This is probably the most difficult part of running long efforts. Love videos like this, because it gives insight into what works for other people & gives you something new to test a lot of the times.
Coke definitely fixes most nutrition screw ups. That and watermelon are my go to at an aid station when shit has hit the fan. I think what a lot of people don't understand is the body will prioritize fuelling your muscles over your brain, so if your mood is drops (or the brain chucks a toddler hissy fit) or you start tripping up you need to get some carbs down to help things along.
G’day Luke. Thanks for the integrity and keep saying no to discount codes. We can always buy during a sale. I like Huma gels the Chia base keeps the stomach feeling full for longer.
Oh the black dr has served so many so well! What are your thoughts/experience with straight up lollies. Carbs per g they aren’t too different to chews & carbs per $ they win hands down. I’ve just started testing the theory & so far it ain’t great but that could also have been heat & shit legs 😂 Ever done much running on cheap sugar?
I think the 2:1 glucose:fructose science is pretty solid. It might be a case of paying ten times the price for a marginal gain, but that’s pretty much how I live my whole life 😂
How did you increase your tolerance for carb intake? Just fuel for every run, or just long runs? Does fueling with carbs in general work or do you try and stick to the exact nutrition race plan you will use?

I hesitate making them because what works for one person might be completely wrong for another. Just my opinion, but this certainly works for me.

Carbs make everything better! It’s wild how much your cognition suffers after hours of running.
Love the insights you are sharing here. Eating on long runs remains a challenge for me. But as you said, tolerance can be trained!
Stick at it and I’m sure you’ll find what works. Thanks!
Quality advice! Thanks mate! Always find it interesting how much people are actually consuming.
No dramas! Good luck with your eating. 👍
Loved this … great advise and for me made a huge difference upping my carbs both training and racing
Success! Good job. 👍

So good you found something that works for you! Thanks mate.
Thanks for the vid. Good information, not preachy. Cheers.
Cheers mate! 🤙
Great video
Cheers! 🤙
This was a new approach to me, taking in huge amount of carbs in one go. Maybe I need to test.
Start slow, ease into it, but this approach certainly works for me. Good luck!

Hey luke, love the vids keep them coming. Do u aim to hit the same 120g carb per hour during training aswell? On long runs for example?
Yeah for sure. Every long run I practice race nutrition. I don’t usually eat on runs
@@lukewbarrett cheers luke all the best at buffalo mate
hey luke, do u chock the entire 90g gel in like the first like 2-3 mins after each hour or slowly consume it over like 30mins. asking for a friend x
I actually timed a 90g gel consumption halfway through the GPT100. 21 seconds! I don’t rush it, but straight down the hatch it my tactic.

Just fuel for every run, or just long runs? Does fueling with carbs in general work or do you try and stick to the exact nutrition race plan you will use?
I used Precision on all my long runs. Just took a measured progression to increasing my intake, working my way up over a few months.
This is my first time watching, loved the content but felt like I was watching with cataracts. I’ll still be going thru the back catalogue tho!
Hopefully just my dirty lens and not cataracts. 😂 Cheers!
With the 90g gels… do you put one down in one go, or do you spread the gel out over an hour? (I’m guessing they are a considerable size!)
Straight down the hatch! Gone in 30 seconds.
@@lukewbarrett wow! Ok, I’m gonna give these bad boys a try as I build into my next ultras 👍
