If you look at the story from this episode, it’s very tragic and sad especially for Sunjae. I think you’re one of those reactors who understands the characters’ situations. I love it! Will wait for the next reaction. ❤❤❤
Once again we need to clarify the space-time dynamics present here, because I also notice that some are a little confused here and there. The episode's prologue takes us back to the first episode, to the night of Eclipse's late 2022 concert, when Seon-jae meets Sol on the bridge. This time, however, everything is experienced from Seon-jae's point of view in which we have confirmation, with an even earlier flashback, that it was he who saved Sol the night of her accident in which she lost the use of her legs; this further confirms the hypothesis that she saw Seon-jae staying away from Sol, because she was angry with him (not knowing that it was Seon-jae, she didn't know him, we must remember that) because he would have involuntarily condemned her to a life in a wheelchair and therefore would have preferred not to be saved. This has always devastated Seon-jae to the core, which may also be the actual cause of her depression. It is here, however, that a sort of overwriting/conjunction of the timelines occurs: the scene shows us again the moment in which Seon-jae would have thrown himself from the balcony (in reality we assume this, because it is not shown to us and at that moment someone was ringing at his door) and we see that one of the infamous photos taken on the camera with Seon-jae and Sol together is not yet present, but that this only appeared after the fact (at the end of the second episode, we see that the photo appears out of nowhere after the crime scene has already been cordoned off with yellow police tape). Sol, back in the present again (it is now 2023, given that the event of Seon-jae's death occurred on December 31, 2022), is reached by the police because they found the photo in question, which gives Sol confirmation that the period he spent in 2008, in her body at the time, partially modified the events and that these have only been added now; furthermore, the confirmation also comes from Seon-jae's friend, In-hyuk, who now also has memories of Sol (and in fact later will call her on her phone) precisely because of the modified events that occurred in the previous episodes. In short, to make a long story short, the first part of the flashback was still the original timeline, of which we had confirmation that Seon-jae knew Sol and was the one who saved her (in addition to the fact that the phone call made to Sol during the broadcast radio at the beginning of the first episode was intentional on Seon-jae's part), but the part where Sol returned to the present, the timeline was changed a little and the proof is the photo. That said, we learn that Seon-jae's time travel watch, with its numbers, tracks how many times Sol can still travel to the past (apparently twice more) and that this only works at midnight (because midnight I don't know, but it could have something to do with the time of Sol's accident, but that's my hypothesis). By pressing the button again, Sol returns to 2008 again, but ten days after the moment in which she left the past to return to the present (why ten days we don't know); as a result, it happens, again, that the personality of Sol of 2023 takes the place of that of Sol of 2008 and, at the same time, what happened in the ten days in which Sol of 2008 was back in possession of her body, arrives to the Sol of 2023 in the form of new memories downloaded into her mind (that's why from time to time she remembers what her 2008 self did while she wasn't there). I hope I explained it as best as I could, I realize it can be difficult to keep track of all this stuff. That said, this leads to some pretty funny dynamics, like when, rightly, 2008 Sol, after realizing that she had no memory of what her 2023 self had done, believed she was possessed by a spirit (hence the skit with the shaman on the terrace of the house), or how, again rightly so, the Sol of 2008 treated Seon-jae as if he were a criminal which, as I wrote last time, was the worst possible moment, given that he had declared to her in the pool. However, for me, the highest moment was how the Sol of 2008 organized the birthday of her beloved Tae-sung, making that video with the dance and song that plunged the Sol of 2023 into shame, confirming that the worst enemy Sol is her nineteen-year-old self. Speaking of Tae-sung, who also seems to hide a less than idyllic family history, he is the only one who has actually realized that there are two Sols and that he has a weakness for the one from 2023. As I wrote a few videos ago, the impediment of not being able to reveal anything about the future would have proven unexpectedly useful, as in this case, when she sneaked into Seon-jae's house, using the gossip news of the future to avoid being caught. Really hilarious. In this regard, it is now clear that it is not the Idol career that led Seon-jae to depression, but, as mentioned before, Sol's story itself, consequently Sol's actions to prevent Seon-jae from becoming a idol would be wrong and counterproductive, but it is commendable of her to want to save him so much as to give up on him becoming the idol she fell in love with. Special mention for the subplot of the unlikely love story of Hyun-joo and Geum, Sol's brother, which like the most chaotic romantic comedies, is all born from chance and funny fights, as in this episode where Hyun-joo is deals with the most embarrassing moment of her life, only to be unexpectedly saved by Geum who becomes unexpectedly receptive. There's little to it, I love Seo Hye-won's comedic performances, I'd like to see her lead in the future. It's worth focusing on Sol's incident with the drunk at the end of the episode, but not so much on this, but on the disturbing taxi that seemed ready to reach Sol, only to back out when the drunk revealed himself; therefore, in a certain sense, the drunk in his being annoying has "saved" Sol from that taxi driver, who, even without knowing what will happen, for anyone who has seen the series even up to this point, it is clear that he is not a random element of the story... Thanks for the reaction. Small special mention that I had forgotten. The episode in question shows another parallel with the movie 20th Century Girl: when Seon-jae gets into a fight with the other bully swimmer, Sol promptly comes to Seon-jae's defense with a prodigious flying headbutt. In the movie 20th Century Girl, Kim You-jung does something similar when he saves Byeon Woo-seok from bullies with a flying kick.
Really sorry for the late reply but as much as possible, I don't want to not read your comments, so I reply when I am here on YT. Thank you for always explaining what's happening in the drama. Despite the fact that I am done watching it, reading your comments made me realize the things I was confused of when watching this. Speaking of 20th Century haha I remember that scene you are talking about, I just rewatched that movie. Before it was for Yoo-jung, now it's for Wooseok :)) Thanks for the time always!!
Taesung is a green flag but Sunjae is a green forest 🤧 Also Im sol was busy fangirling with Taesung back in the original timeline. She didn’t know a man named Sunjae exist 😅 (I think this was mentioned by her friend when they were on the way to the concert EP1) that’s the answer to your question “why she did not remember him”
