Have you seen where people turn the under stair storage areas for cute and cozy little dog rooms? I’m sure Teddy would love it. 😉

Use the closet in the living room for games & hosting storage! We use ours to store extra seating & paper goods because we host a Bible study once a week!
You could also put kitchen appliances in there that you don’t use as often or kitchen backstock stuff
I would live with it for a little while before making big, structural changes. Also the wall upstairs is safer than a railing for any future children.
Keep the room under the stairs, u could use it as a little fun pkayroom for future kids

Plus a place to put the toys that inevitably are in the family living space as they want to be near you.
I love the countertops!!! I think you should turn that door to the closet in the family room into a decorative shelf hidden door. It Could be a fun hideaway future playroom or prayer room like Tori and Chad did 💕🙏
For the under the stairs door, do a sliding/barn door instead. Make it a little reading area or storage for seasonal items
Might as well keep the storage closet door for under the stairs even if it’s basically blocked off
You can always scoot the couch if needed to get in and still use the storage for other stuff. Or for resale purposes I feel like it may be better to keep it

keep the storage under the stairs and use it like an attic! maybe store seasonal decor there where you only have to put the couch out very occasionally!
Change the door under the stairs to a a sliding barn door to store things like suitcases or board games. If it is sliding then it will still be accessible with the couch in front :)

No way, I wouldn’t just wall of that extra storage! Definitely use it for something! Doggie corner, prayer closet, etc! 🤍
Under the stairs you could tear out the wall and put in wall drawers and cabinets for more storage even though you’re not lacking any! But you could store blankets or holiday decor or crafts of some kind you don’t want laying out! Or even board or card games!! You could also make it a dog room for teddy possibly?
I low key miss the custom character of the old house… but I’m excited to see the major updates!

Beautiful new home! Please don't close off the closet in the family room. You can leave it empty, but the more storage the better for possible resale or you may need more storage in the future.
I have a little closet like that too in our house! Either a small prayer room would be cute or storage for some other stuff like decorations
The home looks great! You could keep the downstairs cozy and relaxing with no tv for now. The space upstairs with a big TV. The space by the stairs you could put a big table. The dining nook could be turned into a cozy reading and coffee space. I hope my next home has that much space and a fireplace. I hope you have a great holiday season!
i think you should leave the livingroom storage as it is.... when you have kids you will appreciate having a place to store the high chair, playpen etc
I love this! I think it might be cute to take the door off in the living room and turn that space into a little under the stairs built in reading nook/seat! I've also seen bookshelves built into the stairs which would be cool for book storage, board games, and things like that!

For the closet by the couch I’ve seen people take the door off and put like bottom cabinets and shelving about to make it a cute little shelf/storage space!
I would use the under the stairs cupboard for something that you don't need all the time like Christmas decorations for example. That way you don't have to access it much which means it won't be too inconvenient to only need to move the couch once a year. I know you have lots of storage space, but more is better than less, especially when you have kids :)

Be careful when you do the railings upstairs. You just need to make them close enough together so a kids head cant get stuck in them.
That closet under the stairs would be your safe space in case of tornados!

You could use thst closet in the living room as a cleaning closet and shoe closet. I woukd not get rid of any closet especially when you start yr family❤

How come you didn't have these changes made when the house was being built?
It was a prepackaged home. They didn't have a say in it. They didn't build the house just bought it while it was being built. So they didn't get to change anything. It was being built in what ever way the builders were ordered to build it.

As a British person I find it strange that Americans have a toilet room, in the UK we have the toilet in the bathroom not in a separate room.

So they bought a house that was being built :) so that’s why they couldn’t make any initial changes until it was completed. It sucks but it is a common thing when buying a new build
