The tips are great. Also, try having a routine the last 30 minutes before going to sleep such as putting the phone down, turning off the computer and getting some water. Your routine can vary, but doing this every day will let your mind and body know it's time to fall asleep. Soothing sleeping music can also calm down your brain from overthinking and relax your senses into sleep.

I don't have much trouble sleeping, my issue is trying to get up. I set a minimum of 10 alarms and still end up sleeping through all of them. Please help, Doc!
Austyn Hernandez fuck up your sleeping routine by traveling to the other side of earth. Stay there for a week+ then go back and experience a new sleeping routine
I used to struggle with that a lot until I started sleeping on a consistent schedule (I didn't choose to, I had kids) - same time to bed, same time up in the morning, with a good 8 hour stretch between. This means not sleeping in on weekends. It locks in your circadian rhythm so that your body knows when to expect being up every day according to how your hormones are synced with sunlight. I've been getting up at 7am consistently for about 3 years and I feel like I can get up so much easier now. The few times I've slept in on a saturday, I felt terrible for days after and I struggled to wake up the next few mornings.
Tbh I had that too and I can tell you it's more about motivation than anything. As a student I constantly fell back asleep after setting the alarm back to snooze, because I just cba to get up and go to school. But having a job that's just a lot of fun to me with nice co-workers made it so much easier.
That was me also , but once i understood the concept that "15-30 min nap is REFRESHING / Nap of more than a hour is SHUT OFF " i changed the duration !!!
yeah same, if i dont get morethan an hour in a nap it feels like I never napped and woke up more tire than before, if I want to fix my sleep I just sleep deprive myself and bam i can sleep good and long through the night again.
Dr Mike, I love how informational your videos are. It's always easy to understand what you explain. Can you give some tips about over training and how to prevent as well as recover from it?
Thanks a lot - these are some really great tips that I could really use! However, in regard to pets: I guess mileages vary. My cat sadly passed away last year, however, when he was still alive, he slept with me for years and not once did he disturb me in any way. I never ever lost any sleep or felt fatigued by him or whatever: he slept me with me peacefully.

What about oversleeping? Is that just as bad as sleep deprivation? WHY HAVENT U ANSWERED THIS DOCTOR MIKE ITS BEEN A MONTH. haha it’s whatever we luv u
Can you make up for sleep lost during the weekdays over the weekend? For example, if someone sleeps 5 hours a day during the weekdays, and 12 hours a day on the weekend, does that equally assist brain function? Or should it be a consistent sleep pattern all the time?
Thanks for the tips! I've bin struggling to sleep those days because of school (i'm already done with school though) during school weeks i sleep for 5-7 hours which is totally not good but if i try going to bed early it never works.
You got me! Here I am watching your video about sleep at 11:30 at night, when I should have been asleep 2.5 hours ago. Have to get up at 5am. Typical me, asleep by midnight if I’m lucky. Old habits. Hard to break.
To get rid of all our sleep problems: Establish a consistent sleep routine by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends, to regulate your body's internal clock and improve sleep quality.

