Actually that is wrong. Our Forefathers didn't want representation in the British Parliament at all. If they got it , they would be taxed a lot worse since they wouldn't have many Electors to sway the vote . The Intolerable Acts were actually the main reason. Once a "myth" becomes legend print the legend. Thus the Legend of "Taxation without Representation".

To call Social Security, Medicare, etc "entitlements" is misleading - they are NOT entitlements! An entitlement is something owed or given to you without you having done anything to earn it. These programs are CONTRACTS - not entitlements. We native-born and legal immigrants have been sending good money throughout our whole working lives, without any choice on our part, to the govt in return for FUTURE aid from the govt paid in devalued dollars. It is not wrong or greedy or whatever for us to expect that, having done our part of the contract, that they should KEEP THEIR PART!

The whole $35+ trillion debt thing.
So yeah, if you were looking to get AIDS in the future, ... the federal government won't let you down.
Just Curious , were these future Aids "contracts" , was that something you got from Al Gore / W Bush ? Elsewhere? or just sorta "how things oughta be" ?
Can't say I've heard "contracts" used in reference to the entitlement programs.

While I agree with you the thing is that things like Social Security are destined to fail because they require an ever expanding population to cover the bill for the previous populations benefits. SS worked great during the baby boom for one because people didnt live as long which meant very few would draw on it into their 80s and 90s but now that people are living longer and the population has stalled because people are having less children its not going to be able to continue in the form it is now. Its simple math unfortunately.

The bigger part of the credit card issue is the credit bureaus now actually lowering peoples credit ratings who do not use revolving credit, I have not had a credit card in over a decade and I paid my truck off several years ago, all I have had for years was my mortgage and the credit bureaus have kept my rating below what it should be due to "lack of credit history", this should be illegal. As for the 10% limit, maybe it could be a bit higher limit but the fact is we have had laws against loan shark level interest rates for decades, you have to set limits somewhere. The Wall Street bankers want everyone deeply in debt and they punish you if your not through credit ratings erc.

Putting a cap on credit card interest rates is not price controls, imo - it's not directly related to the main living expenses: groceries, fuel, mortgages or rent. It's a temp cap on a bank fee that would affect a small segment of the population who might need a reprieve and a bit of time for their income to increase once the Trump economy takes effect. With Trump in power, most people's income will increase while their expenses decrease, so hopefully they will pay their credit card bills on time and in full averting interest on credit card balances. 19.5% (or more) interest on credit card balances is the closest thing to gouging.

Larry is correct about entitlements but if a candidate even whispers reducing Social Security benefits he is out of the race. Saying that we might mention that the average American is at some fault, “I want more money from the government “ attitude or you don’t get my vote!

    • @UN33kWabb1T

Social Security is not an entitlement program. As an American Citizen I must work a minimum of 40 years with the government taking money out of each check to pay for my SS after I reach retirement age. Most Americans probably don't even live 20 years after they retire. The amount you qualify when you retire is based on the number of years you worked and the amount of money you made and paid into the program. If our government had not mishandled the money, they took from our income SS would not be an issue.

All that i want from our so-called "Government" is to shut up, get the Hell out of the way, and give me back MY MONEY which YOU TOOK FROM ME, and squandered on whatever might bring you more Power at MY expense. The Government HAS NO MONEY. Every penny that it spends comes from WE THE PEOPLE, so the Government CANNOT "give" you ANYTHING which it didn't already take from you!

@@UN33kWabb1T I think SS is an issue no matter what our government did with the money. When SS came into being, you had to be 65 to receive benefit payments, that was older than the average life expectancy at the time.. In 1956, the age to receive the benefit was reduced to 56 for women, in 1961 this same benefit was extended to men. Life expectancy now in the US is 79, yet we can start receiving SS payments at the same age of 62.
That all being said, Trump has committed to maintaining SS benefits and eliminating taxes on them.

Capping interest rates on credit cards is kind of interesting for only one reason. What it's basically preventing is any credit card company profiting excessively off of anybody else's debt. I do not agree with price controls of any kind, but interest isn't really a price, it's an additional charge tacked on to the actual credit being given. In other words it has nothing to do with the principle that still has to be paid. It is sometimes the unfavorable opportunism that some credit card companies will use in order to fully maximize their own profit potential. So I guess I would call this going into the gray area but there could be more to this that should be explored.

The "Credit-Card" Cap is only Temporary. It's designed to help people "Catch-up" on their Balances. You have to buy a little time for the Economy to turn around and for other prices to drop. If you're still trying to keep up with a 25% interest Credit-Card payment, you're STILL not going to be able to afford FOOD. If you don't find an affordable "Middle-Ground", those Credit cards will NEVER get paid off. A temporary cap on interest at-least means that Everyone will START Recovering.

10% cap on credit card interest is a very good idea. People living comfortably don't pay any interest; they just pay it off every month. But it's poor folks who can't pay it off every month who get sucked into never-ending interest payments of 25+ percent. True, it's their own fault. But some people are just not good with finances - e.g. everyone in congress.
