The Zombie Fungus should have been #1. But I suppose starting with the weirdest is a good way to get people invested in watching the rest of the video.
The lions mane and hedgehog mushrooms are completely different. People need to do their research before posting these videos. Luckily, they are both very sought after mushrooms, but misinformation like this could kill people.
Ohno, that poor Junebug with that empty body, right out of a horror movie. I did not see a fungus or mycelium, so I think, another organism was very cruel against this sweet insect. Ant those poor ants with a fungus stalk on their heads, what a terrible death. But do not forget, Fungi have a lot more pros then cons, and are indispensable for life on earth.
No, that truly is a fungus. It doesn't necessarily make a "zombie" out of insects, but it does highjack their nervous system and slowly consume the insect from the inside. The mycelium is within the cavity of the insect, and what you see growing out of it is the fruiting body, in the same way you would see a mushroom popping out of the ground. The insect may be "sweet" but we cannot place moral value on nature- it defies it every time. The fungus takes over the ant to perpetuate the species, just as all other organisms do. It is a terrible death, I suppose, but in nature, this is a common occurance, and it does us no good to try to ignore it.
You said something about deadly mushrooms in the lions mane section. There are no mushrooms that look like lions mane that are deadly or harmful because only lions mane look like lions mane.
Slime mold is not called "dog vomit" by the majority of people. It is just called Slime Mold or Creeping Slime Mold because it moves around. I wish RUclips narrators would stop trying to make up words or terms to make themselves seem important. Please just use the right names for things and stop being such narcissists.
I literally searched "dog vomit slime mold" and it resulted in the same exact thing shown in the video, so if google agrees that it is the actual name then people would actually call it that because it's the nickname it was given, I searched "creeping slime mold" and it only showed random slime molds that weren't the ones in the video, your brain in terms of IQ is dog vomit to say the least, instead of getting your source from your local town or whatever it was, do some research and also its scientific name is "Fuligo Septica", so I hope you learned something from my statements and research everything before you speak something.
I know Lion's Mane mushroom and Hedgehog as 2 separate mushrooms. Where I live, the hedgehog is a creamy color and looks similar to chanterelles from the top. You see the spikes when you flip it over....and they're very tasty. Prefer them to chanterelles
I like all three of the above. I think dude was referring to the Lion's Mane scientific name _Hericium erinaceus_ which literally translates to "Hedgehog hedgehog". I wanna try making vegan fish and chips with fried sliced Lion's Mane. It tastes a great deal like whitefish.
So the zombie fungus (1st one) is part parasite, part imperius curse from Harry Potter’s world. No doubt Prof Sprout has some choice specimens. Very educational video, thanks!

Bleeding tooth fungus has a red liquid that attracts birds (birds focus on the red color because it's the indication of a mature fruit), and they carry spores with them.
I have found many 'Bleeding Tooth' fungi in my many years of mushroom hunting. We always called those Peck's Hydnum in Montana. When the humidity is right, they ooze that red liquid that smells really sweet, but weird at the same time. I was never tempted to munch on one, even as a child, when we would go mushroom hunting as a family. If we had a really wet year in the Rocky Mountains, those would be out in abundance. Otherwise, one rarely saw them. Great video. Fungi are so cool!
@ClarksonWave To be perfectly honest, I would do about anything do get my hands on those healing products. That is really cool and I am happy for you! Those psychedelic experiences are some of the most healing for the human brain and psyche, and should be in use much more by everyone, imho. I would have no idea where to find those healing fungi except to travel down south and hunt for them myself or begin my own grow operation for those lovely blue staining Psilocybe. I don't believe they grow anywhere near me, and I would have to find someone like you have done, most likely. @ClarksonWave Cool and thank you, but wahhhhh because I don't have a cell phone, so I don't think it will work for me with a landline. Oh well. Thank you anyway.
@ClarksonWave The only thing I currently have is my desktop w/ Windows, and I don't think Telegram will work on my PC. I did try, but you seem to have to have a cell phone for it to work. My partner has a cell phone but he is at work, so I will need to wait till he gets home, I guess. Maybe we will get it figured out whenever he gets home! Thank you so much though, you are very kind! I love that those are working for you and helping you out. Psilocybe are such a great experience, and really need to be used more often than they currently are! I actually suffer from pretty severe PTSD, and I know from experience that Psilocybe are probably the best solution and remedy. Thanks again and take care. I believe it can infect us though, causing terrible illness. N West Ontario, near Lake Of The Woods, has a lot of it. Dogs are often infected, + people have been too, including having it break out through their head on at least 1 occasion. Google it. It comes from infected earth in damp places.

Where there is a will, there is a way 😅 I'm just saying cuz I have no clue myself. The only fungus I know how to grow are the kinds that make you see kaleidoscopic patterns on the wall 😂😂
They're not actually that delicate. You can grow some types of mushrooms at home, especially the ones that are saprotrophic. They grow on and consume dead wood. You can buy "fruiting blocks" online and grow your own mushrooms. Some other mushrooms are mycorrhizal, meaning they grow in association/collaboration with specific trees in specific environments. You just can't reproduce those conditions at home in a controlled environment.
Exactly! That is my great fear. There is a fungi that's widespread in N America that does commonly affect dogs and people. You only need to touch soil that is infected. It grows inside you including in the head (brain too?) and does open up the skin, including that of the head. NW Ontario, around Kenora and Lake Of The Woods, has a pretty high amount of it in the soil, so experts recommend caution. I played in that area lots as a kid! I forget the name, but you can Google it. It's terrifying, and dogs are very prone to finding it!
