Yes, we are stubborn, yes, we had complexes about Western Europe because, having lived for over 40 years under a civilizational influence that was completely foreign to us - Soviet and Russian - we felt like a car starting with the handbrake on. After 1989 it ended and 30 years were enough to shorten the distance. Complexes pushed us forward because we are never satisfied with ourselves. We always blame ourselves for not doing something as well as we could.

Oh yes. I am a Pole and I am (sometimes...) stubborn. But this applies to matters (topics) on which (as we say in Poland ;-)) "I ate my teeth" ;-) I greet you cordially and bless you. ❤
Ps.: There is a cult Polish comedy (movie) that reflects the "Polish spirit", its title is: "Sami swoi". Please, have a look. :-)

All the best, my friend 👍❤️. Remember, Poles 🇵🇱 are open to all good people (no matter where they come from).

Genialne, jest taka polska komedia i tam jest taki tekst: " sąd sądem, ale sprawiedliwość musi być po naszej stronie" i to jest podsumownie tego filmu :-)

About respect... in English, you only have that one word for two different concepts in Polish. There's poszanowanie, the respect everyone is entitled to as a human being, no matter how attrocious they are. Even Putin deserves poszanowanie. And then, there's szacunek. Respect that you earn. A totally different feeling. Something you can tarnish, if not lose altogether, in a single sentence after working years to build it up. Language dictates the width and depth of your perception. Of how you can conceptualize something. Having the same word for both of them diminishes your ability to differentiate between the two. Of course, you could add a qualifier like basic respect vs profound respect, but the issue still stands.
