Seen lots of people doing this and I truly don't recommend it if your intent is to eat the canned tuna afterwards. Reason being is that most tin cans are not actually metal only as they would rust otherwise, hence the interior of the can has a thin plastic layer inside to protect it from corrosion. Instead what you can do is squeeze out most of that oil from the tuna, eat the tuna, and use the leftover oil as a fuel for the fire.
Mate I understand the concern but as I’ve done this several times I can tell you it’s the same principle as a wick, the oil gets drawn into the paper and thats why it burns, as soon as the burn stops or gets low the oil is usually done burning and the tuna inside the can will only be slightly warm. Unless you take the whole lid off and cover the area there’s no direct problem

I've done that oil in can lamp before. It was taught in a survival/boy scout game in our school. We put cardboard inside to support the wick as its an open empty can unlike in the vid. Then put a wick (cardboard, paper, tissue, you may even cut a piece of your clothing.) Then light it up. Its great for emergency lamp if you have nothing else as a source. Idk why people say its a tiktok/useless skill. Yes the video made unnecessary steps but its a great concept.

It’s not even coffee, but herbs. It’s normal to pack toilet paper on long trips and lots of people carry lighters. If you had plans to light a campfire, but couldn’t find wood, then this would be a possible option. Why do so many here try to play knowledgeable when they can’t even point out actual flaws? People, don't ever do that. As long as those tins are punctured, it's dangerous to use the contents when the tin is heated. Empty the contents from the tin first.
It's only unsafe if you use the whole opening the lid covers... you just don't want the plastic liner melting into your food.. doing what she did is essentially the safest way to do it because it's not necessarily cooking the contents. Just warming them. The fish aren't going to be hot so the contents probably didn't get hot enough inside the can to do any real damage. That and it's a survival tactic. Granted she probably isn't in that sort of situation, but if she were, that would be one of her only few options. But also, as long as that tissue wasn't touching the sides or bottom, i think it's okay because it was heating the oils on the tissue that was constantly seeping into the tissue rather than heating the oil inside the can.

Making a fire takes work and is not always the optimal thing to do. This is what we do to have a quick lunch when out.

People, don't ever do that. As long as those tins are punctured, it's dangerous to use the contents when the tin is heated. Empty the contents from the tin first.
It's only unsafe if you use the whole opening the lid covers... you just don't want the plastic liner melting into your food.. doing what she did is essentially the safest way to do it because it's not necessarily cooking the contents. Just warming them. The fish aren't going to be hot so the contents probably didn't get hot enough inside the can to do any real damage. That and it's a survival tactic. Granted she probably isn't in that sort of situation, but if she were, that would be one of her only few options. But also, as long as that tissue wasn't touching the sides or bottom, i think it's okay because it was heating the oils on the tissue that was constantly seeping into the tissue rather than heating the oil inside the can.
