Your choice to use Sergeant Johnson as your subscribers first introduction to the Halo series is a great choice in my opinion. His backstory touches on multiple areas of the Halo lore, while still remaining a primarily human story. If anything, I think is what makes Johnson so likable and even relatable. Everyone knows that the Master Chief is special and one of a kind super soldier, but Johnson is human. He’s a human and he stays cool under pressure. We get to see his facial expressions, which makes him relate to us even more. By making a video on Johnson, you’ve shown people who are new to the series just how important the human aspect of the series really is. The marines in general are a great factor, but Johnson is their face and I think that makes him such a hero. By being a normal human, that makes him all the more relatable than even the Master Chief.
He would've made a cool main character.
@@lucascoval828 now I want a spin off game
@@lordbred9874 For real, a game about Harvest where we'd get to play as one of the colonists him and Byrne trained would be the shit.
they should of made is story the focus of the new halo show 😑
Hoorah
“This video is great!” “Oh I know what viewers like.”
you should make a villainpedia on the gravemind
Like from Channel = Yes???? 👀
For a brick, he uploaded pretty good.
Oh i know what my viewers like..
Johnson reminds me of my grandpa to be honest. He's old school, loves a smoke, gives suprisingly good advice and laughs in the face of potential death.
I think that's part of why Johnson is one of my favourite characters.
Hell yes man. Hell yes.
Your grandpa is a badass and a legend at that.
Damn man the feels, the memorial scene so iconic
I started playing halo as a really young kid with my dad. I remember being really upset when I saw Johnson die because he reminded me of my father. And of course the ending of Halo 3 made me cry a ton. Man, I forgot how amazing the story in this series is!
if i'm ever in a war with aliens, I'd definitely want Keith David on my side.
But only after Rowdy Roddy Piper shows him the truth
@@sa-amirel-hayeed699 keith David personally saved us from the covenant, the reapers AND the aliens from saints row 4.
@@TheScience69dont forget hell itself
And he's the only US President to ever get shwiffty.
Also has anyone seen RAMIREZ?!!
Excellent.
Sergeant Johnson is the most attractive human I have ever seen.
A beautiful beautiful man
A Marine’s Marine
He knows what the ladies like, it's him Lol
@@theterrariantribe Men send him love letters and women name their toys after him
In Contact Harvest, Johnson wins a tactical sex scene with impecable effeciency.
The Man, the Myth, The Legend
And Gilgamesh wept bitter tears, saying "He who was my companion, through adventure and hardship, is gone forever." RIP Sgt. Avery Johnson
For those unaware: The Halo graphic novel has a bit about exactly how Sgt. Johnson escaped the flood. It's good stuff.
I usually think it’s corny when people say “this channel deserves way more subs” but this channel truly fits the bill. The quality, the amount of content, your unique speaking talent, it’s just crazy that you don’t even have 30k. So many bums are popular on RUclips, it’s a shame
So glad I got recommended this channel. Johnson is my favorite character in the halo series
Johnson never fails to make me laugh. A lot of people love "Oh, I know what the ladies like.", but I think my favorite will always be "You told me there wouldn't be any cameras." "You told ME you were gonna wear something nice!"
Watching this reminded me so much of Colonel Hoffman from Gears of War; definitely very similar, yet distinctly different. If you're a fan of the franchise, I'd be stoked to see a video on my favorite character in that universe. As always, can't wait for the next one regardless!
The song in the intro almost made me cry 1 sec into the vid
I just can tell you the same thing that everyone else is telling you:
Absolutely awesome content and channel!
Johnson is one of the OG brothers in Arms.
My headcanon is that Sgt. Johnson is an immortal born during the stone age. Would explain how, when he started fighting in war, the only tools/ weapons he had were sticks and rocks.
please dont spread misinformation, they didnt have sticks. they only had ONE stick, which his entire mammoth hunting group had to share
@@sadplatinum7552 I thought he said he had two sticks and rock, and that he and his mates had to share the rock.
@@IansMentalOmega This is correct. Back in his day they only had two sticks and a rock, and they had to share the rock!
I dunno what it is with Halo and Sgts, but him and Sgt Forge are like... peak characters
THE MAN! THE MYTH! THE LEGEND! GIVE IT UP FOR Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson!!! One of the greatest video game NPCs ever!
You forgot the most important piece of AJ Johnson Lore:
He knows what the ladies like.
An entry on The Arbiter to go over the covenant story for halo would be awesome.
God I love Johnson and his character in the books too is just as badass
Avery was one of my childhood heroes, especially after reading “Contact Harvest”.
Interestingly enough out of everything I remember about the book I completely blocked out the sex section near the end of the book. Like I absolutely finished the book, but my mind just like completely blocked that portion of the book from my memory, so it was a surprise when I re-read it as a teenager!
What sex section ?
