Marcus Camby: Did injuries rob this DPOY of a hall of fame career? | Forgotten Player Profiles

- Marcus Camby spent the best years of his career with the Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets, before bouncing around a few more teams in the twilight of his career, but was an elite defensive presence at every stop. Coming out of UMass with huge expectations, Camby looked primed to fulfill them, but unfortunately, his body started failing him from his first year in the league and never really allowed him to reach his full potential. WHen Camby was young and healthy, he made defense exciting and his length and athleticism made for some highlight plays on the offensive end too. But even with all his injuries, Camby still made 4 all defensive teams, won a Defensive Player of the year and is 12th on the all time blocks list. It leaves one to wonder how good he could have been, if his body would let him.

Slight mistake; The Nuggets actually lost to the Clippers in the 06, playoffs, not the Lakers. That was also the year a 44 win Nuggets team finished as a higher seed than the 60 win Mavs due to division rules guaranteeing the division winner a top three seed.
Aaah damn, I don't know how I messed that up. Thanks for catching that!
@@ForgottenPlayerProfiles Really been enjoying these videos! Camby was always one of my favorite Nuggets players. Would really like to see a video done on Rony Seikaly. He was another center that if it wasn't for injuries, and better luck on the teams he was put on, may have had a bigger career.
Camby is not forgotten his time with the knicks and nuggets both for years had promise for chip and camby was always a very important piece to those teams
Marcus Camby is Anthony Davis’ floor, often injured and disengaged
KG is AD’s ceiling, HOF talent on both sides
I remember seeing the Camby comparison on that draft site, forgot the name.. but AD definitely exceeded the floor lmao
Anthony Davis is nowhere near as good as Camby defensively. A healthy Camby was very Rodman like defensively.
@@saintoflastresorts2272 nowhere near is extreme, I’d say he’s as good
I loved his game he was my starting center always on 2k
You must be extremely lonely in real life.
@@tyrone1544 how
@@tyrone1544 nah I got your moms on all fours slurping and twerkin for my enjoyment I’m good fam she a soul snatcher 💯
@@tyrone1544 you a wierdo wtf?
2k11 camby for my blazers ahhh b Roy and g Wallace big 3 lol Aldridge too
Sorry I'm late- "Camby Man" was very underrated- especially with the Nuggets..
Yeah he body frame wasn't meant for the era he played in. Dealing with the physicality. If Marcus Camby played in this era he would be AD type
Naww Camby was my Dawg but more like Javale McGee
@@qwanjack4556 cut it out he wasn't no Javelle McGee keep your horrible comparison on somewhere
@@michaelallen8112 he'd be more like a modern-day Gobert than AD
@@jamalwalker Just show how feeble minded u are. Rudy Gobert doesn't have not aglity compared to Cambyman. Goofie stuff
Nowhere near the offensive skill or bag of AD
It's actually pretty impressive how he managed to average such a low FG percentage every playoffs.
I think right there with Ben Wallace and Dikembe Mutombo as best defensive big men (I'd rank him below Wallace and Mutombo). Maybe if plsying in today's game he would've contributed more offensively since the game isn't as physical as it was when Camby was in the league
I sure didn’t forget about camby. That was a great Knick season. The most enjoyable ever.
Growing up in Mass, I was always a huge fan of Camby. Ever since him going to UMass
Edit: such a great defender and even had a minor rivaly with Duncan in college
Hey Go UMass! Refuse to lose!
This channel is great! Theres so many great players that have been forgotten ( Glen Rice, Nick van axel, Larry Johnson, Bogues, Richard Jefferson, Ben Wallace, to name a few) I grew up watching these players and its great to see them on here.
Oh yeah Mitch Richmond is another great that is unknown to most.
I was in UMass when Marcus Camby was there. He was fragile. After his freshman first game, he was walking off the court. With nobody near him, he somehow tripped and injured his knee. Was out for two weeks. Kinda like what he did in Toronto in his rookie year.
One of my favorite players of all time!
Great videos! Love the content! I think another good player similar to Camby and make a video on would be Theo Ratliff. Looking forward to your next uploads.
One of my all-time faves.
Nice cat! I'm a cat lover!
Raptor had a squad and didn't even no it reminds me of okc as well
Love these vids. Would love to see Tyson Chandler, Mitch Richmond, or Glen Rice!
Thank you
Just discovered your channel n absolutely love it. U might have already done it, but Id love to see one on Antoine Walker...."Cybertoine"/"Employee number eight....
He was one if the best rising stars in the world during his time in Kentucky and with Boston. He was never a very disciplined player/athlete, and gained weight, went through a ton of money and relationships and in turn it affected his production on the court.
