  • Saved several Hamiltons by changing the center brake light myself. Works on Hyundai Sonata's from 2006 to 2009. All you need is a phillips head screwdriver and a 921 bulb (filament or LED for longer life). Good luck!

The images are bad, but the idea is perfect. Simply, easy and fast procedure, if you follow the sequence described.

When I did mine, I cut off part of the bottom of the socket. That way the I could install the bulb into the cover before installation. Made the job easier. Thanks for the video.

One of the most helpful videos I have ever watched...it saved me atleast 100 dollars and I just listened and followed what this guy in the video was saying and it took me 10 minutes and just 5 dollars to fix what I once payed 80 bucks for.

Thanks. I would have never known the other screw was behind the foam. I did trim the bulb housing enough to squeeze it by with it assembled.

Good method. On reassembly I installed the light socket from the bottom as i lacked the dexterity to work from the top. Also only installed one screw holding the light socket as i lost the other screw between the decks. Grateful for the tips though! thanks for sharing.

I'm 6'2" with very large hands. I reached in the access port on top of the trunk and BARELY wiggled this bulb out and back in with my finger tips. Job took 2min. Didnt unscrew or unbolt a single thing. I went straight to the location and used good ole hand eye coordination. If you're handy, long needle nose pliers (or even better the long needle nose with a curved end) will get this job done easily in under 5min

I have large hands so it was difficult to get the bulb in the brake light assembly After several attempts, I decided to cut the extra piece of plastic stem which allowed me to fasten the light socket much easier.

+Arthur Kirk - I have a 2006 Sonata that I'm thinking about replacing it's original tail light bulbs with LED's. Since you mentioned you did this..did you find any advantage or improvement in brightness? Or..was it just a waste of cash? Thanks for your input!

Thanks AK. I have an idea to get maybe 16 in long green and black wires and splice it under the trunk compartment so that you would have extra wire length and can plug the bulb back in without the fuss. What do you think?

Helpful, but unfortunately did not worked with my 2007 Sonata. The hinges at the end of the lamp would not come off, make it impossible to remove it like in this video. I tried to pry it out but ended up breaking one of the thinner corners (my wife hasn't found out yet!). Looked in another site, saw the idea of making a hole in the metal. This actually is a faster an more practical way. I am planning to make a video myself. Thank you for your assistance!

i found the best way to do it is use a Dremel with a metal cutting bit and enlarge the hole to get bulb out and in again.
