One thing to add to you puller kit . Is if now the internal diameter of the pipe on a regular ones . Either get a machine shop to make plug to fit the interior dia with a shoulder to but up against and have the center drill a blind hole so the puller rod will center up on it . But another diy is find a short bolt that thread will fit and center drill it in drill press . And keep a few made up to keep in a bag . Just thought from a machinist now HVAC . I just like to make tools to help people out
You make it look easy. I'm out at my mother-in-law's because the guy she usually has turn her unit on for the year hasn't been oiling the bearings. Now I'm stuck trying to pull them off and they're seized to the shaft. Used the puller after liberally soaking in penetrating oil and the bearings separated from the rest of the rubber set. Now I have to figure out how to pull them off or just cut them off the shaft.
Of course he did, especially since he left out the part of literally removing & reinstalling the pillow block.
@@MR-backup That's what I'm saying
That was a great video Thanks. The wrench in the pulley was a great idea.
Thank you RJ
Great instruction and music!! Much appreciated
That's how real tradesman utilize an adjustable wrench . Ive done the same thing
Thank you, tell that to the heroes lol.
Great video like always I miss doing those shaft and bearing jobs keep them videos coming
Thanks man!
Great Video! Loved the editing. Keep up the great work.
Thank you and I'll try lol
Thanks for the video and pointers man!!! Great work!!!
You're welcome!
I'm sorry you didn't record the removal! That's what I'm trying to find out how to do!
Did you have to prop up the blower shaft?. Lift up to start the bearing?
Lol I usually keep a block of wood. Never thought of using a wrench in there. That’s pretty cool.
Been fighting a bearing on a big ass exhaust fan.
I need to borrow a two jaw puller. I tried a 3 jaw and it is difficult to get it in there nice.
Wow thx for vid great tricks u make me a better tech
Glad to help!
4:00 dumb question, but why would it matter if it comes loose? Wouldn’t it just become a plain bearing at that point? Or would it cause too much play for the application?
I’m using a pillow bearing right now to fix a massive amount of play from my shaft, but my shaft is allowed to have some play so the set screws and extra ball bearings are a bit overkill for me
Hey man, how do you diag a bad bearing? Like what do you look for to know it’s bad or going bad.
Sound is one way, like a grinding sound or up and down or side to side play.
I have a fan shaft going into two bearings / pillow blocks. One of the bearings (closest to the fan) is wobbling inside the pillow block. I have no idea how to adjust things to make this stop. Ideas?
when you remove the existing pillow block does the shaft fall or is it supported enough on the other side?
Yes it will fall
I like the idea of using a Gear puller. Myself I like to get the job done quick and I always cut them off. But if your in a data center I could see pulling them off that way so you Won't set off the fire suppression(Liebert)
Fire suppression was bypassed and I've cut them off in the past with a torch. Looking to get accut tool or angle grinder for these in the future.
@@HVACKnowItAll in use a 4 inch grinder with cut off disks. Nothing special then a chisel at the end.
Nice idea using the 🔧
Nice work brother.
Thanks Melvin!
@@HVACKnowItAll u welcome. U podcast is very good i love it. I learn alot from it.
@@melvinbonilla71 awesome to hear buddy
Can you let the shaft rest on the beam when you remove the bearing without damaging the other bearing on the other side?
Yes, the bearing is an insert that has play to move within the housing!
Great video sir , i like your puller idea 🤭👍
Have you ever found the hub on the shaft where there screws were installed thru the tapped holes instead of the plain holes?
Makes removing the hub a pain!
Haha yah by me lmao
Lol !
How do you align the fan the the wheel shieve
Hvac sixth sense lol...By eye and straight edge.
Do you sometime have to heat the new pillow block before installation ?
No, as long as everything is clean. You're good.
Thanks for the video, it’s great. Question, is the laser level for pulley alignment a good investment ?
I've never personally used one but I can defend see value in them
HVAC Know It All thanks for the reply
A 10 dollar straight edge from Home Depot or a piece of thick long string all you need. You plan on spending 1k on a actual alignment laser tool??
Aaron Arias not I, but if the company is willing to buy it I’m willing to use it as I am using the straight edge technique now. 👍
@@hvacslayer2929 don't get me wrong, I use straight edges as well, but they aren't always ideal. I work with large drives in less than ideal locations. Laser alignment makes life better. Especially when you have an 8ft span. Can't say I'd use string to align a high speed drive system, but if you were comfortable with it, then go for it. In theory if done correctly and I'm sure you're competent enough, it would work in a pinch
What type of the bearing this
It's called a pillow block bearing
Last bearing I changed the housing that holds the bearing popped off the bearing was stuck on the shaft. Was not fun
Sometimes that happens
love this sending a bill before its even done. lol
What kind of puller is that. I'm an apprentice in training and I want to learn easier techniques to removing bearings. I've seen my co workers struggle.
Basically just a gear puller
They got two and three jaw pullers.
They work on bearings. Shivs and pulleys. An excellent tool to have. Trust me. I like jaw pullers myself.
There’s several types of pullers. But jaw style work the best in my experience.
As I learned for years. Just get the puller. It will make your life so much easier.
I’ve done a pull without the right tools and trust me you’ll be there all day. Especially if it’s rusty.
You need what's called step plate adapters Try squeeze lock bearings
Thanks for the video. So that shaft bearing is called a lever bearing? I had a coworker ask me what the name was. I shit I didn't know. Lol
That bearing is called a pillow block
And you're welcome
You took the meat and potatoes of the video away from us. I wanted to see the bearing come off and the new one put on.
The puller was not in thr best shape and it had to be constantly adjusted. Besides that the bearing slide off no problem and the new one slide on no problem. It's all about shaft prep and finding something to plug thd hole on the shaft.
I could never just change one bearing on a blower assembly.
It's common on these Lieberts for the bearing at the motor to become defective. It's never an issue to change that one. Done a bunch like this.
3:20 giant skip of everything that actually happened
grinder lang katapat nyan
This not proper way 👎👎
