there seems to be some questions as to the twins riding in their seats, even though I explained it in the video. I think it's great you still have them using a car-seat even at 12, I do the same with my kids and a childcare business we run whenever transporting other people's kids around. Too many parents seem to think outgrowing a car-seat is something to be done as soon as possible like some kind of right of passage or something when it's really just a pretty common sense thing to help keep your kids safe. As you pointed out even full grown adult race car drivers use a 5 point harness seat and there's nothing babyish about it. Perhaps it's usual for a guy to advocate for something like this but I've seen real car accidents out on the road up close in graphic detail and so I know what it can do. Once you see something like that it's much easier to advocate for. Further I really don't like to mention this and ruin anything for you but Consumer Reports actually did their own round of extensive car-seat testing and found that the the Frontier 90 click-tight seats completely failed their crash tests done with higher weight older child dummies in the seats. The harness itself will actually break loose in the shoulders an can cause an older child to become severely injured and even eject as a result. As such I discontinued using our Frontier 90 click-tight seat with any older kids over 50lbs or so for this very reason. Unfortunately there are not really any other decent options for older kids out on the mainstream market these days. In the past I used a Britax Regent car-seat which originally started out as a special needs car-seat designed by John Merritt. As someone who's been using various car-seats over the last 20 years or so this was one of the best car-seats ever made but unfortunately Britax no longer produces it and moved over into it's Frontier line. That's what led me to the Merritt Roosevelt car-seat which is essentially an updated and improved slightly larger version of the old Regent seat designed by the same engineer. I don't at all work for this company but have to sincerely say it is quite simply the best highest quality car-seat I've ever seen and used. All the kids we've had use it in our business absolutely love it and were even fighting over who's turn it was to use it, even older kids. It is sold as a "special needs" car-seat but does not look anything stereo-typically like something that is "special needs" and it can simply be bought with normal standard options. It's also on the rather expensive side but after owning one can attest that it's extremely high quality light-years ahead of any mainline consumer seats like the Frontier click-tight 90. I was so impressed with it I called and told the company they really ought to sell these seats to all kids and not just those with "special needs" because they are that good. I realize your boys are 12 now and so investing in something like that for them now might not last them too much longer but for your up and coming kids they might really enjoy and benefit from them after your 12 year old's would outgrow them. The seat has a 115lbs harnessed weight limit so kids can certainly use it for a very long time. I normally have my kids and those in our business use a car-seat up until they are just over 4 foot 9 inches but many wish to continue using it longer because it really is that comfortable. The cool thing is it's design actually sits at much lower profile in the vehicle seats than the Frontier 90 click tights do. SO it will not block one's rear view to the windows so much and yet is able to far more comfortably fit a larger kid. Anyhow....feel like I'm writing a book now. It's just cool to see someone else caring about car-seat safety as much as we do and so thought I'd pass on some potentially useful information for you. All the best to you and your family.
If the children in forward facing 5 point harnesses are not utilizing the top tether then they would be safer using the frontiers as boosters, they’re also outgrown the harness when their shoulders are above the top slot, Remember the rule is forward facing the harness is at or above, rear facing the rule is at or below. I’m excited to see you wanting them to be the safest they can be just know that at 12 they’re definitely not in danger moving to booster mode and also could be more injured by being in a harness that’s outgrown.

While you state the twins are within the height and weight limits of the Frontier, I believe, from the video, they have outgrown the harness by seated height, as their shoulders are above the harness slots. The two younger boys’ harnesses look similar, although I’m betting their seat back can raise up another notch. For a forward facing seat, the harness needs to be at or above the shoulders. This does not appear to be the case for any of the boys in your video. In addition, a ffing seat needs to have the top tether attached, which aren’t visible in the back. 1. If there are no top tethers, the older boys would actually be safer in booster seats (if they even need those - see 5 step booster test). Finally, baby girl’s seat base isn’t level against the vehicle seat back. It’s likely tilted from loading and unloading (both her and the boys), but can easily squared up and the seatbelt reinserted in the lock off.
@@michele1083 Not much time, actually. I’ve been educating caregivers about car seat selection, adjusting seats to fit kids, and installing car seats for 20 years. Most of this I could’ve see at a glance. The data from Safe Kids and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia finds 80% of seats are installed/used incorrectly. It’s a safety device so incorrect use can have negative consequences. Top tether use limits head movement in a crash or sudden stop. Kids can outgrow a seat by outgrowing the harness before reaching the standing height limits. She was talking about her “expert” car seat usage, yet it doesn’t appear she’s using them correctly. BTW, I’m not a parent and didn’t question her parenting. PS: I’m not the only one with the same fit and top tether questions.
@@CalebCox-wd7tf I don’t see it as obsessive as much as wanting to keep her kids safe. Many children need a booster seat in order for the seatbelt to fit correctly until 10 or 12 years old, especially smaller kids in captains seats or vehicles with deep seats pans.
Man, this makes me feel so fortunate for having been born in the 70's. I never even had to wear a seatbelt and I rode on the back of motorcycles and pickup trucks. Played with lawn darts and would disappear for hours playing in the creek.