Despite all this Walker remained in the league for quite some time, even winning a championship with Miami. Unfortunatley he ended up bankrupt and never came close to reaching his potential in the league. He had the talent and size to be a first ballot HOFamer.
I used to like "Cybertoine". When he got it going he was good.
I'll never forget the 96 season and watching Kentucky and UMass battle for #1
Man I miss Camby's defense on the Knicks. We lost the finals in '99 but nearly every game was close as hell. If Ewing had been healthy - who knows. Because the only help Camby had was from Kurt Thomas and damn Herb Williams. A healthy but over the hill Ewing possibly would have made a difference against a healthy but over the hill Robinson. Honestly Duncan was just unstoppable in that Finals series. I think he averaged 27 and 14 for the series.
YES💪🏽🏀
Spurs beat that azz boiiii🎉🎉🎉🥂 🏆
@@walterjohnson4813 Yeah they won but it was hardly an easy series for the Spurs.
I loved the minute men , when he was in college.
Camby was that dude
Camby was a defensive beast. If he was on a GSW type team. Playing the Draymond type role. Defense mostly and a lob threat on offense. Sorta like Tyson Chandler did for the Mavs. The year they won the title.
Love the concept of your channel buddy
Dope video much respect I’m a Camby fan. Who made the beat in the back ground? Much respect
Beat is from uppbeat, the link is in the description
Same here. When he was healthy he was great.
Camby might not be a HOF but he had a successful career no doubt!
Its a bit ok for Marcus Camby not being in HOF, but its not ok how Camby never has been an All Star.
I use to see him in play in high school catching alley oops from half court
Can you do a video on Andre Miller?
Baby Richard Pryor 😅
@@walterjohnson4813 😂😂😂😂😂
I had to look to see when this video waa posted lol because an 8th seed just went to the finals again 😂
Do one on Stacey Augmon
Porzingis is the modern day Camby
Can’t see him being a dpoy though
@@AwfulLotOfSmoke Who plays defense in today's NBA?
Myles Turner
Just wish Toronto Raptors never traded him..could of had a young Vince Carter + Prime Camby
Can You make content on John Starks?
I thought his athleticism was underrated during his prime, it wasn’t mention enough as one of the most among centers
13:43 Dude leads the league in blocks but only gets voted to the all defensive SECOND TEAM?? Makes sense.
1st comment camby is a nuggets goat 🐐
The raptors could of been an all time great squad why didn’t they keep the core
Marcus was a 2way beast @ UMass b4 well you know...
Wasn't Cambys mother and sister held hostage during one of those early Knicks playoff series too?
damnnn
In 01
How come his nickname wasnt the Cambyman?
How about an Allan Houston and Ike Austin video? Ike was the Most Improved Player!
AD before AD
I just realised raptors could draft Kobe instead of Camby and they would have Kobe, T Mac and Carter trio
Cambyman was never an offensive threat...but he sure was a dawg on the ball..great defender...king of the back hand block..
I miss Tall guys that can Rebound
That Iverson dunk ended him 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Marcus Camby is in the same category of Kawhi Leonard. Injuries will always cast a shadow of what their careers could of been without the injuries.
That's one of the dumbest takes I've heard in a while. Kawhi is a thousand times the player camby was.
Very similar to AD.
Hartford’s Finest.
He had no post moves … people thought he was better than Duncan at first
Ed O'Bannon... I remember the hype surrounding him and he ended up being a total bust... like Joe Smith had a better career than O'Bannon... yeah, do O'Bannon next.
Camby was nice I remember him in college, but Iverson owned him and the whole 96 draft class.
When he played for portland his old ass would still be blocking a ton of shots i was like him and oden coule have lock the paint no shots allowed but never happened
Please, Al Harrington!
basketball is offense and defense. if we get to glorify offense only players eg; trae young. we should be allowed to glorify the defensive specialists of the sport.
Ok right away not nearly the athlete i described
He was never really dominant except in college
When healthy he could have been
In high school, there was a guy that used to argue with me that Marcus camby was better than Tim Duncan. This was when they were in college. Right before pros. Yes, camby had hype in college and was a very good pro, however, to me, even in college it was obvious who Duncan was.
Bruh, you trippin HARD if you think Melo should have won ROY over Bron 😂😂😂
Melo got into the playoffs first and beat bron in they're first NBA game you gotta go look at the film
@@slicktom300 still doesn't make him better. Look at those rosters and tell me Melo didn't have an all around better squad. Bron was setting records his rookie year
@@conridgecallaway9608 hell yeah melo did have a better team
Camby was so soft
I still have his og raptors jersey i bought in 97
You forgot his great game against the seatlle sonics....where he set a record for the quickest triple double in nba history...against westbrook and Durant...
Dude would get triple doubles with blocks..led the league 4x in blocked shots..
You never once mentioned his 20/20 games..