@@Himmington637 it’s at the very end of the book, just looked and it’s in the epilogue starting on page 388
Chills down my spine when you got that first contact cover art up there. Alot of good memories.
Dude you gotta do a Villainpedia on Handsome Jack, hands down one of the best villains of all time
Absolutely.
All I needed was the music in the beginning. Also, your "The Master" video was awesome, btw. I wish we got an enemy like them again. Especially with the writing.
Small thing, but johnson *can* be heard in reach over the comms. Specifically right after jorge throws you off the corvette, when the camera cuts to the full fleet arriving at reach
Absolutely insane to me that this only has 35k views. I've been binging these vids for days now. So so so good
now I hear 343 saying "unacceptable unacceptable" all I can think is replacing that floating laser cannon with a lemon
Sgt johnson is a real hero. It is a crying shame that the halo show didn't put him in. When companies are so focused on Wokeness they would rather raceswap or make new POC characters instead of adapting this based chad.
That mustache is a greater military weapon than the Spartan power armor.
You should do a heropedia on that one Marine that almost made it through the Library in Combat Evolved
As a Halo fan since day 1, your videos are really captivating, a different approach, on a content I already know by heart as it is my favorite fiction. Big props to you king
Great video dude!
Always mirin your scripting and commentary skills!
Keep on keeping on.
As per usual your careful balance of vocals and music make for a great video. (And as always thank you for another great video Corporal)
Thanks my friend ❤️
Sgt.Johnson: * is trying to sacrifice himself for the good of humanity, other alien races, and justice *
The flood cells and Mk1 spartan augments and cells in his body: "LEFT LEFT LEFT RIGHT LEFT"
Man like 5 seconds in, and that music got me ready to feel some stuff I normally repress like a healthy human.
I've just found this channel and goddamn I am impressed. Keep up the great work man!
9:25 I used to be more of a batman fan...then it processed for me that he's a billionaire who instead of going to therapy spends his evenings working off his childhood trauma by beating the crap of people poor people and people in need of mental health services, when if he actually cared about justice he'd put his considerable wealth and political clout toward the kinds of programs and projects that would actually address the root causes of crime, or turned his considerable mind and investigative abilities formally to the service of the DA's office; his father was a surgeon while running Wayne corp, he could easily have been a PI.
You seem confused. Criminals can't just be equated to poor and crazy people. This is a very weak mindset and very dangerous.
The vast majority of people who commit crime simply do it because they want to. Most poor people are not criminals.
There are already numerous philanthropists who fund these "programs". They achieve nothing. The only language criminals understand is violence.
My brother in Christ Batman does literally everything you said he doesn’t.
Love the channel man. This is my third and all the videos are really well made and paced. Thanks for the entertainment!
MY BOY!!! BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH ANOTHER WELL-THOUGHT, PASSIONATE DESCRIPTION OF ONE OF THE BEST CHARACTERS IN GAMEING!!!!! 10/10 👍👍
You’re videos are so underrated, great work man.
Man this video was sweet. Halo videos always remind me that Halo is one of the best games ever made.
these 3 single violine notes in the berginning of the video....
good old memories
Your channel is awesome; keep it up!
I played on the original xbox to the 360 straight cried when johnsen died he really was a great dude
Absolutely hyped to see you cover more Halo sometime, it has been my favorite series for as long as I can remember and I will gladly be here for more Halo and whatever else. Stellar shit dude
I almost teared up. Almost.
it's an honor, sir
Your content is incredible and I would be surprised if you don't have a million subscribers within a couple of years. Absolutely awesome work!
My brother is in the US Marines and after seeing this video of Avery Johnson’s story in halo, I’m pretty sure that my brother would fight alongside with him in any war at this point.
"The training was based" Hell yeah m'dude
I love the retrospectives I've listened to so far and Johnson is an excellent character for them. My only major gripe with this one is how well I know the plot and lore of these games. The largest inaccuracy in this is the way the rings work. They are weapons of mass destruction built to wipe out all sentient life in the galaxy in an effort to stop the flood. Mankind inherited the ability to use them as well as all forerunner tech from the now dead forerunner. In halo 3 lighting the ring in the arks central forges (a whole other can of worms) was only to stop the flood. The array of halos was shut down by the chief pressing the same button Johnson was forced to press in the cutscene where the prophet of truth is killed. Ok my halo lore knowledge has been sated and all in all an excellent look at Sgt. Johnsons life as a whole. Great vid!
great vid, love Sgt Johnson.
Damn someone already made that joke. Well, keep up the great work man.
Absolute favourite channel atm
I played halo 3 as soon as it came out. I was never more excited for a video game. I got the special aluminum Mountain Dew bottles and everything. To this day, “Send me out with a bang” still chokes me up.
Man, this channel is so dope.
This channel needs more love
I think a Heropedia for Private Jenkins would be cool to see. I think it would even overlap with this video with Johnson and how Jenkins was a key person during the Event of Halo: Combat Evolved.
