I love the beauty of the islands and the turqouise water we as tourist see. However I just watched "Maldives the other side" or something. The trash problems there are so huge I was kind of shocked when I just watched that.

Scary situation, Maldives can't really produce anything, agriculture is impossible and there is no industries so they completely depend on tourism (and by proxy of worlds economy).Maybe if Maldives started to host some similar services like Piratebay/Megaupload sites it could be a great move to make some money out of tourism field....maybe adopt bitcoins everywhere in the islands electronic economy could be an awesome alternative for Maldives!

no we have fisherys and tourism. we also produce different kinds of items made from fish. we have lots of income from tourism but we dont fully depent on it. if you dont know about our country then just shut up.

maldives is bigger in size, however 97% of the country is water. only 3% land.. maldives have nearly 1200 island.. 198 is inhabited by local people. and about 100 other island for resorts and other industrial islands,.. population 350k.. capital city is Male'. size of male city is 2sqkm only

I think the Maldives are gorgeous. However, where will they go and what strategy for survival will this wealthy nation pursue given that the Indian Ocean is going to be 20 feet higher within 20-40 years and 240 feet higher total within 100-300 years?

This was an advertisement, not a documentary. I did not come here to hear about how great the country is. I came here to learn about the country's history, economy, and politics, among other things.
Edit: After reading an honest source on the political environment of this country, I have learned that the Maldives has a nasty history of political instability, human rights abuse, corruption, and crackdowns on political dissidence. Hardly surprising, to be honest. I had a hunch that this video was sending a message too good to be true. This video willingly omits all that information in order to paint a rosy picture of a beautiful and flourishing tropical paradise with no problems, just to make tourists feel good about going to that country for vacation. This proves my point: this is an advertisement, not a documentary. Do not watch this video if you are actually looking to learn about the country. It is a shame that they call this video a "documentary" in order to deceive you, the viewer, into believing their picturesque narrative.
