This makes me want to learn, all the things
Bro I appreciate your enthusiasm. I am currently hypothesising something that if a learning goal is more planned, it will create more excitement in learner. What do you think about this?
@@bertulgar5147 I think it could. I think it depends on if the person is already interested in the subject. In our cases, we like philosophy. Seeing a literal map of what there is to explore can motivate someone as it shows a clear direction of what there is left to know. That being said, you want to allow some room for spontaneity, so just how Carneades didn't spend 5 hours on each subject, it allows the learner to dicover new things within the subtopics despite having a really detailed road map.
@Sergio Ascencio that's a wonderful plan and i wish you the best of luck doing so. It wouldn't surprise me if I do something similar later down the line
Hahaha you'll need a few lifetimes
@NickyG @Bertulgar You inspire me with hope, for your generation. May your spirit remain untramelled and strong 🙏

Thanks your a saviour
Thank you.
This deserves a lot of views... The amount of time and energy spent in making this video is immense!
This is... objectively incredible o.O
Yeah, objectively one of the videos I've seen on RUclips in the past five years
Inarguably.
Haha, thanks! Can art be objectively incredible? I don't know. ruclips.net/video/jlutlCrVQN4/видео.html
Well, "objectively" not really. The entire concept of Objectivity is subjective in and of itself. Art specifically is, more then any other human endeavour, especially sensitive to dogma and objectivity is dogma. If Art can be objective, then it has devolved into something else (my opinion).
That said, I personally find this video to be amazing.
No doubt that knowledge is held by individuals, but 1+1=2 is objectively True for all individuals in existence and True if no individuals are in existence.
I’ve rewatched the first 3 mins around 10 times because my mind fills with thoughts as the video plays. This is going to be one of the best presentations ever. Thank you very much to everyone involved in creating, publishing, and sharing.
I definitely want to study some Antarctica philosophy!
Haha! Nice catch, I'm surprised no one has caught the other Easter Egg in the video yet.
Came here looking for "Antarctica philosophy" comments.

Does heat exist?
@Brian Gallia
Heat is experienced more than it is observed.
Particle Dispersion is a more accurate description of what Heat is, since Wave Theory is just a generalization of Particle Theory.
EPIC. This is something I've wanted to make a while back. I even made a weak attempt at it but gave up. I am absolutely floored that you made this!
Thanks! It took quite some time and a lot of work. Thanks for watching!
I really appreciate the effort you put in this video!
It is incredible, thank you for sharing such high quality information.
No problem! Thanks for watching!
One of the BEST videos I've ever watched on RUclips. Thank you and I enjoyed every second of it. It feels I am 6 in a candy store with an all-you-can-eat-coupon in my hand.
Awesome! I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
My dear sir, Thank you very much for this video. I have been blessed by it. The overview is presented so well and any reader will get a slear picture of what it is all about. Thank you.
This was genuinely interesting and informative, thankyou so much for making this!
A lot of logic on this channel... and I’m loving every minute of it!
Thank you for the phenomenal effort to produce and share this beauty. Forever indebted 🙏.
Hi Carneades! It’s been a while. I hope you’re doing well 😊.
I just had my first philosophy seminar at University and the teacher literally put this video on for the class. This was because we were discussing the question “did the Greeks invent philosophy?”
Even after all this time I’m still running into your work even at University lol 😂.
Absolutely fantastic. Thank you for putting this together.
Wonderful video , thanks for doing this .
I don't know how much I truly understood ( not much) but it helps to see it organized in this manner in order to begin to connect the dots and having a broad picture of where the things I've learned so far fit in in the universe of philosophy
This lecture about the map of philosophy is very interesting and very informative as well as very helpful. It is a great way to learn about philosophy as a whole. More importantly, it is a wonder that you can teach things that are not so simple as to be taught as easily as you can teach them. However, the art of putting so many ideas into such brevity is not only a matter of skill but also a matter of practice. This is also explanatory for understanding how brevity is beauty.
Pakistan
Thanks for making this video. It is a great primer for those new to this field.
One thing that's missing is metaphilosophy, which includes questions such as:
What is the purpose of philosophy?
Is philosophy practical?
Given that we still debate ideas that are thousands of years old, has progress been made in philosophy?
Benjamin Przybocki 27:40 I see "applied ethics" mentioned, but I don't know if it studies some part of that kind of question or not.
I majored in Philosophy, and only recently did I realize that our department never had a metaphilosophy class. I.e, there were never any courses offered on the topic of philosophy of philosophy. The closest things I took to it was a series of classes on Kant and a class on the philosophy of science. The book "4 Dimensions of Philosophy " would probably be a good textbook for it.
👍
Of course, then we'll need meta-metaphilosophy....
