I owned a 1978 Trans Am paid $5000 for it in 1980 from a guy who lived in Woodland Hills, CA and the car looked like new it was black also I loved that car wish I never sold it but I did two years later also owned a 1976 Trans Am. I worked for GM for many years as a master technician so I was always driving cars like this and way more fun than the cars today. I started driving Corvettes later on and owned C4, C5, & C6 models. The years go by fast hope they do a good job fixing this Trans Am. Thanks for the Video, Mike
Cool firebird. When I was a kid in the 90’s one of our neighbors’ teenage sons had one of these in ok survivor condition. It’s weird to think that it would have been less than 20 years old at the time and yet it was considered an “old car” even then. Dig the Tapatio shirt. We can’t live without it in my household, just restocked last night. While on the topic of hot sauce... I’ve found that the plastic bottles that Sriracha (rooster sauce) comes in make a perfect gas squirt bottle for filling carb bowls when starting old engines.
It is absolutely amazing what people have stashed in their sheds The trans am needs some work but glad to see it is out and sold so hopefully that person actually Builds it up like new again and gets to drive it once again Great video Matt 😍😍👍👍
I have wanted one of these ever since I was a kid. Im 43 now and still don't have one yet. Great to see the younger generation is still into classic cars and trucks. Great video
Hey Matt another great video surprise to see the Trams Am but saving old car is always great. But for me today is always hard. We lost 343 fireman today trying to save lives in the World Trade Center. We must never forget. God Bless those who lost there lives today. Retire Philly Fireman.
Matt & Co. It's really good of you & your crew helping out Carl with clearing out a few of his cars, better yet, it's really great to see a young, up & coming car guy, I'm sure the 48 Ford Coupe won't be for sale long due to your following...best of luck to you & your crew!! Build on Dudes!!
That there is a Smokey and the Bandit Firebird! Lol. If it's factory Black and factory trim optioned by code, then it has a unique group of collectors that look for these, particularly movie fan buffs. 77 and 78.
@@chaosdemonwolf1 Weren't most of the car that became cultural icons from movies over rated? Before the opening scene on Maxwell Smart, they used a Karman Ghia, before changing it to an Alpha Romeo. Matt, I’m glad I’m not the only one with a black TransAm and a 47 Ford coupe in the garage....hahaha I’m looking forward to seeing that coupe get uncovered!
Having grown up around my mothers 1978 Firebird that was roached, recked and rusted into the ground by 1983... When the time @7:54 rolled around I paused and said a prayer for the new owner. "Dear Lord, Please let it not have "hurst hatches"."

