Man was waiting for this video and it did not disappoint it's amazing your really outdid yourself Casey Simple editing yet amazing content and the noise of these small cars are amazing and also massive shoutouts and huge respects to the President of the VSCDA Alex Rorke he's an absolute legend for doing this
Yeah, you noticed there's no lines marked. Great observations. Now you should realise NO LINES MEANS you MUST follow the middle line and OBEY THE TRACK everywhere around this track. This IMPLIES you DO NOT apex drive on this track. If you do those modern style of driving, you'll get these same problems that casey had during his drive. You WILL break your car and or you WILL run off this track and most likely crash. A white line in the middle of the track tells you when to brake and when to accelerate. No lines means you're obeying the track. You become ONE WITH THE ROAD. YOU USE YOUR peripheral vision NOT your focused vision, to drive this track. When this track says "turn", you turn. When this track says "brake", you brake. You don't ignore this track and drive out to the edge so you can cut the corner. NO!! The white lines AREN'T THERE TO SHOW YOU where the edges are located. You have to learn the tasks the track designer has designed for you to do to complete the complex circuit.
Seeing the old cars, their sounds etc of them is fantastic! Today's modern racing has lost that emotional feel and excitement. The Lotus is just a beautiful car!
@@CaseyPutsch Yeah, the planets did not align for me and it was a crud weekend dealing with car problems (both the Viper and the Audi). Great ending on this video chatting with some of the other vintage racers and having them chat about their cars. Loved it!
That was some of the best footage of a vintage race. I'm about to do my first vintage race with VDCA at Roebling Road next month. I at least get a test day the week before in my car which I've not driven before. I'm pretty sure I'll be hanging out at the back of the race though...for now. Pretty amazing that you could just jump into that car and drive it that well.
Great video Casey! As someone who also edit video from GoPro 360s, you did a magnificent job moving the camera around and capturing all the moments through one view. You really can hear everything and the sound of that gearbox is music to my ears! I sometimes edit videos for Alex and I’ll tell him to get a GoPro 360s next time to capture all the action. Hope to see you at another VSCDA event!
The entire race the only thing I could focus on was how high quality the audio is, being able to distinguish where another car was with my ears was both impressive and pleasurable!
Casey, it was great having you at the event and fun running with you. The video is amazing, really gives a good feel as to what it's like out there. You did an impressive job editing the 360 video, that had to be a ton of work. The sound is awesome, I love the gear whine and sound of all of the cars. The shots in the paddock were really well done too. Hope to see you again and support your work. You are doing good things, getting hands-on experience for the younger generation that I hope will keep our sport strong.
Great car, good clean racing interesting track. Love the sound of the twin cam. The straight cut transmission is quiet , must be set up well. I've never had my Elan on a track. It gives great confidence when driving it in a spirited fashion. Thanks
YES MAN! Video came out awesome! It was so cool meeting you and seeing you drive this track next to my VSCDA friends. Thank you so much for what you do. See you around! (Ps. I guess I’m gonna have to get one of these cameras now, cuz that looks and sounds amazing.)
Beautiful track. Gorgeous Lotus. You wasted no time going right to the front, but the lack of curbing seemed to make hitting apexes a bit of a challenge. Great dice with the Alfa. The NSU was an interesting car. Never seen or heard of that car. Cool video, Casey. One of your best.
@@CaseyPutsch It was fun racing. Having these racing videos once in a while is much appreciated. Glad to see you bringing out the yellow corvette again too.
Awesome video Casey!!! Alex is in my class, and we have some fun battles. Wish I would have know you were in and filming the genius Garage race, as I would have participated :)
Amazing. Just a couple years ago 360 cameras weren't horizon-stabilized, so the view would tilt every time there was any side-G in the turns and was nauseating to watch. Also, really nice edits, very natural, like a cameraman and not a computer was controlling the view-also not easy to get right.
There may be some disagreement here but driving a car 8/10 can be done pretty quick but you have to spend a lot more time with a car to go full 10/10 racing (especially more than one session!) I enjoyed the video!
I have experience in HSR and yes, a fiberglass lotus Elan is quick. The MG can be sneaky fast too, but the Alfa Romeo and a Triumph TR4 are my favorites in that class. They are gorgeous, graceful, and fast. A Datsun 510 will lay it down too.
Wow...the sound! Whining straight cut gears, squealing brakes, grunting when you miss (grind, ouch) a shift and give up a place. It shifts incredibly quickly, almost motorcycle fast.
NO, casey, LOOK AT THE RACE TRACK. THERE'S NO LINES MARKED. You don't do apex driving on a track with no white lines. You're forced into following the middle line everywhere on this track. Only when it's absolutely obvious that the apex is the best line, do you drive according to apex style driving. But for everywhere else you're NOT ALLOWED to do apex style driving. You need to follow the track designer, and STOP YOURSELF from disrespecting the race track. You actually DO the complex tasks required to complete a lap. If the race track requires you to complete a turn that tightens up as you go around it, then YOU DO THAT TASK. YOU DO NOT disobey doing that job and go from apex to apex! You slowed down at the beginning by going out to the edge. Your tires went cold 🥶 when you required them to stay hot. Humans aren't capable of doing 20,000 tasks while driving apex to apex, perfectly, hour after hour. You need to give yourself room on either side of the car cause YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES whilst completing 500,000 tasks. You follow the middle line on a vintage style track. These no lines tracks don't warn the driver what to do. You have to learn the tasks required to navigate the track and you perform those tasks over and over. You're NOT apex driving. You made thousands of mistakes in doing those types of corners around that track. You were so far out of the zones for the tasks AND where YOUR CAR required you to do those tasks, you almost broke the car and you almost crashed it too. Your car required YOU to brake 20 metres earlier than you were braking. You were disobeying all the tasks you were required to perform on that track. You're at the extreme end of that cars performance ability, by acting too late, it MUST break or crash. You have to stop ✋️ what you're doing, apex driving and start to follow the middle line, religiously, and do everything much earlier and MATCH YOURSELF TO THE TRACK. WHEN THE TRACK YELLS YOU TO TURN that's where you turn. You DON'T DISOBEY THE TRACK and drive out to the outside of the track. !!!!! Where is your fundermentals? You warm up on oval tracks before you get on complex circle tracks.

Thank you and I agree completely.
Man what a video, old school style track, no curbs, no gravel, few Armco's and heritage cars. Pure bliss watching this.
It was even better being there! You should come out!

Love that you didn't edit out the miss. Shift! Real life and it shows what gave you the little edge to get rocking around the track!
Nice to see you having fun with another Lotus. Hopefully you can do more with other Lotus in the future, the list is long Exige, Evora, Emira...
Agreed! More to come!

Casey I think you’d be fast in a school bus. Great video. Great cars.
You’re too kind.
Nice racing. Number 62 with tires squealing like it used to do 🏁
Done properly!
I love the sights and sounds of oldschool racing like this. Unfortunately I have a 2010 Mx5 (miata) that I'm modding to do the exact same thing.
What a beautiful Elan! Nice driving too. Even after years of racing motorcycles, I couldn’t imagine racing an open car 😮
Why? It’s safer than riding a bicycle.

I didn’t know that, but I sure experienced it!

Wooow🍾
How much hp did this car have compared to the rest of the grid? Your overtakes looked so simple...
