I really miss the verticality of splatoon 1, there were so many more places to climb and it made gunfights absolutely wild.
I guess it's to balance the game from a competitive aspect. Especially since Splatoon now has a lot of eyes in the competitive scene. Straight and wide stages are more balanced than wide and vertical.
@@Xgil2Play "narrow and wide"
@@Xgil2Play Yet it’s less fun and entertaining.
@@badasstoad9419 the dogfight is what makes this game a great shooting game. Other games have maps with too many turns and long pathways. This is just you in a small box and battling it out. I find it very fun and entertaining.
@@Xgil2Play it's interesting because that kinda sounds like some indoor laser tag or maze map paintball games where everything is claustrophobic and control and knowledge of your territory is important if you don't want to run into too many trigger finger situations, which sounds perfect when you're making a game where you literally mark and create your territory.
“Ah yes, nostalgia”
-me, someone who never played the original splatoon
meeee
i can relate lol
me!! this is why i got splat 3, never got to experience splat 1 and stopped playing for a long time in splat 2 until recently
@@ouuma for me i only experienced splat 1. thinking of buying a switch and getting splatoon 3 tho o.o (edit, i did it )
@@nasu4738 honestly when I got the switch for smash (smash ult direct just came out) I got the switch. First game I bought was Splatoon 2 for the switch and played it for hours. Love the f##k out of the first game. The second game doesn't hit the same but it's still fun (hate the crab ranked mode tho)
I still can’t believe Chara picked Rainmaker camp triggerfish for a match on that Vic stream. A true man of the people
Splatoon 1 has this charm to it that Splatoon 2 doesn’t, it’s not nostalgia, it’s something I can’t explain. Both amazing games, but I really loved Splatoon 1 and it’s craziness, it’s soundtrack, everything. Crazy how I was 13 when I first played, and now I’m 19 lol, time flies.
Nostagia
Its the music style and that new IP smell. Also the gamepad makes the game better than 2.
Same dude
Got the game for my 13th bday and 19 now
Splat 1 defo has its charm but I think its just genuine nostalgia
Games just don't hit the same now compared to when your younger
It's the music for sure
That is the definition of nostalgia buddy
I miss the way this game felt. Playing games now doesn’t give me that feeling anymore.
I've never got to try the first game out sadly. Never had the money, still don't now. It's only barely enough for the second game. I'd definitely love to venture back into the first in the future.
same! back then it was a simple time. This was my first video game I couldn't ever get enough of and just never stopped playing.
It's not because of the game, it's about your perception of the game
What was the way the game made you feel? Anger?
I miss the maps ;-;
Still seeing people play this game gives me great joy. I very rarely come across hackers. There is a 15 hour time gap between Central Time Zone and Tokyo time. The reason I mention this is because I tend to play at night on S1.
Every single youtuber on their way to make a video about how they just played an old game when a new year begins.
and then encounter like a million hackers in the same match
I remember playing splat 1 for the first time , it was amazing
I remember my FIRST ever kill! And it was on... Saltspray Rig lol
I don't remeber the weapon though
The first testfire on Saltspray. Magical.
@@lanimwar my first kill was on moray towers with a roller
One thing I think that allowed me to get s- on splatoon 1 is that the gamepad was huge so it was easier to steady my aim. When I switch to splatoon 2 I disliked the lightness and it made it hard for me a sniper main from splatoon 1
For me, splatoon 2 feels harder to use a variety of weapons, but I got really good with the squiffer.
@@beesquestionmark I just switched to brush and roller and never looked back
@@beesquestionmark it’s because a lot of maps favours shooters/dailies I think
well it might also be that s1 had less input delay, and chargers had faster shot speed in 1, so aiming with them was much easier
OH MY GOD I GET WHY E-LITER IS SO HARD FOR ME IN 2 NOW!
