HD Panther G Tank with Cut-Away Walkaround

- The Panzer V "Panther" tank was produced with 3 main variants, with the first vehicles completed in early 1943 and finally arriving to combat units in summer of that same year. The Panther tank saw action on all fronts thereafter.
This tank is the Panther Ausf. G, the final version to enter production. With 3126 vehicles completed between March 1944-April 1945, the Ausf. G is identifiable by a reduced slope to the side armor and a straight edge above the tracks along the side. Filmed here is a late production example, where the previous models' gun mantlets rounded profiles provided a trap for incoming shells and was modified by the wedge-shaped addition shown.
The Panther Ausf G. weighs in at a sizeable 45.5 tons and is armed with a powerful 75mm Kampfwagenkanone (KwK) 42 L/70 coaxial cannon and two 7.92mm MG42 machine guns. Built for a crew of 5 men, it had a range of 200km (124 mi) and with a powerful Maybach HL230P30 engine, it could reach a top speed of 46 km/h (28.5 mph) in favorable road conditions.
The eight pairs of large interleaved road wheels supported by double torsion bar suspension can be seen in full here. While problematic to the crew for repairs and maintenance, this arrangement was required to achieve the required ground pressure and speed to support both the weight of the vehicle and achieve the necessary mobility.
This awesome vehicle currently resides at the National Armor and Cavalry Museum in Ft. Benning, GA. Cutaway was conducted in 1947. It was used as a training/demonstration piece at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. - Игры
Back in the early '90s I visited the Panzer museum in Sinsheim, Germany where I came upon a Panther on display. Ever since I was kid I wanted to climb inside a Panther just to check it off my bucket list. Well, it was a cold Winter afternoon and there was hardly anyone inside the museum and the security guards weren't anywhere in sight, so I got onto the back of the tank and climbed thru the open loader's hatch on the back of turret and sat there in the loader's seat for about half-a-minute. My friend took a picture of me looking out the hatch. It was an awesome feeling just sitting there.
Even cut up she is such an aesthetically pleasing tank. I believe the Panther is the most photogenic tank ever manufactured, simply superb
This tank was at the Aberdeen Armor Museum in Maryland. the sides were cut away to display the interior inside the museum, but after they moved it outside they didn't cover the openings only put screens on the outside to further allow viewing albeit exposed to the elements before being transferred to Georgia
I use to love viewing this when it was in MD
I saw 2 panthers they had outside but don't remember this 1 .
Where in georgia?
A very sad video, specially with that emotional music..
amazing regardless of that, so many details, im impressed with how much of the interior is actually there, I hope they restore that tank, keeping the cuts, and put it on a museum where a lot of people can appreciate this wonder of technology
Wow what a great "walk around"! Excellent music and views of the details-I was particularly in awe of the thickness of the armor and of course the inside shots.
I built this one in scale 1:35 at the moment with a transparent turret, upper chassis and full interior. I’m excited about the result.