Eli, I thought Matt yelled "Sock Cucker" when the Trans Am slipped off the dolly. Maybe everyone didn't know that a sock Cucker is the person who "cuckers" in the toe of a sock in the factory that makes socks. Don't fret Matt, that's the same 2 words I use when I scrape my shins as well.🙉🙈😰😨😂 Great to see a father-son team going to fix up the Transie.👍
Always a great day pulling out a barn find my wife found a 72 Skylark convertible on craigs list . We used a U Haul trailer no winch. Lots of fun she drives it a couple of days a month. Happy Wife Happy life.🙂
i'm sorry to hear that Carl doesn't have the energy to finish building the Mustang, but it's great that you are helping him sort out selling the car and that it's going to a good home.
Much respect in the professional process you all took on loading and unloading that bird. I appreciate how careful you were, (even though it was rough) you took extra care with it. Also, seeing that Monte Carlo made my leg and side hurt (I was involved in a hit and run in a maroon 97). I'm not a Monte fan, just ended up with it. I was lucky to live..... 4 broke ribs, fractured right socket, intestine and colon ruptured, and a reconstruction of my left ankle 09/04/2020 is when it happened and happened to be my 10th anniversary with my wife). Much respect
For all you kids out there, Matt yelled “Cork Sucker” when the mustang fell off the dolly. Carl was an avid wine enthusiast and has several “cork suckers” laying around the shop.
Nice barn find! I own 3 Trans Am`s. A 1978 bandit edition with T -tops & a 7.5 liter with 550hp. engine as seen in Smokey and the bandit. A 1979 Hardtop T/A with a 403 olds.engine. Also a 1981 Turbo T/A with T- Tops that have the changing lights for gears on the hood. She was always in a garage and has only 17.000 miles on her.To this day she is still waiting to go out for a run with me. I picked her up for 2 grand with an extra 6.6 engine block to boot. A few other toys I found lately are a 1968 Chevy Malibu & a 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner & a 1997 Corvette. I love American Muscle Cars!!!
The unfinished red third gen and many many lawnmowers don't give off a whole lot of confidence that this car will ever be restored. Cool yard ornament though. I had a 1977 in 1993 and much like any kid of around 21 years I had lots of plans for it as well.
My daughter loved your hot sauce t-shirt, she puts that sh*t on everything! Myself, I'm a big TA fan. I have a bunch of parts for that baby. Enjoy the videos!
My worst fear is wake up on day too old to wrench with cars that don’t run and a building full of crap. I hope I can have all my junk on the road before then. But if I don’t I’ll sell it all in a heartbeat. I hope the old T/A sees the road again. And I wish the fellow you’re helping a return to good health.
had a couple of silver anniversary models and figured our after the fact the automatic that year had the Olds motors and the Pontiac motor was in the 4 speed ones. one of them was silver very rare with special interior and the other was blue I didn't think the motors look right when i bought them so I sold to a man who bought both of them from me keep it up and your going to start liking those old Indians.ha! ha!
From what I've seen in the video that appears to be a 78 Black and Gold Special Edition. The gold painted grills and the gold pontiac emblem on the nose piece would be consisted with that. Those appear to be Hurst ttops. To be sure you could look for a double H logo in the corner of the ttop glass. If it says American than it's an aftermarket ttop. Like somone else said Hurst tops were early in the 78 production year because most 78s have the Fisher tops. I'd highly recommend ordering the PHS (pontiac historical services) report. That could very well be one of the most desirable Bandit cars. And yes even though Smoky and the Bandit was a 77, that's still referred to as a Bandit car if it's a black and gold SE. Nice find. Easily a $75k car properly restored.
Smokey and the bandit was a 77?? All SE's are called Smokey and the Bandit nowadays, even any black T/A, but NONE really are from the Factory as Called.
Thank you for the adventure and seeing some amazing cars ! Take care , stay safe and healthy wherever your next adventure or project takes you ! Doing well here in Kansas .
For my use I could close my eyes and walk away from the firebird and never look back but the coupe Ford is a different story. Keep digging boys ! Freddie out !
I owned and drove a 1976 Trans Am in the very early 90's tht was factory Yellow and Black interior and had all the goodie with shaker and all the bird you could look at .. really miss the car .
Would have given me great joy to see you & Mike .. taking advantage of this Covid haircut pause .. in order to grow out mullets, to fly in the wind of Trans Am T-top openings. That '41 looks sweet as hell, too !! Convertible, me thinks ??
Thats a good find 77 to 78 is the most popular years, I have an original 1975 455 4 speed car, navy blue with white interior........never ever own a car with a white interior unless you like stress and giving your passengers a preflight check list of where not to put their feet, no eating, no touching, no fun, just sit there and dont touch anything! LOL.....junk gets super dirty just looking at it.
Nice. I just picked up a 2nd gen trans am myself, I'm into fat fender Fords but I have to say, towing the trans am back home was a hour ride and it turned more heads the my 40 ford, and race car, which made me a little nervous about the older cars and trucks

Matt do you lift weights? The way you pull the car without help lol. You are awesome to be helping those who can't help themselves. Keep it up my friend.
From the look of that yard with the lawnmower & mattress laying there and that red one sitting there That car will never be finished!! They're in way over their head I thought it was in better condition with the Hurst tops and rusted quarters how much water got in there?? Curious I've found many of these over the years with people in over their heads ,If it's a SE car I would trade him a 2017 Honda civic Type R for it 32,000 miles bought it for my daughter she graduated college now she don't want it even trade

Nice recovery. Your friend needs a dumpster for a lot of that crap. Get the junk out of the way and the car moving would be a lot easier.

