Today I'm sharing how I turned my generic apartment kitchen into the retro wonderland I always dreamed of. We "replaced" the counters by covering them with contact paper, changed the flooring using peel & stick tile, and covered the refrigerator and appliances with contact paper for a more vintage feel. It completely changed the look of the room, for under $200! I think these ideas could work really well for any style or decorating tastes (I know not everyone wants to live in a '50s diner like I do) ;)
I honestly wish I made these changes the day we moved in! But it's never "too late" to make changes to your space so that it's more inspiring and brings you more joy.

I just discoverd your channel. I am older than you are but I absolutely love your positivity and the fun way you interact with your viewers. I also love your relationship with Nate. You remind me a lot of my husband and me. We also love Disney and I think I miss it more than anything else we lost during Covid. We live in Denver so we didn't go all the time, but we did go several times a year. Just the two of us for a getaway. I love how it is so relaxing. You're kitchen turned out beautifully! These are such great ideas. Even though I own my own home and don't have to worry about renting, a complete perminent remodel is so expensive and these are great ways to change up a kitchen on a tighter budget. I love it!

If the corners bother you too much you maybe could put those bumper protector things on them that people put on coffee table corners and stuff when they have little kids so they dont bump their heads on any corners. They just slip over the surface and they're shaped for corners. Usually a grey or white color but you could probably jazz them up with all your creativity! I love what you did!!!!!!

Great job. Looks really great. Another u tuber that I watch has a video on doing changes in a rental and she takes the knobs off the cabinets and puts the old ones in a box and replaces them when they move out. They also replaced the lighting fixtures and saved the old ones in storage. If I can find her link I will put in your link, I think you will really enjoy watching what she did. She also went over her countertop with contact paper.

You could paint the backslash area the blue you like or the pink, because that is easy to paint back when you move and could have a big impact. Same with the above strip, where your copper and cookie jars go. Just an idea. Love the fridge blue, great result! And the floor and countertop, what a difference, not just brown on brown lol

Beautiful makeover. The space is much more welcoming, inviting and cozy. The layout and color scheme is very cohesive and a total home run if you ask me 👍🏼👍🏼🤗
I would have chosen the exact same! It's so much fresher and fun'er and brighter. Warm, dull colors have no place in my life in 2020. I'm a pink flamingo dishcloth fan.

Looking forward to your updates and recommendations on cleaning and maintaining these changes in your kitchen. I saw a woman named Adaline who covered her rental kitchen floor with contact paper on her channel! Has your floor been damaged/scratched by heels? This happened on a small bathroom floor we changed. It looked like small circle indentations everywhere. Not a good moment to look down and see that! Enjoy the new look and rewards of all your hard work.

to help the corners heat the contact paper and then smooth out, preferably with a heat gun and your spatula tool. Another thing that you could do is trade out the hardware on your cabinets. Good work, you have really made it your own!

Sorry but the flooring is not a simple renter friendly idea. The owners will have a big ole mess after you move out, if they decide to remove the tiles you put down. And the contact paper on stainless steel, will ruin the finish. 🤦.
whoa. look at this! I think you should invest in a company that makes a lot of contact paper lol. Did you get paint from the rental company? I have some spots that I would love to touch up in my own place with the "renter beige" walls

Try using a blow dryer or a heating gun for the corners. It will give a smoother finish. Good job.