Academic Philosophy, Truth Wisdom (epistemology, metaphysics), and Practical Wisdom have different tools and aims.
Hey! This is Absolutely Wonderful you were Able to Chart this, was Having a Tough Time Navigating. I really Appreciate your Clarity on Something so Broad 👍🏽
ohhh my god i just saw this pop up in my subscription box. I'm so excited and thankful for this!!
I love your content this was a great summary thank you for making this!
Hi from Libya.
this is one of best videos that are on RUclips.
keep the amazing work going .
Thank you Carneades for a brilliant job!
This video is a fantastic synopsis of philosophy better then any philosophy history summary video ive seen yet
Thank you for mapping the various philosophies. As you went around the world, I noticed two glaring omissions - Indian philosophy and that of the Australian aboriginal world. Both are ancient and I believe have profound and original contributions.
@18:27 even mentions Tibetan
If anything he missed communist philosophy since his atheism is largely informed by the anti-religious dismissiveness. If you feel maligned as a religious person by Carneades….
Thank you for the time and effort to produce and share this video.
Thank You! Your work is much appreciated 🙇♂️
I love how you mentioned Kurt Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron." Now that I think about it, the satire is quite philosophic, it's sort of like a dystopoian thought experiment that has some social commentary.
Brilliant video mate, one of the best youtube channels ever.
Fantastic video, thank you so much! Not only is the content incredibly illuminating, it also looks great. What type of software did you use to make it, and what's the font you are using?
Very precise,concise, in-depth and captivating
incredible!, such a clear voice, what amazing work, thank you so much wow! :)
Ok hold on, can we just appreciate this video for a moment? This is spectacular!!! Good job! Thank you very much.
I was looking for something exactly like this and thankfully found it thanks so much
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely love your tone of passion
U have to add in ur map Spinoza and Marx, they are not marginal thinkers. Hegel said: "no philosophy without Spinoza."
But I really appreciate the effort of mapping something that big.
Greetings from Switzerland
As an antarctic philosopher, this was very insightful.
This was... awesome. As a dilettante with a slightly more than passing interest in philosophy (now somewhat dormant, though), i figured that most of this map would be old hat to me, but *damn* did you get a lot of information crammed in there. Especially appreciated the non-western mapping.
+Raketemensch 00000 I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely amazing video!
awesome map i was hoping domain of science would make one but then I found this xd so detailed very nice work
When you start studying the highest levels of sciences, getting closer to the edge of current knowledge, the philosophic nature of it all becomes crystal clear. It's basically what pushes scientific knowledge further: there would be no thought experiments or hypotesis formulation without the application of philosophical practices.
I can't wait to see your video on Postmodernism and Logic/Reason.
Thats huge ans amazing work .. Thanks !
Great presentation! Thanks!
Thanks a lot, awesome work right there.
Need to display books or pamphlets on each individual study or branch of Philosophy. Great introduction to wet the philosophical apetite.
So many woooords! And very beautifully put together too :)
Great video and great contribution to the watching community…
This man has done a lot of study. His knowledge of the field is vast, comprehensive, and seriously impressive.
Thanks! As a philosophical skeptic that does not know anything, I feel like Socrates whenever someone says I know a great deal. :)
Before this video, my thoughts were all tangled, now i see everything in a different perspective!!
Glad to help! One of the goals of the video is to visualize the scope of the world of philosophy. Philosophy has such a broad discipline, it is rare to look at it all at once.
Although this is very impressive, I think that this is a Western understanding of philosophy. It makes perfect sense for an Occidental orientation of the last 2000-3000 years. However, Eastern Philosophy is poorly represented here. There are many errors showing a lack of knowledge on the relationship between certain 'philosophies' (i.e. Indian-Buddhist-Japanese) and the 'non-dualist' inner nature of such conceptions of reality obliterate the Western tradition which is called 'Philosophy'. If philosophy as we know it, how it's taught at university level and even at schools, is English - then the Eastern tradition is Klingon. The approach is totally different. I wish I knew this when I studied. Also I wish I had a useful map like this describing how all the pertinent things in my courses linked to each other. Great job!
"Apologies that this video is so long"?!?
Are you kidding me? This video was pretty damn GOOD! Not only could I have probably taken MORE of it, not only did I learn a thing or two from it, it was one of those rare videos I watched all the way through in one viewing! (I mean there are A LOT of good videos to watch, but rare is the video on RUclips that I feel compelled to watch in its entirety in the first viewing...Most I squirrel away in the library que for later viewing, but I sat through this one pretty glued to my seat. Granted it was a TOILET seat, but STILL....🤣)
That's a long time to spend on a toilet seat
This is absolutely amazing.
Unbelievable work 💫
Wow great video i always was interested in philosophical ideas
This is exactly the kind of engaging topic I love to explore. I've shared my take on my channel and would love to hear what others think.