I am currently trying to get back into the game and the single biggest issues that kill my motivation are hackers (you lose the points anyways) and Disconnects (you lose less points but only if half the match isnt over yet
Sadly those happen way too often cause otherwise this game is super fun
(Speaking of ranked of course)
Splatoon has hackers? Since when could you hack Wii U games o_o
My fricken game pad drifts to the right so i always move the the right or cant move left, its so annoying i wish i could fix it, if so i would play splatoon 1 again more
@@VeeTHis I have no idea how hacking works but Splatoon 1 is infamous for its easily hackable gear. Many people would just hack their gear the way they want. Others apply hacks online and there is sadly no way to report them
In the last 2 days Ive met 3 hackers in S+
Two of them spammed every sub possible, every special possible, painted the whole map at once, flew, and killed opponents while theyre in their spawn
The third one simply gave himself more jump hight in Zones on Triggerfish so that they could jump over the gap and on snipe from below
@@xenon6091 Wow, that's really interesting. Idk if hacking in S1 was restricted to Ranked (which I almost never played) or I just never noticed it because afaik I've never encountered any hackers, and I've been playing S1 after S2's release for years since I only just got a Switch a few weeks ago for Christmas.
@@VeeTHis well since Splatoon 2 is out for a while now I think Nintendo simply stopped caring. Right now I encounter one once in a while even in turf war
I can’t believe when splat 1 came out I was 14 and by the time splat 3 comes out I’ll be 21 like what??? It’s been 7 years of Splatoon
I know right? Splatoon 1 came out 4 days after I turned 15, and now, I'll be halfway through college when Splatoon 3 releases. I don't have any sense of time, but that's actually crazy
This is the exact same situation with me. Godspeed.
Dang it seems like a lot of you guys are adults now and just me over here 7 years old when splat 1 releases and 15 when splat 3. Time sure does fly by
Something like the bloodshot eye ink could be a new mode in Splatoon 3, not something that literally makes your eyes pop out, but a mode with very limited visibility, like the salmon run fog. Or it could go further and be a full-blown hazard mode where there's random gimmicks periodically appearing like in Worms Armageddon
I have a love-hate relationship with hackers, there are those classic ones who ink the whole stage with a single burst bomb and end the timer but then there are those ones who force you to squid party in the shooting range
I'm really happy Nintendo has kept the servers up despite splatoon 2 being out for ages and splatoon 3 being in development
Realizing how good is chara with any kind of blaster class from both splat 1&2 is just mind blowing
Splatoon 1 was the best I played it when I was about 8-years old and still gets jump scares the whole time maybe I should play it again :)
I can barely remember splat 1 bc I was around the same age.
@@willc7076 I remember it really clearly but I don’t know how
You were probably more invested in it than I was at the time.
@@willc7076 probably:)
Blasters are pretty good in splat 1.
splatoon 1 is gonna turn 7 this year thats insane.
Chara and Vic playing together is so fun
duuuuuuuude the nostalgia and the broken builds... I miss that so much. Just watching this brought me back to a happier time
You were fighting in a damn fluorescent tube light
1:56 if I had to guess, I imagine they changed the explosion from blasters to be instant in the second game, and that came with an unintended consequence of the hit sound effects playing at the exact same time as well. No idea why they'd make that change (maybe meant to buff the speed of blasters, maybe it had something to do with how blaster indirects used to have variable damage), but I imagine that's how it happened.
hacking to change ink colours: fine, it's an aesthetic change that doesn't affect gameplay
changing ink colours in a way that could give someone a seizure: bad
I have so many good memories of this and the story mode, the kraken special was my favourite so it was sad for me when they removed it
3:33 underrated kill wtf gg
This game is still amazing, it has a diferent feeling with all the broken things and how fast the game is, it will always have its own charm
Reminds me of the time I was against a hacker on Black belly zones, and they were playing a Dynamo but their rolling speed was faster than a brush. I won every round and eventually stopped seeing them, I honestly think I deranked them
The first match is what happens when an inkling eats a glowstick
Aahhh watching this made me feel so nostalgic, those games after school, they were crazyyy, finding people from Minecraft wii u or Miiverse and asking them to play ooo god, the good old Miiverse lot of people in there and many laughs, my favorite weapon was the sniper rifle that had a scope and with a ink curtain, i tried to """""speedru""""" Story mode, pffff took me 2 hours i thought it was good that time but there's people wayy better.
I was around 10/12 and now im 16, i miss those days
I think besides nostalgia there’s an actual difference between Splatoon 1 and 2 and it’s that the art style of the first game seemed cloudier and not as bright as the second game, where everything seems much sleeker and plastic-ish.
Aaaaa holy cow. This is quite the video content. No words, well done, love how u played splatoon 1 with other splatubers i alos watch which makes this even better. Keep it up. Onward throughout 2022!
