Miller EnPak In Depth Review

- This is the redesigned EnPak released in 2021. Sorry about the length but this machine does A LOT. If you’re looking at using the EnPak for your custom service truck, make sure you get all the way to the COST section at the end. This project shot on a Ford F550 with IMT Dominator equipment but functions would be similar on other chassis and equipment.

I’m not even a service technician, I’m a commercial electrician. I have absolutely zero need or business case for this truck or Enpak but dam if this isn’t the most interesting channel I’ve seen in a long time. You’re an excellent host, you seem to really know your stuff, honest, extremely well researched and experienced. Bravo, excellent video, hats off to you and your team!
THANK YOU. That makes my day brother!! DM us on instagram @qtequipment or email sales@qtequipment.com with your tshirt size and we will send you some swag. THANKS!!!!
Great to see you back This Miller Enpak has an awesome sounding turbo diesel
First comment! Thanks for watching Luis!
i wish i had a rig like that
Thanks for watching! Our team is standing by when you’re ready 😊
Good job Dan
Thanks Steve!
Nice unit but VanAir is cheaper with same support of the vehicle. Don't know if we can support that price! A Peterbilt with a Cummins can last a million miles. No brainier!
Glad you've had good luck with VanAir! We are building a few right now. Good machine, good company to work with. Hopefully we can do a video on them to at some point.
A couple of thoughts, I’ve heard that some up fitters were hooking the enpak up to be able to heat or cool the cab? Are you able to charge cordless batteries, laptop, etc off the outlet? What is the upfitter switch for that you mentioned in the video?
Thanks for watching! Excellent questions.
1) Yes, Miller is offering an option to heat and cool cab. We have not seen one yet but yes, this is available.
2) Directly from Miller: “I always recommend installing an inverter off the chassis battery. This new model A60 has the Chassis Power feature which provides 150 amps charging back to the chassis at idle. Running an inverter provides nice quiet access to 120 volts for those sensitive loads that may be subject to some voltage fluctuations.”
3) For the upfitter switch, we use one of the Ford upfitter switches to simply turn the EnPak on. EnPak won’t work until parking brake is set and this switch is on.
for point #3 that means your ignition has to be on all the time you run the unpack?@@qtequipment
@@topperman4541 I have the EnPak and my truck was equipped with a switch panel that included lighting and beacon switches as well as EnPak enable. I have to first turn the panel on and then turn on whatever function I want before switch the key off. I can then switch the key off and the light or whatever will stay on. If I don’t switch anything on the panel times out and shuts down. The issue I sometimes have is forgetting to de energize power to the EnPak which leaves the switch panel on and it runs the batteries low overnight.
Looks interesting...hope it's not like a backhoe tho...dose everything but not one thing great
Never understood why IMT uses non greaseable pins on there cranes
LOL never heard that backhoe analogy....! Will definately be stealing that one.
Have you ever seen an autocar truck chassis used in a service truck situation? I've never seen anything built to a higher standard for severe duty while still being easily serviceable than an autocar. Also why would someone choose an imt over a maintainer. I operate an imt currently and I have several annoyances with it. However I appreciate the way you approach your work which is a strong motivator to use imt again in the future.
Joe thanks for watching! Autocar is one of the few chassis we’ve never built on but hopefully we will in the future.
Maintainer builds a solid product, no disagreement there. Similar to buying an excavator, there’s a lot of factors at play but we believe one of the main drivers is how comfortable the customer is with the support of the dealer.
The truck equipment world can introduce another layer of complexity in that most of the serious dealers do their own upfit. You can have the greatest equipment in the world but if the upfit is the weak link in the chain, the customer is going to hate it.
Anyways, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! If there is anything we can help with in the future, let us know.
@@qtequipment is it possible to outfit a class 7 chassis to be a combination lube/fuel truck and mechanic truck?
@@GeoffPesos Yes, probably a dozen different ways to do it. We’ve done an 11’ service body with a 36”-ish deck behind the cab that has tanks and reels. We’ve also built lube systems into the back of a 14’ or 19’ body. You dream it, we build it baby. Pictures of past projects are on our Instagram if you want to check out. Best person for you to talk to if you want to explore this would be Jared on our sales team. Just call 330-724-3055. Thanks Joe!
I watched this whole thing to see if they incorporated the A/C compressor to keep the cab cool.
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately the air conditioning option was not available when we shot the video. If we have a future build that includes this option, we will try to get a video. Thanks!
Nice brother 👍... 🇲🇨Support 👍
Thanks!! 👍
Beau Matériel😆😆👍👍
Merci!
Think some rubber around the pull ties may help
Thanks Jon!
I'm curious as to why no one in the service truck building industry has tried a apu for a tractor trailer yet on a service truck ? They are available in many different configurations to provide auxiliary power and also an a/c compressor for integration to the trucks hvac system. Heat comes from the little engine being tied into the trucks cooling system via heater hoses and some even come with reversing valves for a true heat pump setup .
It would not be hard at all to add a small air compressor to run a small impact or other things that need a quick shot of air .
This setup would eliminate guys from having to idle the truck for climate control of the cab .
A little setup like this would probably handle 95% of the average techs power needs while onsite after proper training to work efficiently.
As with any other setup it will not solve everyone's problems , however I believe it would fill a huge gap in the market .
Mitchell. You make great points and thanks for watching. About 10 years ago we installed a few heating / cooling cab units manufactured by Dometic for a customer with EnPaks but haven't done them since. Other than "this is the way its always been done" I I'm not sure why they aren't more popular.