Morena Te was right, thinking about an angelic features is the best way to erode negativity in one's mind. Since April 2021 I had been practicing it, and it is very effective 😃
Thanks Dr. Mike, I’ve always had trouble sleeping especially during exam times due to nervousness, and I hope I can try some of this out. By the way, as a hopeful future doctor, currently a high schooler, just want to say how I’ve just managed to secure one of the volunteer positions at my local hospital to try it out and I am elated.
I have and do not want to take medication. I'd prefer to exhaust (pun intended, sort of) all natural methods first. I do walks in the evening with our dog, turn the air down to 68-70 every night, and still nothing. This has been ongoing for a long time.
Misty Fugate sleep is so important. Only 2 hours a night is terrible for your health. Weight gain, excess cortisol, stress, lack of productivity, aging, and sleep deprived psychosis. If so doctor mikes tips don’t work, find a professional that can at least introduce you to a more natural substance to help you fall asleep. If I’m desperate for sleep, I’ll take 1/4 of a melatonin. Or valerian root. I don’t take these things every night. Just when I’m trying to get enough sleep and want to preserve my health the next day. Good luck!
I do yoga in the morning before work and walk our dog 1-2 miles a night. It's frustrating, but I think because I've been doing this for so long, it has become my norm.
After I finish my work at 10 pm , I watch your videos both on you tube and Facebook. I don't get time during the day to watch these . When else do I watch them 🤔😜✌️😭🩺
Owen Tustinfuchs well u see theres this thing called NOT SLEEPING EARLY , therefore if your body needs 7-8 hours of sleep and your sleeping at 6am then OBVIOUSLY u will sleep through your day and afternoon causing you to stay awake at night.
Same... Just had a few hour sleep during the day and now I'm not gonna be able to sleep for hours and it's 0.25 now. Gonna have to fix it at some point.
I had terrible anxiety, mostly when I slept, for many years. I would fall into bed, exhausted, only to immediately think about everything from grades to nutrition. I ended up with a few hacks: 1)My mom had recommended to listen to books or television shows, but when I did that I would stay up to hear what happened. I finally found the solution: Listening to books in other languages. Personally, I listen to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in French. It distracts me from my fears, but doesn't keep me up. 2)Remove the clock. It makes each minute feel stressful, and you get even more nervous. 3) Create a schedule and stick to it. Like really. Do not change it. I even set an alarm for when to start going to bed.
ADHD specific sleep tip! Listening to something that is interesting enough for your brain not to be screaming for stimulation, but not so exciting it keeps you up is great. I like listening to chill RUclips streams or books I've read before. I can do all things right and still not fall asleep because lying still and waiting for sleep is boring and ADHD brain does not like boring
I don't have ADHD, but I really hate boring stuff. I'd like to do it but i don't want to lower the battery of my tablet as it takes about 3 hours to fully charge ssssssssssssssssssso- maybe later idk
Here's an easy method. *Step 1:* Find a friend. *Step 2:* Give them a brick. *Step 3:* Have them throw it at your head. *Step 4:* Fall into a coma and have a nice, long sleep. Edit: If you’re having trouble on step 1, like many others are, throw the brick up and have it land on top of your head.
Me at 12am: *watches Dr. Mike's reaction video to The Good Doctor* Me at 1am: DAMN I CAN'T SLEEP Me at 1:36am: *discovers this video while eating a burger*
Very instructive, But there's something that felt wrong about caffeine, half life doesn't mean that it'll take twice that time to fully eliminate, It means that it will take that time to eliminate 50% of the previous quantity. So 6h to eliminate 50%, then 6h other hours to eliminate 50% of the remaining 50% and so on. So way more than 12h to achieve a negligible quantity, that's why it's highly recommended to drink caffeine as soon as possible during the day. Also I would've appreciated if you'd given the time before bed when we should decrease light and blue light because "before sleep" or "during the evening" is not very accurate. And i see different opinions on that everywhere. Otherwise, I loved that video!
I have definitely had moments of micro sleep when driving extremely tired. They are super scary and end with me swerving pretty bad. I make sure to never drive that tired anymore. Not worth it.
I agree about the sleepy driving thing. I once had to drive 60 miles on like 4 hours and was ok (mostly because I was excited), but on the way back I was really struggling. Right about the time I saw the rest stop sign I blanked out (probably micro sleep) and when I came too I was like ‘I have to stop or I’ll die’. Wound up sleeping like 45 minutes and felt 100% better. *use rest stops*
I recently did an at home sleep study and my doctor went over it with me and referred me to an actual sleep doctor as my results were severe sleep apnea and my oxygen dropped down to 60%. Can you do a video on sleep apnea as I think more and more people are struggling with it. Basically causes and/or other information about it.
I have no heart to move my cats away from my bed or room before sleep. I love to cuddle with those fuzzy balls and waking up with those sniffings on my face.
Cats purr at a pitch and frequency that increases relaxation. When I don’t have a cat handy, I use a noise app with the sound of a cat purring to help me fall asleep.
MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT VACCINES SO PEOPLE CAN LEARN:( so many diseases spreading Please explain about the doctor that literally lost his license because he lied about vaccines :(
Guys sleep is so important especially when driving... my dad go into a car accident bc he fell asleep. He’s is perfectly ok now but it is dangerous. Even if it means pulling over to nap for 15 minutes... do it. Being late is not worth your life 🙏🏽 stay safe 😊