"Cut away" aka trying to figure out how the german welds so perfectly .
As an Ex-crewman on a Leopard C2 and a 2A4MCAN this video saddens me, to cut up such a beauty....
exactly. WHY????
@@goldmanjace Am against this but its for research probably
When one considers the ideology that produced it, perhaps it got off lightly.
I didn't know this till recently but a whole lot of salvaged reconditioned German tanks were sold to Syria after the war. By France primarily but other countries too. They were used in combat against the Israelis who destroyed them piece meal with up gunned Sherman (105mm) and Centurions. Mostly Panzer IV and Sug III but some Panthers too. ruclips.net/video/MbgW9C9G0H4/видео.html
how is cutting it a sad thing? it's a tank... cutting it lets me see whats inside which is interesting
I am a Ex-Leopard 1 Mechanic, it hurts when I see this bad condition....
One of the best Panther walk rounds I've seen.
Glad they moved it inside. It was on outdoor display for a long time
Just found your channel and had to say, the Panther is a fantastic looking tank! Also, my favorite in WoT, have nearly 300 battles in mine with 3 marks and a 62% winrate. That thing is just too good!
It actually looks very good like this, the interior should be restored so everyone can see what’s inside, that was the purpose of those cut outs. We have so many panthers in perfect state, I think somewhere should be also opened up panther like this one. If they weld on new plates it will be such a waste!
Spot on. According to Hilary Louis Doyle, this is very possibly the most internally complete original Panther.
You can imagine how IT looked when they got IT!
No
The armor should be welded and finished so it looks unmolested.
Then the entire vehicle should be restored to running order.
How can the world possible EVER have "enough" Panthers? No, the world needs as many complete, running Panthers as is possible. Same goes for all the other AFV's we've fielded. They should all be returned to running order and properly cared for. No excuse for anything else.
@@Odessa45 It's funny. If there is a panther with exposed interiorlike this, than it should be preserved in it's current state. The best option for this vechicle is to be placed in a museum next to an uncutted panther, so that everyone can see complete vechicle and an interior of another of the same kind, just like panzer III's in bovington.
Great video, Sofi! Good to see the beast again since they closed the museum at APG. The Army cut this tank open as a learning aid for trainees. Several other Aberdeen vehicles were also similarly cut open for the same reason (T 34/85, Jpz38(t), for example). They were all left out in the Chesapeake Bay weather for decades. The army didn't much care about old German tanks, and there was never enough money to get them inside. It's nice to see these old friends finally getting some TLC.
Yes, I knew that together with other tanks it was open up for display...
I visited APG in the 80’s. I almost lost my mind, Panthers and Tigers and Brummbärs! Such a huge collection of armor in one place. Overwhelming! I even climbed inside the Tiger I through the loader’s hatch. That was a great day indeed!
They should have given them back if they did'nt care.
Wow. They are not kidding about the side armor being fairly thin.
Oh shit, the soundtrack, the cinematography and the knowledge that these things were once a monster that no allied tanker wanted to face yet inside were a crew every bit as terrified as an allied tankie. Thought provoking stuff Sofilein and thank you for it.
I played on a tanks right next to it up in Aberdeen at the age of 9. Great video
Goes to show you, how much a good theme song afects a scene. This was much more epic and interesting because of that song.
On a related note, I saw this Panther - and all it's brothers - when it was outside at Aberdeen. So sad.
Glad they are all finally getting better treatment.
I remembered my Uncle Jimmy who during the War was a M-4 Sherman Tank commander saying "I never feared a Tiger, I knew I could out run them". "Panther's were scary they could catch you."
This really needs repainted, even show some of the mechanical aspects. Honestly I think the Panther is a very attractive looking tank. 🙃
Despite the rust, this tank is still good order which is why it is being restored... hopefully fully functional. After all they just restored the Elefant that was at Aberdeen sitting outside. I really miss that place.
"...the Panther is a very attractive looking tank".
Said no Allied tank crew, ever. My father commanded Sherman tanks in the New Zealand Division in Italy in 1944/45 and said the Panthers gave them a hard time. On one occasion, they had to clear Rimini airfield and found it defended by a pair of Panther turrets that had been taken off their chassis and mounted at ground level. They took a bit of winkling out and my father's battalion lost a Sherman and its crew doing it.
@@MarsFKA Lol. Edgy eh?
My great grandfather was 101st with the 327th. But I'm not going to tell "epic" stories.
The Stug is also a very handsome tank

