I want to let you know there is light at the end of the tunnel!! I suffered from dpdr from january to may. It was the worst time in my life. Nothing felt real and it was 24/7. I had panick attacks all the time i couldnt eat or go outside. I lost hope and most of the nights were so dark and i felt lonely. I couldnt take it i tried everything and it didnt help. I started to ask myself is it worth it if nothing makes me feel normal. But then i read the dp manual. I was patient it took 3 months to heal. The process was slow, but one day i just realised i havent had dp in a month. I thought i would never heal from it and i am a very pessimistic person, but i healed even tho i didnt believe it. Had an insane panic attack as I was unaware what actually caused the symptoms, i thought I went clinically insane out of nowhere as I was convinced the gunmies were CBD. I have been experiencing DR for about 8 months now. I am visiting a therapist and trying to overcome it. I am feeling really bad and some kind of hopeless and i dont know where and how to start.
Hey Teodosi, thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time ❤️ I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍
Hey Shaun, your videos have been very helpful! I have a question to you or to anyone. I have been vaping 5% nicotine disposable vapes for about 2 years and about 2 months after i started I had a very bad panic attack that led to DPDR. I’m just now starting to think what role my nicotine addiction plays into my DPDR. Could it be contributing to it or even causing it? An earlier version of the DP manual that I have doesn’t touch on this.
Don't worry Ronnie, it doesn't matter what caused it, you can always switch DPDR off completely by stopping the anxiety that's causing it 😊 Read this carefully: www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-causes-depersonalization-disorder/ And in my opinion quitting cigarettes / nicotine is not essential for recovery but you should of course consider quitting anyways.
Nah man nicotine can’t do that… you might have had stress from not having it around but to have a panic attack that leads up to that you’d have to have pass stress/trauma building up overtime for that to trigger it.
Hey Shaun I’ve smoked weed for the first time and it gave me a panic attack however I just slept it off and I was fine and stupidly about two weeks later I smoked weed again and after the high wore off I kept getting these existential and philosophical thoughts which gave me the worst anxiety no one felt real and my vision was at all time worst I’ve since been put on medication which has helped the anxiety massively however I’m still getting these existential thoughts and it feels like I’m going crazy and like I’m gonna be questions reality forever etc and because these thoughts are not giving me anxiety anymore it’s making me think that I’m just losing my mind and I’m always gonna be questions reality is what I’m experiencing normal or is it a different condition such as schizophrenia etc
