I would say they are a cross between Band-Maid (mainly early to mid) and a poppy rock band (eg. Scandal), but I do recognize some newer Band-Maid in this track in particular and I certainly can see the comparisson to (especially early) Trident as well. One of the reasons people compare them to Band-Maid as well is because they started out doing Band-Maid covers and they have performed multiple times in Shibuya Eggman, which is where Band-Maid played a lot in their early days. Also, they have a great bassist like so many Japanese bands including Band-Maid. My least favourite part of them is without question the vocals (both production and the vocalist), but they certainly aren't bad, it's more a taste thing. I can see them grow pretty quickly if they can stay together, although I said the same about PaleNeØ and they seem to have slowed down a little.
now this i like a lot it got me right away with the bass ! Koga and Misa must have smiled when they heard this (first song) the second one was good too but that first one i like better
The slap bass intro reminds me very much of Koga's intros in some Gacharic Spin songs. Great EP overall. I never get tired of song based on a pulsating slap bass rhythm. BTW, a great new song by metal idol group MAZE (how fitting for this video) has been released, called I Miss in My Life feat. Pablo.
I think a lot of the band maid comparison seems to come from their having done covers, though maybe I don’t know enough band maid to make that statement. The initial bass riff is very reminiscent of Ambivalent by Trident, and the overall bouncy style of bass/drums sound is much more GS to me or other Japanese Rock bands than Band Maid. The bassist has done a cover of GS, and the drummer has had some support from Yuri. The guitar solo also sounds much more Tomo-zo than Kanami to me, but then I also have my bias! The overall sound is not really that GS but I like it. Maze is easily my favourite of the 3 I’ve heard - I’ll be interested to hear the rest.
My favorite tracks are the last and the second. The bass parts really remind me of Koga. F Chopper Kanade 🎸🔥 When are you planning to record ZUTOMAYO reaction? I just wanted to tell you that the first and third song have live version on their official RUclips channel. You have to search a little bit for the first one because it’s on a video called “1 Hour Live Performance” (ZUTOMAYO FACTORY). The song starts at 25:34. The third song is easier to find. Songs 2,3,4 and 6 have MV. Thank you 🙏🏻