I prefer splat 1 over 2 a lot, the way the ink looks and mechanics of the game just feel better.
Can't believe a hacker was able to get splattercolor screen into splatoon 1 thats so cool!
I missed Museum D'alfonsino
glad to have it back for Splatoon 3
I have a quick question, but it isn't relevant to the video. I've been only playing turf for a while now, mainly because I'm trying to improve basic skills like my aim and improving with different weapons. My one weakness, and the only thing stopping me from returning to ranked, is that I'm awful with tracking the enemy teams positions. I have a feeling the main issue is that I struggle to focus, but I'm wondering if you have any advice on how to improve general game awareness? If I'm in a 1v1 with another player I'll easily lose track of them, causing them to easily get a pick on me, or I may think a player that has been picked off by my teammate is still alive and paint the ink over because I'm paranoid that they're sharking. I'd really appreciate any advice!
A player known as Wadsm has actually made a video on exactly that, as well as another video that explains methods to get better at the game. They're from a while ago but almost all the info still transfers to today

Luna Blasters back then were CRAZY. O-O
Yeah they literally pissed me off back then.
@@zsideswapper6718 Oh yeah XD
Why do the splat1 stages look so cool? Wish to be added in splat3
dub
you got your wish sort of
Man this game felt really spacious
first clip wouldn't be that bad if the ink wasn't made of 200 gigawatt LEDs
Should you see this comment, I just want to say thanks Chara. Splatoon is quickly becoming one of my most played games (it might actually be my most played now, I haven't checked in a while to see if it's past xenoblade) but I like playing in higher skill brackets and improving, eventually hoping to at some point join the competitive scene in splatoon 3, and the time I feel like I started really improving was when I started watching your channel, so thanks for helping me get more enjoyment out of one of my favorite games of all time
0:14 Splattercolor Screen be like:
Imagine using hacks to blind the opposing team and _still_ *losing*
Been playing splatoon 1 every now and then to get that crazy feel. Loved going apeshit with my splattershot and my burst bomb rush..
I have never played Splat 1 but it seems so fun!
Definitely try it out, if you can!
Shame you need a Wii U for it, it’s really fun
Its really fun man I miss playing the old splatfest and everything 😔
@@oceanblvd420 S1 was equivalent to ADHD meds to me.
@@catsinwonderland7473 Did you play it back then
3:27 the best part was cause of lag it looked like they body blocked me on my end
I miss sp1oon. It feels like there was more verticality, more chaotic and innovative map design that played with the swimming mechanics, and there was less momentum in movement so it felt faster to zip around the map on squid form.
God I miss this game so much it makes me wanna get a Wii-U again...
Edit:
ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION THE SPECIALS!!
for me nothing comes even remotely close to a well-timed kraken squadwipe these days. I miss the old special design, it really made you feel like an unstoppable force or an immovable object. Invincibility, immediate area control, complete lane shutdown, those specials fucking ROCKED in the most punk way possible.
If the glow was tuned down a little, it would be a great Splatfest ink property.
Random fact: Splatoon 1 & 2 “allows” any color ink (as in the engines support it)
Splatoon 3 may allow it too
Splatoon 1 is actually broken, the meta is just the only counter is just playing a more busted weapon
I am glad you guys still enjoy this game after all these years but me personally I couldn't care less about this game anymore and I don't think I'll ever come back to it and if I do it's gonna be for the story mode.
Seeing this game infested with cheaters reminds me of how Team Fortress 2 is right now...
I think a mode where both ink colors are the same would actually be pretty fun. it could be like a cool option in private battles
I love seeing all the top level players in a splat 1 pb
What frustrates me as someone who doesn't have Splatoon 2 because I didn't get a Switch until Splatoon 3 was announced is that I haven't been to enjoy Splatoon for 5 years because either a lobby doesn't fill or it's 7 level 50 S+ people.
I cannot wait for Splatoon 3.
love the vids keep it up!
There were only two hacks I've witnessed. The hack that allowed Inklings to have white ink, and some hack that let there be only be 4 people in one Turf War.
this seems to have so much more replay value than 2 will hve
0:50 I knew the foamstars gameplay reminded me of something
ggs, i was the hacker in the first clip (Minerva)
My retinas are burning
I really should go back to spat 1.
