As an old SAAB now VAG owner it was interesting to hear your S3 ownership experience over the past 12 month perior. The DSG gearbox (AKA the S-Tronic in AUDI language) require a service every 38K miles. It's essential this is done on time but no harm to get it done early.

He said the DSG was serviced at the 40k service (the service he did after he bought it)

10K mile oil changes are the norm across the industry. Modern synthetics have gotten so good that shorter OCIs are really not necessary, & I say this as someone in the fuel/petroleum QA business. My MK7 GTI gave me years & 100K miles of trouble-free service by sticking to them, but I understand if you like the extra peace of mind of shorter intervals. Congrats on 1 year!

FYI, my son purchased a 2015 Audi Q7 TDI w/ 80K miles for $25K. Audi gave him a bumper to bumper extended warranty up to 100K miles. Early on a problem with the fuel system arose that would require (according to Audi) replacement of every part of the fuel delivery system from the fuel pump to the fuel injectors. Total cost was $6,900 and Audi covered ALL of it. It took 3-4 weeks for repairs mainly because of parts availability/shipping from Germany. Since then the car has been a gem now at 110K miles and it gets 30 mpg highway. To each his own but you may want to think about that extended warranty purchase.

Thank you for putting together this video! We are thinking of buying an Audi so it was good to understand your perspective as an owner.

If there were no Saabs worth owning, or I had a budget for a fairly new car, an S3 would be in my driveway. Sharp and fast, the closest I could get to owning an Aero Saab and be happy. You got a good deal, even with the mixed in bits of heartache along the way.

"Hey, Jacob, we're calling to speak to you about your car's extended warranty... " jk! Saaber here... but I haven't had a chance to watch in awhile and actually wondered lately how you've been liking the Audi, so there you have it.

You say the 2-litre VAG engines are reliable but is this taking into account timing chain/tensioner failures? Is that still a problem on 2017+ models? I had an audi with a chain failure at 160k km (100k mi) which grenaded the engine. Have a tdi now with a timing belt, but that timing chain really put me off vag tsi engines

Most VAG cars in Europe have 30.000 km oil change intervals.

I'm surprised he mentioned that as well, even the GM SAABs have it down in the manual at 2 Years or 20000km intervals.
Coming from an older car, that seemed insane to me, so I ended up doing them at 1 Year / 10000km intervals. The only annoying part about it is that the ECU measures oil quality based on duration, so once every couple of years it decides to let you know an oil change is due, when the oil's actually fine :P

It’s good you can still see the oil in there. Most German cars you can’t see shitt!! No dipsticks for any fuilds to see! I had a 2020 Supra GR and there’s no oil to see. Lol.

Buy only a bmw with an engine from 2.2 and above. Buy only an audi with engine 2.8 and above. Never forget this rule.
