Prokofiev's last two sonatas, 8 and 9, are extraordinary pieces of music, both for their musical organization and musical imagination, a rarity when these two things come together in such an eloquent manner as they do in these two sonatas.

Berman gives a very fine performance in the light of this work being indelibly associated with Richter.

Sandor, who Prokofiev gave the piece to first (first public performance), plays the opening movement with more delicacy than most pianists. Instead of rushing the tempo or playing things with disinterest... Sandor doesn't impress me with the other sonatas but he's my favorite for the 9th.

Прекрасное исполнение! Абсолютно ясное, точное, глубокое, содержательное и соразмерное по форме. Настоящий Прокофьев зрелого периода.

lovely piece and good playing. However, the piece is in C major and not B flat major as written in the title.

Actually it is modal... you cannot quite say it has a tonality.
