VCU @ UConn 1988 NIT Quarterfinals

UConn defeated VCU 72-61 in the quarterfinals of the NIT. UConn (18-14) wasn't able to put VCU (23-12) away until the final three minutes, however, as the Rams were able to stay in contention despite high-decibel cheering from a packed UConn Field House crowd of 4,801.
VCU senior Phil Stinnie finished with 25 points (10 of 19 from the floor including three three-pointers), but the UConn's zone defense allowed only one other VCU player (Chris Cheeks with 10) to reach double figures.
