    that top 6 wasn't far placement wise save ipswich as a Norwich fan was certainly thinking ipswich could definitely be in the promotion mix just because they seemed to have the same vibe we had when we went up from league 1

    I got excited as a stoke fan after the first few weeks of the season when we looked like we were finally going to be decent. Beat poor old rotherham 4-1 then 6-1 in league and cup in the first few weeks which seemed a lot more impressive at the time than it does with hindsight. 🤭
    I daresay we've got a core of TOP championship players (Bae/Burger/Manhoef) and, with a strong summer window, have every chance of transforming into playoff contenders next year. This league is so tight that the difference between 18th and 8th is paper thin; but this is stoke we're talking about so we're just as likely to spend millions in the summer on strong, exciting players, and then finish 21st.

    What threw a spanner in the works was the rise of Ipswich! Incredible performances from a neutrals perspective, and if they keep
    McKenna, I also think they will do well in the Premier League. I have a feeling they will bring in quality next season

    39 points for QPR was very generous. Never imagined 56 from this squad but Sir Marti got them to all buy in. January clear out of the deadwood helped us and Birmingham 😂

    I think Plymouth would have finished there if they had kept Schumaker as manager. The few months they had Foster as his replacement were a disaster and it was only sacking him and bringing in a caretaker who would play the senior players, that saved them.

    This year more than most, it feels the teams who overperformed and underperformed were mostly down to who made good and bad midseason managerial decision.
    Good: QPR, Wednesday, Norwich (not sacking Wagner)
    Bad: Sunderland, Birmingham, Millwall, Huddersfield, even Rotherham

    • @Gnaf-mm5rs
      @Gnaf-mm5rs Месяц назад

      Very much agree with you. Speaking as a Plymouth fan we would never have been in so much trouble had we not appointed Foster. Of course if Stoke hadn't taken Schumacher they may well have gone down.

    Predicted 54 points for Town. In the event it was 96. I thought they would do top 6 but was not sure beyond that. The first game at Sunderland gave an indication of the standard they were at. I have only one complaint about the way they are viewed. Some people think they are just average players who are well coached. This is simply not true and one of the pleasures of watching them is seeing how they have all improved

  • @bugscorb
    @bugscorb Месяц назад

    As an Ipswich supporter, I didn't see this coming. I thought we would do well (I predicted 8th) but I never dreamed that top 2 would be realistic. Even when we were X amount of points clear from 3rd, me and most of us town fans didn't think we would stay in the autos. The talent that Leeds, Southampton and Leicester have in their squads is bonkers at Championship level.
    I would also like to add that we are the only team in the top six that isn't receiving parachute payments. This is fantastic in terms of our achievement, but worrying at the same time for the integrity of the English football pyramid if this trend continues.

    hello guys Does anyone know why Wayne Rooney became manager at Birmingham? I heard birmingham was ranked 6th before he came, but I wonder why the board changed it.

    • @nicksyb5920
      @nicksyb5920 Месяц назад +2

      Pretty sure they thought he'd be more high profile. John Eustace (manager at the time) is pretty unknown outside the Championship (and even within the Championship for many people) so they might have thought he wouldn't attract the players they wanted to move them forward. He's also quite a pragmatic manager and they may have wanted to see more attractive football.
      Also most people who follow Championship football knew that Liam Rosenior had more involvement in Derby's relative improvement than the manager, Rooney, when they had those points deductions and nearly managed to beat the drop. But coming from overseas, they may not have realised that and just heard that Rooney did a great job there.