I think if you're embarrassed over that you need to look inward and ask yourself why. Odd thing to be embarrassed over. What about it would be embarrassing to you?
When she said the car seat weight went up to 120lbs my mind was blown. I'm 20 almost 21 and I'm 115lbs-120lbs and I could never imagen sitting in a car seat until I was able to reach the weight limit. If that were the case I'd still be sitting in one to this day. Also if I were in a car seat at 12 I would have been bullied so bad and would resent my parents for making me sit in one. I also remember what it was like to get out of one. I felt like such a big kid and felt like I was actually growing up.
Same and alot of 12 year olds I've met pretty much are twice my size and I'm 22. Last time I weighed myself, I was 120 lbs and I'm 4'11. I haven't rode in a booster seat since I was 8 and been riding in the front seat since I was 11 or so.
@coffee_lover💜 and not all adults are that tall either or driving aged kids. Some adults are way smaller then that too. I'm 4'11 to but I'm around 120 lbs. Lmao, exactly.
@coffee_lover💜 I am UK based, but this still might apply in the US. Ok. It might not be so weird to think that short adults should be in a booster seat (I am 5ft and also under 120lbs). I say this because other things car wise make it seem that way. When I checked out one of my car manuals once it actually said it recommended turning off the front airbag of the person was below 5ft2 because of the risk of injury from the airbag. (You can also have the seat further back). This can be solved by boosting yourself up. Also before the advent of height adjustment for the driver seat, you could get driving cushions that are technically boosters. So yeah, if you are driving and have the seat raised… it’s basically boostered.
@coffee_lover💜 What I’m saying is if it really did go up to 120lbs, like she said it did, I’d still have to sit in one even though I’m an adult. I know you can’t put a car seat in the drivers seat that’s why I said it. I’m pointing out how ridiculous it would be if you kept you kid in a car seat based on just weight because they may never reach that weight. Like me. That’s all I’m saying.
Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat
I’ve stopped using car seats when I was around 7 or 8 since I out grew them and I was too tall for a booster seat at the time. I was around 7 or 8 when I started sitting in the front seat. We’re talking about before the 2010s timeline. I used to have my older brother’s hand-me-down 90s infant carrier car seat back in 1997. I still remember using the 90s overhead shield car seat up to kindergarten (early 2000’s timeline).
If Chris, Zac or Michael go somewhere with friends in their parents' car, do they just forgo the car seat I assume? I don't have kids so always wonder how this works when kids use car sears longer now.
Well I kind of got an answer from an insta story video from the other day where their van was out of commission and they were using another car and Zac and Michael were not in car seats (Owen and Chloe were, Chris wasnt in the car, sorry if I mixed the twins up). But I assume Zac and Chris will be moving out of them soon if they haven't already. Sounds like they're willing to make exceptions.
Growing up in the south I can’t imagine being 12-13 in a car seat. My grandpa taught my brothers to drive a Mule cart around the farm at 12. Hell, I was driving my daddy’s car at 15. I’m gone keep my mouth shut. Do as you please. … 🤦🏽♀️
I was driving four wheelers and stuff by myself at 9 and forget the booster seat unless another adult was riding with us I was riding in the front seat with my dad

if their feet can touch the ground without the car seat while they are sitting all the way back in their seat, its safe. thats how my mom did it for me at least. i can see that those two boys already almost touch the ground in the seat so they most definitely touch it without. theyre not little kids anymore, they really dont need those car seats. i got out of mine at 10-11 but thats only because i was a shorter and lighter person.