Quick tip! Experiment before you go to bed to find the most comfortable sleeping postition. For me, I lay down flat on my back and raise up my arms above my head and rest them on my headboard. This kinda opens the shoulders and relaxes them after a days work.
I expected to be enlightened by info once I open this video but I laughed so hard at that intro. Also thanks for the tips, really needed, much appreciated.
Sleep at night has eluded me from birth. I have multiple friends that when pressed for an answer have said, they "lay in bed and pretend to be asleep." Furthermore they all report that this works! They just wake the next morning after pretending or faking that they were asleep. Mind body connection.
Night Time in a nutshell Stumic: Get up i’m hungry Mouth: Get up i’m thirsty Brain: Get up i’m bored (starts thinking random stuff keeping you up) You: SHUT UP IM TRYING TO SLEEP!!!
1mg of melatonin is the only real effective dose, and that depends on the specific pill formulation. Any more than that disrupts the body's normal reaction to melatonin. Classic case of increased tolerance.

Thanks heaps mate 1 week of trialing all what you have said and everything you’ve said works dropped alcohol sleep products no caffeine after 12 and turn lights all off in room and have the best sleep and wake up fresher than I ever have cheers Mike
Mike: no pets in bed
Me: *looks at cat sleeping next to me* ;-;
Mike: dogs interrupt ur sleep
Me: haha i have a cat *ignores how she meows in my face at 6am*
Ignores how they lie at the foot of your bed and stops you from stretching out fully
My cat:steals my pillow
My dogs fine, but she likes to look at and lick my foot.
Imma get a cat but have 2 dogs so wish me luck T-T
My dog gets a solid 16 hours of sleep sometimes like he only gets up when i get up so its ok
Thank you for another fantastic video! Would you do a Vlog style video or a follow me around video? 😊
I’ve tried doing a blog style video but people weren’t that hyped for it :/ maybe if we get some upvotes going???
Doctor Mike 😩my comment will get lost in the crowd. Maybe you can do a poll 🙊is that possible?
2:17 is the most relatable part of this video
me: about to go to sleep
my spine: time to get funky
Lol
Morena Te was right, thinking about an angelic features is the best way to erode negativity in one's mind. Since April 2021 I had been practicing it, and it is very effective 😃
Am I the only one who gets sleepy in the day but when it comes night they cant sleep at all. Like wtf?
I all to well know that feeling
No
Welcome to the club.
I got that feeling
Sometimes hehe
Sleep is something that eludes me every night. Averaging 2-2 1/2 hours every night is definitely taking its toll. Thank you for these tips!
Misty Fugate 2 to 2 and half is horrendous! Why don't you consult a physician?
I have and do not want to take medication. I'd prefer to exhaust (pun intended, sort of) all natural methods first. I do walks in the evening with our dog, turn the air down to 68-70 every night, and still nothing. This has been ongoing for a long time.
I'm so sorry. I know how you'd feel when you wake up and see a whole day in front of you without enough sleep.
Exercise makes you tired. try that?
When else do I watch them 🤔😜✌️😭🩺
I've always been staying up late and then sleeping late morning to late afternoon, so this is gonna help!
Ellen Chan if ur sleeping till late afternoon you’re basically nocturnal how tf did u do that
Same here. Biological clock shifted
I ended up with a few hacks:
1)My mom had recommended to listen to books or television shows, but when I did that I would stay up to hear what happened.
Who else is watching at night? 😂
HotChocolateBar watching early in the morning😀
hehe guilty
It’s currently about 2:00 in the morning.
Nope, I’m watching this at very early in the morning
me haha!
This was the first Doctor Mike vid I ever watched.
*This channel since early 2017 jumped to one of my favorites instantly. Doctor Mike.... just **_thank you._** That's the best way I can put it.*
ADHD man🥲! Thankyou!
I do that it works, I usually put in the Joe Rogan podcast on Spotify cause it has a 30 minute timer and I fall asleep almost every time
I do this too.. i think by 10 mins i already sleep.
I don't have ADHD, but I really hate boring stuff. I'd like to do it but i don't want to lower the battery of my tablet as it takes about 3 hours to fully charge ssssssssssssssssssso- maybe later idk
@@Mary.sLb3 Just charge it while you’re listening to it.
😂😂😂
Emphasis in "long"
Never gonna wake up
Nah man