Very concise, informative overview of traditional philosophy; however, this is yet another example of a proponent of analytic philosophy bracketing off post-structuralism from the alleged "Map of Philosophy" [sic].
Thank you for making this friend
thank you so much! this video is incredible useful
Thanks so much!
Carneades, although it was more theatrical than philosophical, I do indeed appreciate the feat you have performed during the visit to Rome. I liked how audiences were wowed by your one time being for and one time being against a subject.
Incredible video clipping.
A good presentation overall, the only part I'm a bit disappointed is the history of philosophy. It's somewhat a bit skewed, just a few example :
- Didn't mention about the Pre-Socratic
- It overlook Neoplatonism, which was one of the most influential (after Peripatetic) up until 19th century.
- Augustine & Boethius is actually from the late antiquity.
- It skips the Graeco-Arabic-Latin translation movement which is why the Latin can read Aristotle (and also overlook Islamicate philosophy, a pretty interesting era considering there are constructive discussions between the 3 Abrahaimic faith)
- In Medieval Philosophy, although Anselm & Thomas Aquinas is the most famous philosopher. Henry of Ghent was more reflective of this era. And also Dun Scotus was a more interesting figure (although I like Peter Abelard and his intentionalism.)
Although it's understandable why it's presented that way, it's the typical undergraduate philosophy course. Most of the things I've mentioned are only known to specialist in its era.
The only reason I can point out is because of "History of Philosophy" podcast from Professor Peter Adamson (he specializes in Neoplatonism in Arabic Philosophy, though he's always discuss with his colleagues who specialize in each of the period)
The video is already 45 minutes long, it fulfils its job in introducing the subject and summarising what is within it. There's always going to be things you can't cover
Good critique. Especially the augustine and Boethius inaccuracy. Good info too. Thanks brother.
Thanks for this.
Intro had a tone similar to John 1: 1-15 (“In the beginning was the Word…”) lol pretty funny, great grand intro ;)
Wow great. I like the beginning already. Love it
Thanks!
thank you thank you thank you so much.I am going to studying philosophy. But I don't have any knowledge about it.This map gave an idea of philosophy. Thank you so much. bless you
+NIHAL BADHAI No problem! I'm glad to hlep. Hopefully as you study philosophy you can return here and see how your understanding of these many concepts has grown! :)
Wow. I think you really covered it all.
How could you relegate the vast breadth and depth of Antarctic Philosophy to just a single question-marked mention on a map, not even a spoken word about it?
common bro
This is the best video on youtube.
I fucking love this channel, please never stop
Fantastic! Great job! 😇
this is helping me get my bearings in philosophy
Great! I'm glad to help!
I have absolutely no clue about philosophy... But whoa... This is inspiring
the graphics are a work of genius...who's the artist?
Thanks! They are all created by me. :) I often use references for the faces but the text is done by me by "hand".
@@CarneadesOfCyrene extraordinary . Thank you for this, you have paid homage to the philosophical lineage with this art.
thought provoking... thanks!
Very good video, thank you :)
Knew you were an Analytic 5 minutes in the video
Prickle haha that’s what I was thinking
Because he didn’t speak in poetic and metaphorical clouds of fog made of words?
Remember this was made by a know at all math major, all of philosophy is a footnote to plato, any map taking into account history would stem from plato. this map could’ve been a visualisation for how thinkers have responded to ideas and how they evolve. How modern thoughts of economics and religion stem from a singular source
Also I wonder have you ever done a video on yourself? You could talk a bit about your background and philosophies you hold too or your favourite ones.
Cool journey!
Incredible. I was set on being a nurse. This makes me want to study law :)
Study both... You can study as a nurse practical but also probably law online or at the side.
Awesome video. Just a question,, where does process philosophy fit in this super cool map?
Great video, thank you very much , note to self(nts) watched all in it again 45:11
Thanks a lot!
I love your work!
and I think this should be mandatory when you arrive at any university :)
From domain of science?
Depressing that they instead throw philosophy out the window and make postmodernism mandatory at any university regardless of the degree.
I upgraded you from my political channel to my educational channel. :)
This is my Political channel. :)
Are William James and David Hume two of your favorite philosophers?
this is exactly what i was looking for.
Amazing thank so much for this
No problem! I'm glad that you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
Any Antarctic philosophers you'd recommend? 20:38
This video earns you a subscriber sir/madam.
Hey great video can start learning philosophy in the order you explained it? or are there other things i should start with?
I love this. Thank you!
Wonderful. Thanks for watching!
This is so great
Awesome schematic!
Great summary.
Thanks!
Thank you for this video
Great content ❤
Hello, could you make this whole map available to download? I would like to print this out and put it up on my wall. It's great.
Logic has become wild and that's awesome
Well done!
