I remember in Unpretty Rapstar when Queen Jessi was being shaded for not being a “real rapper”, she said something along the lines of “I’m a singer, my job is to sing. She’s supposed to be a rapper so why is she doing worse than me”. Shows how much confidence she has in her skills honestly. I love her so much.

When you hear a tropical beat from Jessi, you know she's about to sing her heart out.
So crazy to hear that you've never heard her sing before. She isn't a rapper. She's a SINGER who raps. She has said this multiple times and it's originally what she came to Korea for. Even when she was on Unpretty Rapstar, she made a comment about being better than the other contestants even though she's a vocalist (which was a diss because everyone on the show was a self-proclaimed rapper whereas she never pigeonholed herself into the role of a rapper). Her voice is SUPER unique in Kpop. She's got that deep tone and raspiness to her voice. Can't think of anyone else in Korea with her vocal quality. You should definitely check out more videos of her singing. She's wonderful.
actually i think there is another idol who has an similar voice and her name is Giant Pink and she’s under SM but yeah she has an super unique and beautiful voice. i rlly love jessi she’s just a queen
A gidle member has a deep voice I believe even Mini in gidle too does. And Got7 Jackson has a deep singing voice too and I love that he's using more of it in recent songs. It's great to hear these different sound of voices instead of having to change their voices to suit the kpop style

Talking about Lee Hyori and Jessi, they're going to form a project group along with Hwasa and Uhm Jung Hwa. I think that's one of the reasons of Lee Hyori's appearance in this mv, to warm up before the comeback.

Jessi used to sing a lot more back in the days! she has a KILLING voice! if you check her old stuff you can find some ballads/slow songs where she uses her voice at full potential! She's amazing!

Omg the intro had me hooked and I knew it was gonna be a bop!! Her singing it live as well brings out her raspiness that gets me fired up. Someone said on Reddit Jessi is one of the very few artists who has a singing voice that just commands and can hype you up.

I went to K CRUSH 2019 concert in Thailand last year. Jessi's vocal is real. Her Voice, Her English, Her Stage performance, and Entertain skill so amazing! If you have a chance. Don't miss her concert!
You realize her English is great because she was born in New York and grew up in Jersey? Lots of North American-Korean artist (I think JPark and Tablo are Canadian) helping progress the kpop/hip-hop scenes.

I know this is such a grain of salt comment considering this channel is run by a video producer who works in the Kpop industry but...it is SO good and SO refreshing to hear someone sing praises for Lee Hyori again. One of my first Kpop songs that got me into female artists (aside from 2ne1) was Lee Hyori (specifically Bad Girls and Going Crazy). Black is still one of my favourite Kpop songs because of its folk-blues-rock sound that I wish there was more of someday. Like I would kill a man for a female korean artist with that sound (thinking of PVRIS, LP, Dorothy, Deap Vally).

Jessi actually was a singer in a coed group called lucky j and it shows her beautifully singing. That group brought out a different side of jessi in my opinion. They only released a few songs around 2013 but I still miss them.
Jessi showed in her vlog that she works together with a producing team to make her songs, but she also said Psy helped out in making this song too.
She SINGS and she does it good, her voice is so beautiful, she's a singer and a rapper. This new album is incredible 💜

She IS a singer first and foremost. That's how she described herself in Unpretty Rapstar. But people know her for and love her rap so that's what her solo title tracks tend to be. She has many songs in which she sings which others recommend here. Two that I haven't seen mentioned is her Rhianna Stay cover with Lucky J and her cover of Diamond with Hyolyn.

I actually was watching this K-Drama on Netflix called Cinderella and the four knights and Jessi had a song in it which just kept playing during happy scenes and it just sounded so good, there wasn’t any rap parts in it as well. It is really worth listening to, it’s called ‘My Romeo’ and her singing voice in it sounds heavenly 🙇🏻♀️

She was originally a singer but I believe that she said that rapping is easy so she wanted to do it and she became famous for it so she continued to do it now for the past few comebacks she has been singing more going back to her roots
I love how they brought the easily acknowledgable mafia scenes given Jessi's New York background. As if shes incorporating her harsh New York culture into her Korean musical/vocal culture. I wonder if she personally decided this, given how Psy gives her a lot of freedom with her artistry.