A marvelous piece of history
Epic score Sofi, awesome.
awesome music and description, I hope you make more in the future :D
I saw this vehicle years ago at Aberdeen, glad its in a warehouse now. Looks like there is still enough left for restoring it to fully functional and running condition.
The rusted relics of the conquerors always wind up on display in museum's.
Sofilein many many thanks for this powerful music and Video
wow, thanks for the video 👍
Excellent. I mean it, great video. Keep up the good work.
Great vid..thanx for sharing....one of my alltime favourite tanks...
Beautiful Medium Tank.
Wonderful Panther G
I know a couple of kids in the local welding school that could weld this thing back up and you wouldn't be able to ever tell it was cut up.
I just subscribed to the channel a few days ago, thanks to the Chieftain.
The Panther is one of my favorite German Panzers ( who am I kidding, I love all the German Hardware, lol). WarGaming should really come out with a Tier VI Premium German Panther Ausf. G with the Chin Turret and the Original gun (7,5cm KwK 42/L 70). I bet they could make a lot of money with that.
Love your work, keep it up.
You can have the whole panther family in war thunder😉😉

The best tank of WW II . What a beauty! 😍
@That one historian on internet
Sorry! It has been the best medium battle tank in WW II.
The best tank has been of course the Tiger. No doubt! 😆
@That one historian on internet
You really didn't have a Chance against a Tiger, if it fired its 8,8cm Kwk.
Just have a look at its kill ratio!
And the Panther was almost the same.
But if you prefer the most destroyed tank of WW II , the T 34, or well known "thommy cooker", the Sherman, it's your choice, but not mine. 😉
@That one historian on internet
Both of my grandfathers had been in WW II and my great-great uncle commanded the submarines.
By the way, the IS II had a larger gun, than the Tiger. But it hadn't its accuracy.
Further questions?
@That one historian on internet
Yep. Thanks! The Tiger tank couldn't have been war changing, because Germany hadn't enough of them. 😉
It has been better that way, because in the other hand we would live in a dictatorship today.
The second world war has caused so many lives. We should pay respect to all the victims and all soldiers, who paid with their lives, so that we can live in peace and freedom.
It has been a high price to pay.
Let's learn from wach other in respect and with tolerance. Thanks!
Greetings from Germany
@@alwaysbvb2937 >we would live in a dictatorship today
Yeah, no. Tanks like the Tiger only added to Germany's growing list of problems. It was an incredibly heavy tank that guzzled way too much fuel. Germany barely had enough fuel and steel to keep smaller tanks like the Panzer III and Panzer IV running on a meaningful scale, let alone tanks that weighed twice as much.
You greatly misunderstand why the Tiger and Panther were failures.
Awesome music!
Wow what a tank. And you get to play in them as well? Surely that's not fair 😁
Very cool. I have seen a cutaway of many items including a WW1 U-boat in the Deutsches Museum in Munich (an exceptional technology museum). It is tremendously educational to have a cutaway view like this. Perhaps this vehicle can be restored and find it's way to the museum.
I've been to that musuem as well and I agree with you. This vehicle will be restored and displayed in the new musuem at Ft. Benning which should be displayed this year! Great resource for teaching, which is why this cutaway was done after the vehicle was captured, to teach the soldier
As Aberdeen Proving Ground is closed years ago, when are they going to open the new museum? Of course this is the very late Panther Ausf. G and might have been produced in the final months of war but I can see that the rear torsion bars are sagging up but nevertheless it is still relatively intact with original interior ivory white colour. Wow...
This is why this panther is alive :/
If it produce earlier this tank may cant see this years
@@Leo-gc6ji undoubtedly but remember that most of the "opened" tanks has been left outside for years left to rotten under the rain or snow. It is almost a miracle is the tank is in this condition. Remember that most of the tanks still had the original wartime paint. Sad indeed....

as soon as i saw the cuts in the hull and the decrepid state of this tank and the one next to it, i already knew it came from the Army Ordinance Museum.... before even reading the description
At least it's inside out of the elements now. Lots of TLC needed!!
this is a LATE version of the G series. the Chin Guard on the Mantlet was introduced a little late due to the Shot trap issue.