Wish I would of been able to find out about this i would of surely bought it, I got a 79 I'm just about finished with.
I'd love to have that Mach 1 Mustang.
I'll second that; I'm in line if the family ever changes their minds.
How can they let the garage get so full of crap. Time for a major clean out
This is definitely one of my dream cars
hahahahaha, LOVE that old Tapatio shirt !
My new fav shirt!
Its worth the effort
I have a 1975 Ford Thunderbird I needed fixed. Montgomery,MN.

THE BURT REYNOLDS CAR !!!!

Man, Carl has a lot of stuff!
TwinStick Garage is putting together the Snow Man 73' Kenworth
I'd love to have gotten that car. Been wanting a 77-78 t-top car with a solid shell.
@gordon mathew better than what I see around here
Mark Bauman interestingly, we ordered a **77 Hurst Hatch Special ED IN, OCT 76, and got in March 77::: Hurst hatches leak, and seep continues, I had one stolen( fight to get Hurst Proper Replacements), even with Ziebart and care , Warsaw ind salt rusted out most of car by 10-12 years hard use.......
Have a 77 TA may sale it for right price,, bought it off showroom floor ,been parked in my garage four about 8 years have not started it in about 4 years
The right price is probably more than I could come up with anytime soon
My DelCo sense of humor says "the mask thing is funny" great ending Matt.
Man, I wish I had seen that car, I’m always looking for them, I have two
Matt I smell some good stuff in your near future!!!cool garage to bad it’s so packed out or good cause of the treasures you are going to find!!!
We need part 2 please
Mat looking for a 30 31 coupe body no fenders or boards good price keep up the good work
I have a 1978 getting a running moter for it then driving it like it is ,not a bad find mines white it's hole
Matt refers to a late 70’s car a modern car!! With there sway bars!!! LoL!!
Haha new fangled technology!
Matt where is the best as in cheapest place to get flat top spring perch bolts ???
If my Pontiac knowledge serves me, that is a Y 82, but NOT an S/E, which means it is not a Smokey and the Bandit car. It is a Pontiac 400 powered T/A, it says ta6.6 on the shaker. A 403 car would say 6.6 litre.
The beauty she once was.
He definitely has some very desirable cars
A fire chicken Mat? What's next a K- car? Just kidding you're a good guy helping out. I remember these from high school. Rich kids and wannabes had these cars.
Gotta dig this stuff out to get to the “good stuff”
I would have brought some aired up tires and bolted them on to the Trans Am make things a lot easier.
Good God. Just the effort it took to get it out of there should have covered the price of the car.
Too bad the front end is mangled.. luckily parts are easy to find. Yearone FTW
That tapatío shirt though ✊🏽💯
its you know only slightly burried, its only just at the back i'm sure it'll be easy to move just you know clear the stuff in the front and it'll be okay
Dang wish I knew it was for sale
he looks like the old chelsea manager andre villas-boas
Hurst top car from what I can tell, those are actually pretty rare
Why did you turn it around in the garage? Why not just move it over and push it straight out?
Where are you guys from in Pa? I’m pretty interested in the 90s z34.
Well let’s here the great price!
$500.
Btw finding a fender for that will be almost impossible . I tried many years ago and no dice.
Your shin got hit and mine is killing me!!reminds me of walking into alignment machine shin height ggrrrrrr!!!
Check the panel in the back of the glovebox....gently pull, if it's real, will have a fake mustace and a Burt Reynolds card attached
How long did all that junk accumulate, can't under stand the logic, just burying the cars and let the crap overwhelm the building. just my 2cts.
Yeah that's kind of wacked.I only have 2 project cars and half a basement full of parts. The stuff can accumulate quickly if you let it.
