Beautiful Manila Cathedral! 🇵🇭
I'm loving the fact that, from the areal view, the church is in the shape of a cross ❤✝️💙
Salamat po sa tour❤️❤️💙💙❤️❤️💙❤️💙❤️
Intramuros was once known as the “Little Vatican of the East” because of the seven churches (plus one chapel) ensconced behind its ancient walls, each the home church of a particular religious order.
Santo Domingo, mother church of the Dominican Order, was the first destroyed, by initial Japanese bombardment in late December 1941 as they staged their invasion of the Philippines.
San Nicolas (for the Augustinian Recollects), San Ignacio (for the Jesuits), San Francisco (for the Franciscans), Lourdes Church (for the Capuchins), and Manila Cathedral (for the Archdiocese) were all destroyed in 1945 during the Battle of Manila.
Only San Agustin, the headquarters of the Augustinian Order, survived the war (albeit damaged). The cathedral was rebuilt after the war.
As an American expat living in Metro Manila (NCR), I was pleased to see a segment on the Christian history of this great metropolitan area.
Editorial question: Has anyone given you the *correct* pronunciation of the Pasig River?
Otherwise, I was pleased to see a glimpse of my adopted home. Thank you.