Beast of war! Rest in peace, steel monster. You served your time well.
Nice torch work....plasma cutter. Needs a good sand blasting....but some like the....patina. Sand blasted..and repainted as is...would make a fine display.
One of the most intense material of yours. No wonder 1/4mln of views.
What a disgrace to cut away the side of this panther..😭
They should restore it to running order!!!!🤔
YEAH... You foot the bill?
Theres like 3 other Panthers there that are being restored and they cut up the worst condition one as a museum piece.
I'd like to see it run while still having open sides.
The armour on this Panther can be put back and welded in if needed.
From the history point of view, this piece is amazing unique because it seems still in it original state. I did see a lot of Panthers in Europe from the inside. This one has still a lot of details. Amazing i did notice the tank Gun Sights, the Turmzielfernrohr TZF 12 its still in this tank. Also the original 75 mm holders for the Ammunition storage. Its cool to put it in a running condition. But this one is pretty unique. Better preserve the state as it is right now. There are a lot of project already . Like some running King tigers and some Panthers. This machine has a unique atmosphere. I would not change that cause it give you a really good impression how those big cats used to be . I see a lot of original details. It would be better to preserve the state as it is right now. I did use to be a owner of a TZF 9d from a Kingtiger II i did keep it to its original state. Now its at a museum in Berlin. If you change the original state, the originality will be gone for ever. That is my point of view. This piece is a one of a kind. A lot of history is inside. It would be a shame to destroy that. Then it will be gone for ever.
Great Music! You Great Lady =)
Panther: that damn super perishing took my armor!
Hope they fully restore those Panthers.. Weld back new plates, new paint, interior and engine. This video is so sad!

It is being restored... Yay!
The Ammo Storage was still stored in the Sponsons of the Panther 's sides, being a Sherman Gunner, they must have aimed at dead center when shooting the side armor.
You would aim for center mass regardless to ensure a maximum chance of hitting the target. Outside of 400 meters it becomes very difficult to cherrypick weakspots.
Beautiful footage, zee germans built and still build fabulous tanks, subscribed.
I really dislike cutaways, especially of tanks as rare as the Panther. If it is at all possible to restore a tank to running condition, they should do that instead. If they want to do a cutaway, do it with mock-up or a replica.
Is painful to see
Yea +it's a Panther G with the rarer mantlet but anyway

Beautiful and Wonderful tank ever. Hahaha. It's the default model for the common battle tank design in present. Good performance, good reloading time and good firepower. It's the best tank ever build from Germany.
Kitsada Nanaunkham good reload time? Wot isn’t real life. Reload time depends on the loader not the tank itself
So, any plans to restore the interior, so that it doesn't look like a rusty, shot up wreck?
Polish Tank Museum in Poznan has T-34-85 with kinda similiar armor cuts. Interesting indeed.
The Panther...What a beautiful machine
At least...It was :((
What is that little turret above the big turret. No one ever talks about that and I been seeing them on different variations of these tanks.
Perhaps you're asking about the cupola? Lots of different designs for those!

British tank Museum: restores tanks to full working order whenever possible and looks after the rest like a tank daycare
American tank Museum: rusting tanks and poorly painted tanks sometimes cut apart left out in the elements for years with little to no maintenance
Bullshit. There are some amazing American tank museums.
The AAF tank museum in Danville, Virginia is an amazing example. Over 100 million dollars' worth of military vehicles and gear with a ton of tanks, all but a few are in fully working order (including a running M103, several M60s, M60A2 Starship, and T-72 among many others).

And what do I spy next to this Panther? Tiger 332. It's been decades since my brother and I had our pictures taken in front of it at Aberdeen when it was painted a very ghoulish pinkish tan color. It was then restored and put on display at the Patton Armor Musuem. This Panther was also painted the same god awful pink tan color and the cut outs covered at that time Hopefully the Panther will finally get it's due and be restored. The Elephant was restored and is in England, but I lost the Tiger I also with the side cut outs.
It's a new approach; instead of thicker armour to stop the shot, big holes so it goes through without touching..
