    I like that Dave calls it like it is. When people's lives and well being are on the line, there isn't time to make someone feel better by stroking their ego or coddling them. He's straight forward, he doesn't mince words but he isn't rude or insulting. If something was a stupid decision, he says it was a stupid decision. But making this significant of a change in lifestyle and finances don't have time for coddling. I like him. I started listening to him earlier this year and now, we have baby step 1 completed and we're working on baby step 2. I've never had a savings in my life. It's empowering.

    First things first. Check with your states department of labor to check their license to collect in your state. Next, signature confirmed Cease and Desist letter to the credit card company/collection agency. Finally, home recording system for your phone. If they call continue to call you can negotiate with them the money they owe you after you sue them. Then you can settle the debt as you seem fit.

    I just signed up for one-they have all of my accounts and say they will structure it and negotiate for me for $250 a month. They have my checking account info but the way I understand it, it's better for one group to have my account info than 4 or 5! It beats $250 sure beats $500-700 a month just doing minimums/late payments. I've read the packet and saw all of the fees even if I'm 90% sure it's not 100%.. I'm a different person now than I was when I racked up these charges. I just want to be accountable and own it, praying for peace with this! Best regards, Dave it's been a while since I've listened. I'm without a car right now and just upside down in it. Pray I'm on the up and up.

  • @DanJNigro

    I can't believe he didn't mention the removal of the collection remarks on her credit report. BETTER advice would be make sure when you pay and settle with debt collectors that they agree to remove the remark from your credit report because if you don't specifically agree to that, 99% of the time they will just leave the remarks as "collections paid" which is just as damaging as having an unpaid collection remark on your credit report. How come that was missing from his advice to her? That is SO important, how can you ignore a poor credit score? it will cost you thousands.....See that is the valuable insight and advice you won't find or get from Dave Ramsey since he's so anti-ANY kind of debt, even mortgages.

      settle debt vs unpaid collections, is much better. Especially after about 6-12 months of being settled. Yes try n see if you can remove it and a lot of times if it's settled, they won't even bother responding to the dispute and it will be deleted anyway. But, once it is settled, they can no longer potentially sue u. Plus most lenders would much rather see a settled debt, than one still in collections. For sure though, try to negotiate it to be removed as part of you settling the debt.

    I received a letter for debt settlement but it states. "This letter is to confirm the opportunity to resolve your account for less than the full Current Balance (shown above) by paying the amount detailed below. Pursuant to our agreement, payment in the amount
    of $240.00 is due in our office. " This doesn't sound like a settlement letter. other than just a payment. any responses as what a settlement letter should state?

    You know, I love Dave's insights, but sometimes he is so judgmental. The world isn't all numbers, or black and white.... This being said, using his methods and a very good debt settlement company that worked a lot with me, I settled $54,000 in credit card debt in 2 years, for a total of a little over $18,000. I am totally credit card debt free now. Once I get rid of my student loans... I will be so much better again.

  • @thomasjoseph5876
    @thomasjoseph5876 7 лет назад +9

    Dave had me up to the point of never having debt. Debt can be a viable and valuable tool in bettering your personal situation, business options and giving you additional Tax Credits. But bad debt can get you into trouble. Creating debt by buying Ho-Ho's at the local Walmart is Bad Debt. Getting a Home Mortgage to purchase a stable and secure place to live and thereby giving you tax credits is a form of Smart or Good Debt as long as it is within your means of paying and coming up with a plan to continue to pay it if your financial situation changes. Buying a safe vehicle for yourself and/or family is a necessity if you don't have the option of public transportation. But with any and all Good Debt, you MUST be realistic and realize you have limits within your budget. Whereas others may be able to afford that brand new $70,000 Ford Expedition, you might need to settle for that $8,000 Ford Expedition with 150,000 miles on it.
    Debt is only a bad thing if we create from things that we can live having without, like Ho-Ho's from Walmart, or if we exceed the limits of our Family or Personal Budgets.

    • @thomasjoseph5876

      Ho-Ho's are great, you just don't want to put $900 worth of Ho-Ho's on the credit card. I know some Liberals that are addicted to Ho-Ho's but they know not to create bad debt with Ho-Ho's so they do Blow Jobs of the old men at the Nursing home for Ho-Ho money. Now they complain of not being hungry enough to eat the Ho-Ho's after they get off of "Work" LOL.

    A contract for permanent employment came through promising relocation upon start date.
    was a bait and switch.
    Once we drove 12000 miles out west, (costing us over 3k) and started the job, the contract house said they couldn't uphold the reimbursement costs..!!! had to continue work. So did.
    paid 4k to move into a rental home, signed a 1 yr lease. Contingent upon signed work contract.
    4 months following, I finished the project, the day following completed project, which was in excellent condition, I was let go.
    Gave our property Management offical notice. Left place in better than move in conditions, with pictures to prove that.
    The leasing office kept the 4k, charged us 1800 more. Placed account in collections and now Albuquerque collections is charging us interest. The account is 1k more than the original amount.
    Is this even legal? Do they know how hard it is to earn 1k? What should we do?
    Please help..

      From my experience (just paid off a couple hospital bills) I told the collectors in a conversation over the settlement, that I will not pay anything unless the change reflects on my credit report immediately. They wrote it down on our settlement letter I signed it, they signed it and then I made the payment... Few days later it was removed. Good luck to you.

  • @firstnamelastname-ve9gj
    @firstnamelastname-ve9gj 5 лет назад

    He/they never talk about if these credit card debts are with tons of interest on them (as in how much is principle and how much is interest fees) -- and will the collections agency cut down the principle owed or just take off the interest fees and late fees, etc? So is it 30 cents of the dollar related to the total amount due (with principle, fees, etc) or is he saying that's for the original amount of money the person charged?

    Hey Dave Ramsey. I have a situation I’d love to be on your show. How do I call? It’s regarding 11k in medical debt only. Being rejected twice now to get a home loan because of the number of collections. I have money saved plus a big down payment that’s being given as a gift by a family member. I have over 15 separate collections in medical debt. Do I just offer to settle those debts at 25 cents on the dollar??? My loan officer says if I can handle my medical I could be in a house in a couple months. What do you suggest?