Hol up
oh my, this worked like charm thank you Doc Pogi
What did we do to deserve doctor mike
Gina Ushakov Totally agree!
He's not the doctor we need. He's the doctor we deserve.
Gina Ushakov Be sick 👏
He’s cute 😘
omg I’m so glad he made a video about sleep!!
Me at 12am: *watches Dr. Mike's reaction video to The Good Doctor*

Did you manage to sleep after that?
Elizabeth_ Gonzalez pANO MO NALAMAN APELYIDO KO LANGYA HAHAHSH
Heather Miller nope!
Very instructive,
But there's something that felt wrong about caffeine, half life doesn't mean that it'll take twice that time to fully eliminate,
It means that it will take that time to eliminate 50% of the previous quantity.
So 6h to eliminate 50%,
then 6h other hours to eliminate 50% of the remaining 50% and so on.
I've done that so many times, it's scary, you don't even realize it's happening.
James Fleming I had that happen last year, first time ever. I went and got a sleep study, turns out I had pretty bad sleep apnea.
I’ve done that too. Especially after working a night shift.
I had micro sleep while watching a video because I was very tired and when I woke up I was like wtf did just happen
I have literally driven 20 minutes while asleep... Woke up about 5 seconds from crashing into someone and had to swerve out the way...
Justin Helms. Story of my life.
I feel ya been there
I used to micro sleep tons of times everyday, that was such a hell cuz I couldn't even stay awake for one period so my grades dropped
60 miles took you four hours? Why were you going 20 mph lol
I have been having such a hard time sleeping ever since I was little so I can’t wait to try these and maybe make a video on what helped me!! THANKS 🤪
Fun fact, I couldn't sleep lastnight and when I watched this video I fell asleep. Im sure that wasn't the direction of the video but alwell haha
Mike: Don’t sleep with a dog
Me: Phew, I have cats
I have no heart to move my cats away from my bed or room before sleep. I love to cuddle with those fuzzy balls and waking up with those sniffings on my face.
My dog literally sleeps on me every night. Lmfao get rekt Mike
3:43 He said no pets ;-)
LunarDragon 687 I have both
Cats purr at a pitch and frequency that increases relaxation. When I don’t have a cat handy, I use a noise app with the sound of a cat purring to help me fall asleep.
MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT VACCINES SO PEOPLE CAN LEARN:( so many diseases spreading
Please explain about the doctor that literally lost his license because he lied about vaccines :(
Already made a video on vaccines! Check it out on my channel or just search “vaccines doctor mike”
Fail😂 i look it up, btw i kind of have a crush on you, like everyone
Cote Climent I don't think that antivaxxers are the kind of people who would watch these videos.
EnteiFire4 yeah, but at least some woman may watch it because he is handsome and it counts and helps people explain to others
A channel called Uberdenken already made a good one: ruclips.net/video/P6W2lhRqv_c/видео.html
2:47 - This, my parents used to hate it when i slept with my window opened during winter, I love it cold af and warm up with a toasty blanket.
Guys sleep is so important especially when driving... my dad go into a car accident bc he fell asleep. He’s is perfectly ok now but it is dangerous. Even if it means pulling over to nap for 15 minutes... do it. Being late is not worth your life 🙏🏽 stay safe 😊
unless in an emergency, it's always better to sleep the night and drive early morning then to try to drive at night sleep deprived
Just drive faster
Him: Turn off all electronics.
Me: Then how do I finish watching this???

Next day when you know how to do it now. Or next time

Julie Marie I so feel the same. Getting sleep tips from an actual doctor!! Win win. Also he has created a powerful tool with his channel - giving people free health advice at a time where healthcare isn’t universal.
I feel the same💗💖
Great!
Dr. Mike is an real inspiration for medicos like me. I appreciate your energy🌸. Stay blessed!

You can also use the 4--7--8-- technique :>

Sleep tip?
Fake it til you make it
Sleep at night has eluded me from birth. I have multiple friends that when pressed for an answer have said, they "lay in bed and pretend to be asleep." Furthermore they all report that this works! They just wake the next morning after pretending or faking that they were asleep. Mind body connection.

Could you please do a video on melatonin supplements? Safety, use advice and cautions
1mg of melatonin is the only real effective dose, and that depends on the specific pill formulation.
Any more than that disrupts the body's normal reaction to melatonin.
Classic case of increased tolerance.