Also one on Chipps Dubbo would be fun because of his impact on the community
love the content on this channel, if you do make more hero/villanpedia entries for the halo games id love to see Noble team, and their story prior to Halo Reach. or Alpha nine from ODST, and some of their story as they have quite a bit of story that takes place before and after the events of ODST
I love your videos man. You need way more subscribers
I love how cotana answers for Cheif "we are fine" 😂😩
i remember being a very young kid (like single digits age) when i first saw Sgt. Johnson die in halo 3. was my very first experience with "loss", even if it wasn't real. halo, and especially Sgt Johnson will always remain in a very special place in my heart
Sgt Johnson is the ultrachad amidst the gigachads of spartans plus he reminds me of a good friend who's a vet wouldn't fuck with him
Seargent Johnson is a Scholar
All these years and seeing Johnson die again I’m tearing up just like I did as a kid.
What’s also pretty cool about first strike is that Chief lost his shields for a while. So he had to go back to fighting as if he was wearing a Mk IV suit
It feels so weird when you hear your name when someone describing a person that’s not you.
Bro, you made one on him?! Awesome!
I always saw that Chief view Johnson as a sort of Father Figure really.
6:30 1stSgt Johnson is a Marine! he's not in the Army lol. Also at 6:47 you can see his rank is First Sergeant, although i think he was a Staff Sergeant in the first Halo game. I can't remember if the characters refer to him as just "sergeant," but any marines i know would get very butthurt if you don't specify what type of sergeant they are.
Rah?
johhny. what a man
19:05 Well it was that the chief found flood cells inside him, but the syndrome made it so that the cells couldn't infect him
I feel like a Guilty Spark vid would be damn near 2 hours long. His backstory is probably the most complex in a lot of sci-fi, definitely the most complex in Halo.
Please PLEASE do a villianpedia on Grigori from Dragon's Dogma
I think the Seneschal would probably be a better pick but maybe he could roll both characters into one video seeing as how they are pretty closely related.
When i first played Halo for the very first time, and Johnson first showed up, I couldn’t help seeing similarities with Sargent Apone from the movie ‘Aliens’.
You should do Chipps Dubbo.
Now THAT dude has a seriously wild career record.
I really love that all this time later, in universe of Halo, the academy used to train the current generation of spartans is named after SGT. Johnson. (and as an added bonus, the logo is of noble six)
Oh man. Johnson was amazing. Totally forgot about Keyes dying before Johnson. I remember being distraught knowing he died. Such a great character
23:05 this is my favorite thing Johnson does.
"Greater Chicago Industrial Area" Ok, so Gary IN
oooo this gon' be a good one
Idk how I've watched so many of your videos without knowing your name or being subbed.. today this changes
welcome at last my friend
@@Ghostcharm pog content my guy, have a wonderful day
I was in 5th grade when Johnson died, that shit hit hard as a kid
Would love to see an Arbiter video
I definitely see this channel blowing up a bit more here soon.
Damn bro. I'll start by saying I'm a huge fan of video essays. Ive watched more video essays on RUclips in the past two years than your average person watches Netflix in 4. This is my 5th or so video of yours I've seen. I gotta say, you are doing something special here my friend, and I love your bro lingo! Ha.
You'll be huge if you keep up the pace. 👑
The ORION program was essentially the Spartan 1 program that lost funding before they could be given early versions of the Mjollnir armor. Spartan 2 program was the Spartan 1 program from scratch where the 3 program was like 2 but was rushed and faulty. Fun fact some may not realize about Halo Reach is that Spartan Jorge isnt a Spartan 3 like the rest of Noble hes a Spartan 2 like John-117 basically there as a supervisor and guide. Its why Halsey seems to like Jorge where she clearly doesnt like the others because theyre essentially false copies of her children
Can we all just take a moment and appreciate the fact that Johnson stood toe-to-toe with an Elite and actually landed an offensive blow?! Think about that for a second. He's engaged by an opponent who has a MAJOR physical advantage, yet he's composed and focused enough to adequately react. Granted, he's a step or five above your average Marine, but for any non Spartan to be able to handle it like that speaks VOLUMES about how badass he actually is.
Also, great video and +1 sub from me👍
This was wonderful
literally cried
2:04-2:15
I didn't know Sgt. Johnson was from Chicago-area! Lolll Thats great it all makes so much more sense now. I'm born n raised Chicago!!! Wooo!!!!!
Beefing with The Flood they accidently created by improsining an eldritch being!
OOO I BE GETTIN CHILLS
Good video. You said baby a lot.
what you mean baby?
Ah, the 'That Metroid game' - syndrome.
Thebabythebabythebabythebaby....
Anyone notice when truth activates the thing and all the ring lights representing the halos light up, the 4th one representing installation 04 doesn't light 'cause chief destroyed it :O
Imagine if we got something like this instead of Master Cheeks the covenant cheek clapper
