Bringing ballet to special young dancers

At a workshop by the New York City Ballet, children with disabilities can wear tutus and top hats, while experiencing the joy that dance brings. Lesley Stahl talks with Dr. Joseph Dutkowsky, a specialist in cerebral palsy, and with parents of children sharing movement in a studio with live music and other dancers.

Accessibility and independence and a child's unrestrained need to let us know how they feel music and joy. Why don't we dance more as adults?

Because as adults we feel like we have to put that stuff behind us. My husband is used to going to the grocery store and seeing me doing a bit of dancing if a good song comes on while I’m in the soup aisle. My son? Not so much. When he was about 12 he would make himself scarce! But I don’t think we should ever let the cares of life bind us so tightly that we can’t do a little shuffle now and then!
