I love how you recognized the Buffy/Angel theme in the end of the episode!! Not a lot of reactors pay any attention to any of the ships' love themes in the series. I think you should continue keeping an ear out for recurring love themes. BtVS has the best.
This episode shocked me to the core when I saw it, but everything aligns perfectly and when you do a rewatch you can see how Angel is still really there. Solid performances all around in this one!
@@Talisguy oh I'm pretty sure Xander didn't expect it. But Xander does bug him! And Angel had to stay in character... So for Angel it was a win-win... 🤣
I remember being so glad to see that it all was just a fake act because I was thinking that it cheapens the whole Angelus in season 2 thing to do a quick rehash because fans or whoever wanted to see more of Angelus. Like the way they had to bring back more vampire Willow because it was such a huge hit with the fans .
Girl, do you realize that's not how it works, right? They didn't bring back willow because fans like it. It was a few apisodes after. In the case of angel i get it but vampire willow wasn't brought back becuse fans liked her lol. What do you think they did, checked twitter?
@@Square-ow7oqJoss Whedon has no problem finding out what fans liked and then taking their emotions and using them against the fans feelings. He knew that real tragedy and triumph comes with Passion. @williambowman2326 gurl idk wth are you talking about. I meant that that's not how tv works. Faith saying the Mayor made Sunnydale for demons to feast on makes me think he's the one that put up the school sign that let Angelus come in and kill Jenny among many others
@@Square-ow7oqTrue. At the least, he might have chosen to build the high school on the hellmouth. All that teenage angst would be feeding energy to the hellmouth and feeding off it. It would explain all the weird stuff happening at school since it's the epicenter.
Enemies was a super episode where the arc of the show kept building towards Graduation Day. Again we see Faith kill the Demon in cold blood, as Angel had said previous once she had the taste for killing she would not stop. The twist with Angel pretending to have turned again to Angelus was superb. Faith realising at last what she is up against is brilliant. The build up to the finale in S3 is incredible. All is gradually being revealed with the Mayor and Faith against The Scooby Gang. The second half of S3 is really when BTVS became a stellar show! George you gotta watch the last two together if you can, two stunning episodes for The Finale.
Personally, I think Angel was projecting when he said Faith had a taste for killing. Faith killed Allen genuinely by accident. The reason she so easily kills the demon is because he’s a _demon._ And I think she feels so remorseful about the accident and so powerless to know how to handle it and cope, that she puts on a facade that she doesn’t care, and plays into the villainy. Because if she can convince others she isn’t bothered, she might be able to convince herself. She’s in extreme denial. The Mayor, who begins to genuinely love and care for her as a daughter, encourages her progressively evil behaviours, because he’s evil, and she, like a child who has never experienced real and sincere parental love, wants to make him proud. And the validation she receives from him removes the remorse for the new evil deeds she performs. It’s a terrible cycle.
@@rcbuckets I think one of the most stressful elements of being without power is the constant anticipation, hoping every moment that the lights will come on.
Angel and Xander don't like each other, but knocking him out was a way to protect him, if Faith got her hands on him he'd be dead. Angelus would have definitely killed him, that was the biggest clue for me.
When I first watched this I remember being a bit disappointed that they were bringing Angelus back again. Then I noticed Boreanz was playing a bit differently from his previous Angelus and got suspicious. Boreanz playing Angel playing Angelus.
@@GeorgeAlexander3110 NICE! Angel is pretty much its own story, but Buffy is an incomplete story without watching Angel. Soooo much to discuss as seasons of Angel progress❣
Definitely one of my faves as well. Love a good double cross. I kind of expected you to guess it since you kept wondering whether Faith was duping the Mayor.
If I remember correctly, that forehead kiss Faith gave Buffy was actually supposed to be a kiss on the lips in the original script, but the network vetoed it. Very a la Angel in Innocence.
Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that Faith and "Angelus" had sex? I know, I know...there's canon. But. She tried, and was more than willing. She was both curious about having sex with a vampire and(bonus) it would be taking something from Buffy. "I've got tricks Buffy doesn't know yet." Er...no doubt at all. They fought, and that makes her horny. And hungry. She mounted him(and was wriggling) and they started making out...fade to black. Why would she stop? When we see them at the Mayor's, she is hanging all over him, and looks like the (post-coital)cat that ate the canary. From Angel's POV, if he didn't play along, It would be out of character, and Faith wouldn't buy it. Because, why wouldn't Angelus do it? It would hurt Buffy, which is his most favorite thing in the world; It would open a way to hurt Faith, which would be delightful in its own way and, well...she was there. I think the devastation Buffy felt wasn't over them kissing, it was realizing what successfully fooling Faith required.
Faith forcing Angel into having sex with her , similar to Xander in The Zeppo Effect makes some sense and has been kicked around. It definitely would not have brought out Angelius , it would be something Faith would have wanted, and Angel would be backed in a corner. However there will be events, situations, and scenes that does not add up t o this event happening.
I could see him just throwing her off him like he did when she kissed him, which is why I'm guessing they showed that part first,to show that Angelus was more interested in killing and torturing etc.? He also says "you thought you'd bring me back and I'd be your boy toy,it doesn't work like that" I don't know, I could see him flinging her off and saying "let's go see the real power then" then?