This is so interesting, I have never seen anything like this before, nearly 13 years old in car seats. No harsh judgment here, just fascinated. I remember you uploaded a video years ago: why 9 year old Alyssa still rides in a seat. Where I come from this isn’t normal, and I would have been teased about it lol. I hope the boys are comfortable and not too cramped.
it’s not normal anywhere. in fact, at this point its far more dangerous to be using these car seats then to not use them. i feel bad for these kids, they’re in for a nasty surprised once they enter the real world without their smothering mother.
@@elsie26 lol this video is just about carseats. How do you know the mother is harming them, do you live with them? Please stop and be respectful thanks.
Its crazy how carseats change over time. When I was a toddler in the early 2000s, one of the carseats i used was the Evenflo Scout 1998. It was blue and had what looked like a rollercoaster restraint.
I think it’s a great idea and I understand why you still have them in car seats however, they’ve clearly grown way out of the seats making it more unsafe for them to be in it then in a regular seat
Tracy Podritz the weight capacity yeah sure, but it is obvious they’re too tall, the shoulder straps are coming from below their shoulders meaning they’ve grown past the size for the seat. Maybe they fit in the height range but they have long torsos so the proportions are no longer going to guarantee them maximum safety. By this point there’s no benefits of having them in a car seat over a regular seat if not more dangerous
That is the dumbest thing I've heard!! My younger sister is sixteen and under 100lbs, and has her license. She has been out of a car seat for years. I feel so bad for your poor kids! Also, I've heard stories about car seats failing and kids breaking bones and worse. Sticking your 12 year old kids in a car seat isn't going to guarantee their safety in the car accident.
What 7 is a fine age to be in a car seat The people who where mean to you were cruel 😡 Sorry you had to experience that I was in a car seat until I was 11. No one bullied me for it.
@@babyperi6821 back then 7 was the average age kids stopped being in a car seat. Because where I live, 7 is the age where they can sit without one. So parents stopped enforcing it. “There’s a reason race car drivers wear a 5 point harness” that being said the attachment point for the harness should not be below their shoulders, which 3/4, almost all have the harness below their shoulders, also, they have roll cages. If you’re that worried in an accident why isn’t your van fitted with a roll cage and upgraded crash bar. Those are the true life saving features
I checked the manual and it is not the 1” rule (normally for rear facing only) it’s the ears have to be below the top of the seat (normal for forward facing and high back booster seats). I do believe both boys head ready may be able to be moved up a notch or 2. Normally the rule is to max out by height or weight whichever comes first. The boy up front can definitely be raised and has a good amount left to be able to raise
@@bubbles7398 totally right on the 1" rule, can't believe I messed that up. I'll blame pregnancy brain. Lol possible the head rests can go up, but she believes the seats go to 120lbs, and that is only when used as a booster. The harness only goes to 90lbs and also has an overall height limit of 58".
I used a booster seat until I was 13 because I was super short and only weighed 70 lbs so the fact that people are hating is so annoying to me. The reason they are in car seats is because they don’t weigh enough
The five point harness is the safest way for ALL occupants to travel in a vehicle regardless of age(past rear facing age) height and weight. Unfortunately adding 5 point harnesses would increase the price of a vehicle and make it difficult to install car seats
Imagine how embarrassed those kids would be when they have to explain to their friends that there mom or dad has to drive them because they are in car seats oof 😅
I would consider letting them choose whether they want to sit in one or not. If it’s a safety thing then they should be fine but if your that worried then maybe look for smaller ones so that way it doesn’t look obvious that they are sitting in a car seat. I’m just worried about their options and what they think about the whole thing. Communication is key as they say.

I have always watched you when I was seven and that was 5 years ago since I'm 12 now. I got older so I stopped watching you guys but I watched this and I had no clue you had a baby girl. Owen has got so big. Thank you for the great memories
I remember when I was 8 we went in this trip with my mom, my brother, my moms friends and two kids, and me. And the two other kids ages were 7&9. And the 7 year olds car seat wouldn’t come off of the seat but the 9 yr olds seat could. And the 7 yr old and my brother wanted to sit in the very back seats. (my brother was 12 at the time) So me and the 9 yr old sat in the middle row where the car seats were. After the first day of me hating that car seat I had to sit in, me and the nine yr old just sat in the back bc I won’t be caught dead in that seat. I stopped sitting in a booster seat at 7 I believe. 12 is ridiculous.
You’re clearly experienced parents but there’s nothing wrong with seeking outside help to make sure your kids are as safe as possible. I’d recommend hiring a car seat specialist to help you make sure everyone’s seat is properly secured/at the right height. If they let you film them and some easy pointers it would be great for your viewers to see as well (and would likely help parents everywhere in getting their children to wear their chest clips properly). Just some food for thought :)
I can't blame or hate on them for putting their 12 year old kids in proper car seats. They're parents so of course they'd want to keep their kids safe, it's a natural thing usually. Lol
Age doesn't matter safety always first nothing wrong with keeping your kids extra safe especially in vehicles, good question, ignore stupid comments or jokes , eventually will grow out of em
I was already riding in the front seat when I was 12, and believe it or not I started doing so 3 days after my 12th birthday on August 4th 2008 as my 12th birthday was August 1st 2008 as I was born on August 1st 1996. I was exclusively in the back seat from a baby until 11 years old.
It’s actually more dangerous for them to be in a car seat at that age then being without one, they are designed for lighter and shorter children. during a crash the 5 point harness puts pressure on critical parts of the body and can cause worse damage.
Its nearly sickning that 12 and 13 year old boys are STILL IN CARSEATS if i was still in a car seat and one of my friends saw me i would litterly DIE I think they are old anough to have commom sence i think these parents just don't want there kids to grow up

As in they May me be underdeveloped mentally to “ speak out” . 🤨I feel for ya’ little ones but, your parents do what they think is best. 🥴

How many times did you hit the pause button on this video so you could tell another mother how much more you know about momming than her. Pathetic. 😪

@coffee_lover💜 You can 100% turn off airbags in the US.

I think it’s a great idea and I understand why you still have them in car seats however, they’ve clearly grown way out of the seats making it more unsafe for them to be in it then in a regular seat
She literally said that they still fit in the height and weight capacity of the seats they’re using..