I Really hate how in splatoon 1 if the other team KOs your team you gain nothing in terms of XP which is really annoying when I’m less then level 20.
How laggy can a video game been? Splatoon :yes
Even in its prime. Splatoon 1 always seemed to have more hackers than 2 ever has
i wonder what most people playing splatoon 1 without hacks are even thinking. are they all there because of nostalgia? do they prefer the specials?
i loved that game and it is a shame that the original specials are gone forever. i feel like playing it now.
Good Vibes Gaming said that the “hacker problem” is way too overblown
In the first match your team's ink had a pink glow and the enemy team's ink had a white glow
hey chara, just an idea that I thought could be in splat 3
what if we got emote dance thingys. like we see the inklings and octolings doing dances in one of the trailers and I know it probably isn't going to happen but what if the 2 buttons on either side of the booyah and this way buttons could be dances of our choice. maybe it could be something that we can spend our money on and you can select 2 emotes to use.
3:45 Vic influences the naming of this video
Can they ease return all the good features of Splatoon 1. Like it took nothing away from the game.
Possibly a hot take: I think they should remaster Splatoon 1 for the Switch
Id buy it.
Not a hot take i'd love that. Problem is the superior controller and controls, better gyro and the much lower half the input that Wii U provided that the Switch can't due to physical technical limitations. Splatoon was really designed for the Wii U and it was part of what made it so good. Even still I'd buy it in a heartbeat, Splatoon is one of my favorite games of all time. I'd love to have it on Switch despite owning a Wii U, 2 and soon 3
@@willwunsche6940 They could just redesign the controls for the map to work like with Splatoon 2 and 3
@@DarkestMarlin74 not saying they couldn't they still should I'd love it. Just that the Wii U was part of the fun
Man i remember that one time where the rainmaker glitched into the bridge of Hammerhead and overtime lasted for… 8 minutes since the rainmaker didnt have collision if?
best part is, i started the game up earlier this week again, and half of the names in this video i recognise in my lobbies lmao
I actually just played Splatoon 1 yesterday for the first time. My first experience ever on Urchin Underpass, not counting MarioKart 8 Deluxe, was a hacked match xP
I miss the Kraken special. Whether it's useful or not at high level, I just wish 3 had it. They could make it faster or cover more area etc
Guess what
Can you do a Smurfing Account in Splatoon 1 in 2022
8:03
Professional liar in full force right here.
Splat fest gone wrong 0:30
3:25 get down Mr president
I need saltspray rig back as a level in splat 3 so bad (and blue fin depot).... they were my favorites and I miss them 😭
i had no idea what was going on the entire video, and i love that
I want the giant squid back in splatoon 3
That first game felt like when u turn on discord light mode
My favorite ink color is flashbang purple
That would be a cool sub/special
Something that limits how much a person can see on their screen
Kinda like Mario kart blooper
Splatoon 1 is going to be 7 years old in May. Oh my gosh
One time I had a hacker that changed the colors to be green and red and put everyone in the weapon testing room.
Idk who that other person is in second and third matches, but her voice is _very_ lovely.
Do you use Luna Blaster Neo?
S1 RB looks so fun and then these 180s 😍
3:35 DAAANG, IMAGINE DOING THAT ON GAMEPAD
Ya know- I am actually excited to watch videos of people like “Splatoon 1 is 2023?!?”
And ooo look it’s like 20 days away!
Wait were u playing with vicvillion
Ok, so I just got interested in Splatoon again lately, I've only ever had my laptop when I was younger, how in the hell did I played this on my PC, like I am really confused rn
Bro this is NOSTALGIC
That was beautiful chaos
Ok, hacker with bright lights not very funny, BUT they did have a night time map working with TC, which means Nintendo has no excuse to not put ranked modes in Splatfest.
FWIW: It's still exactly the same as it's always been on WIIU. I play it everyday lately.
god i wish i got the chance to experience splatoon 1!! i always wanted to play but i couldn’t get a Wii U ...
Splatoon 1 in 2022 is broken? Yeah, come back when you get a time machine to go back to when it launched-
The nostalgia is crazy
If I'm being honest, the only thing I really dislike from Splatoon 1 is Luna blaster
Can you still enter in splatfest battles even if they already ending years ago?
Yes, but is in private battles
