting all of your energy, heart, and soul into it. I think you would be a lot more exhausted and out of tune by the end of this performance.
Gary can't sing love of my life in the original key. His falsetto lacks cord closure and his belted voice has a tremolo vibrato. He gives everything his got and sings with a lot of heart but technically he lacks the skills to sing this tune. He has a good voice with a decent range but Freddie had a great voice with a bigger range and better technique.
Well it feels a bit flat all the time
I look at it this way, Extreme never should have covered that song, that’s an audience only song. They should have just let Brian May play guitar and let the audience sing it, that’s a real Freddie tribute.

@@kramevangelista5242 There's alot of difference between Brian May's live version and Nuno's version. Nuno actually played the piano parts which Freddie played in the album. And I believe Nuno played in the original key as well while Brian May played in the key of A.

They ended their set at their best ... doing Love of my Life with two voices ,the middle break , the finale morphing into More than Words ....This Band was absolutely one of the best moments of the show ....

I watched this on tv live and I think extreme blew the roof. Amazing!
To all you critics saying shit about the vocals........ this guy performed a medley of songs before hand and totally rocked over every other artist here. Amazing amazing. His energy and vocals fit the band queen. No one can replace Freddie but this guy is the next best thing. 💜💜

A hard song to sing anyway, but Gary and Nuno do it on the spot after a killer full band medley. Absolute pros, and the next best thing to Queen at the whole damn show. This DESERVES a full official release!
Nearly 30 years ago?!! I remember watching this with my wife and us both bursting into tears over this rendition, both for the loss of Freddy and such a heartfelt cover. 60+ now, Freddy’s passing was the first indication that we’re not immortal…

Extreme and especially Nino were incredible that day (I was there in the middle about 30 yards from the stage). The energy and emotion of that performance was exactly why Brian said nobody understands what Queen is about better than these guys. They totally owned the show that day and blew the crowd away with their energy. The Queen Medley and then the acoustic set at the end...what an amazing way to kick the Queen songs off.
I'm sure Freddie would have been super proud of them. Although Metallica opened the show, this is when it really started....
I'll never forget the raw energy and emotion they created that day.....

Actually that guy was photographed in that concert and his picture was very famous, i used to have a queen's songbook and that book had several pictures and one of them was that man, as a matter of fact, i thought it was Freddie but after watching the pic time after time i realized the man had the "red ribbon" on his chest so i figured out the pic was from the F. M tribute. I was a teenager. Greetings from Mexico,...

Yes Gary sang a bit out of tune, Nuno kept flattening some notes throughout (didn't let notes ring out).....but dam.........I didn't notice any of that when I was watching it on TV, when it came out.
I was, am still, a huge Extreme fan, I was really into Queen at that time, and I loved, still do, "Love of My Life".
So the moment I recognized what Nuno was playing.......I was in awe.
I was in the moment and when that happens, you don't care about out of tune or dead notes. It's about the moment being created and the energy. And I was not even there, I was at home watching it on TV.
That's what Freddie Mercury gave to the world...a moment of energy in a way that only he can give.
And that's what a show is.
And Extreme captured that, perfectly. They gave the world a show in that moment.
But what it so obviously special, In that moment, it was as if, the sport of Freddie Mercury was in that stadium to give the fans , the world, a show, the way only Freddie can give. And in this last part, it was as Freddie Mercury was right there. Right before Gary starts to sing, you can see the emotion in his face, which could be why he was not facing the crowd, as if he had to pull it together and then his professionalism as a performer kicked in. Nuno in an interview actually said that it was as if they were not themselves anymore, they were all Queen fans and that's what came out of them. That's problem why they stole the show. They were Queen fans playing to Queen fans and the fans treated them as if they were Queen themselves. Just look how the crowd reacted to them. Just beautiful
Man I got that feeling in my living room. Can you imagine being there? The feeling those people had.
Brian May, said they truly knew who Queen was, when he introduced them......and he was right.
Thank you Extreme for bringing Freddie Mercury back, even if it was for just a moment. This is truly an amazingly beautiful performance by Extreme.
